Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

He could be the final piece of the puzzle. Him, Rooney, Smith and (for atleast the next season) Ole is all we need up front.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Like many,I'm the kind of fan who likes to see a big targetman playing up front.Holding up the ball,knock-downs,selfish in the box,pacy...but I guess its all different now due to this new style we are playing. Its all about speed in counter attack.Javier Saviola is all about speed and I think he is one of the best of all 'small-sized' strikers.Niko Anelka would be a great buy and he is quoted to say that he would never say no to a Man United offer.2 good choices there for us and I'd be glad to have either.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Saviola would be on a free. Why not get both and offer Saha to Bolton?

Getting too many players just unsettles the current players we have. Out of those two, Saviola would be the prefered choice for many reasons. Personally I think it would be better to get Saviola on a free and then leave the rest of the money for the Winter Transfer Window.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Doesn't look like we are getting Anelka - saviola would be brilliant for free. Great business...we would have the football style of the gooners with real cutting edge end product (rooney, ronaldo, saviola)!! next season will be brilliant......also, whats the score with Fabio and Raphael? I thought as they are now 18 they join the squad this year....we will be the brazil of europe!

last thing...final piece of the jigsaw - Fernandon torres!!! no chance though!

No no no no no and no, Its been Uniteds tradition to play attacking/entertaining football for years gone by. I dont want the football style of the gooners, I want the United way :)

I think they are going to sign at the start of the transfer window, but I don't think we will be able to play them because they won't get work permits, so they'll probably be loaned out to Antwerp or back to Brazil.

Little off-topic i know but, could you please explain to me the deal about those work permits for football players in England?

Thx

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Non EU players have to play regulary for their country, and the country has to be in the top70 of the fifa rankings (which is dubious anyway as the fifa ranking are bullshit, friendly wins get you points?!). Its quite an odd situation as you have professionals (the managers) scouting top talent and wanting them to play for the club and then they get denied the chance from some goverment bureaucrat with relatively no knowledge of football because the player doesnt for fill a number of criteria that are dubious to start with anyway.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Maybe a deal to take them to Sporting Lisbon could be worked out rather than to Belgium. I'm sure they'll improve more in the Portuguese league. Brazilians get dual nationality in Portugal, I think.

yeah something like 75% of your countries games, OR there is also the exceptional talent rule, i think mark gonzales got in on this one... Anderson is probably going to have to do the same as he doesnt represent brazil that often, at least not yet :)

is Portugal a memebr of the the EU, if so and he had a Portuguese passport, and thus an EU passport, why would he need a work permit?
Since he would be considered a citizen of the EU.

Anderson is a lot more talented than Mark Gonzalez... But who evaluates that? Some guy in an office? Thats bullshit.

Clubs should get together and force a change on this.

hahaah you just proved your own point! Who says anderson is more talented then gonzalez, some guy on the internet!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Somebody who knows a thing or two about football and seen both players play. Anderson is way better.

oh im not arguing that, i was just elaborating that yeah its stupid that some guy in an office gets to decide who is exceptional and who isnt..

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Saha provide more air presence than Saviola (that's for sure)
but Saviola is more consistent and plays better than Saha in recent years...(ok, Saha was injured and such...)

but him coming will be very interesting...our striking force will be fast...and remember, we still have a bull in Rooney...talk about physical presence...

please tell me when savioloa played in the last few years, this year he has not played at all as far as I can tell(except for the world cup) i think you guys are looking at his PES stats and getting excited :)

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

We need a "hench" striker/target man, one that won't fall over (not dive :P), to help the other striker. Like Nistelrooy, Berbatov, Torres (?), Adriano, Drogba etc.

Like I am worried about Rossi, and say Saviola, being small players.

He did score a few decisive goals at Barça when given the chance.
