Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Eto'o wants to and will go to Liverpool, he won't come to us

according to a few people I've talked to, Huntelaar can be down right lethal, so if we can get him, we'll be reet

not so sure about that fella, surely he must know what a shite playing style lfc have...

plus when did lfc sign a "superstar"...

doesnt happen....

I like the look of Huntelaar, scored a few in europe aswell...

theres another brazillian who plays in holland, cant remember his name, apparently he's shit hot aswell...

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Smith has never ever scored enough goals. FACT.
Its also a fact that he hasnt been given enough games. I doubt many other players would have done as well as him with the same amount of games. He scored quite a few when he first signed for us before being injured and was then forced into midfield when he returned. And just recently he came back from a serious injury, stepped into a major game against Roma where we were behind from the first leg and gave us a great performance.
You lot can say what you want about Smith but I'll always believe we dont really need another striker if we give him enough games in the first team. And you can see this in his work rate.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Yep thats the thing with Smith, no doubt he is good but he is a squad player not a 1st team player IMO.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

You'll all be regretting it when he sits on the bench for another season and then leaves the year after.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I think he can play like Hughes did. Hold the ball up with his strength and play in our fast players to run on. Keep the guy, I say.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

i say we should keep Smith...he has great potential and if he stays healthy, he can be quite lethal off the bench...He might not make it to the starting line-up, but with him coming off the bench, it can bring in some spark!

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I think his, and Rooney's, aggression is also a key factor. It was mentioned elsewhere that with all the flair players we havenow , we could get bullied like Arsenal do. He can certainly keep defences on their toes and tire them out.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I really would hate it if we didn't get a new striker to be honest, because there will become a time when we need someone to stick it in the net (eg. West Ham away last year) and it won't happen because we wont have an out and out goalscorer

rumours around today that we are looking @ Les Sulk aka Nic Anelka...

reports that he'll go for about £8mill....

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

yeh he loves to move a lot...he like a one-night stand( what a bridge burner)

Thats EXACTLY who I was comparing him to in my head. He can be used as another tool to feed our main attacking players. Sometimes when the game gets physical, we need his presence to help out guys like Ronaldo who's a little weaker.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

this is unbelievable
man utd is going to be even stronger next season
nani and anderson are amazing players and i think under the guidance of SAF they will evolve and might even reach ronaldo's level
about anderson i have no doubt he'll be a very important player for man utd in the future
as for nani i'm not so sure... he has the potential to be a fantastic player but i don't if he has the right mentality. hope SAF and Queiroz can make him evolve mentally like the did with ronaldo

congrats on this amazing buys, man utd's fans
i's a shame for the portuguese championship though. but were used to exporting players because we need the money....

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I think our team will be based on a mean defence,a sound midfield and a speedy attack next season. We should have all the right players to play numerous types of formation available.Last season we went from the classic 442 to the attacking 433 towards the last quarter. We tried to adapt to the 433 a couple of seasons back but did not have the right players.

I hope we dont end up like Arsenal next season.Too beautiful game but no end product? I think Sir Alex is making up lost time when he failed to bring in Ronaldinho 3 season ago.We lost that magical player since Eric Cantona and he did try to bring that equation back into the team via Juan Veron. We all know that Veron did not live up to his reputation.Sir Alex brought in Ronaldo then but the portugese was still raw before turning into a world star now. With Nani and Anderson in now,I can see the direction that we are heading to.

Speedy attacking football with lots of room for creativity,a possessive midfield and a no-nonsense defence. This will be the new United we have to brace ourselves for.Its gonna be really interesting next season,no exzegeration needed.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Nani jut scored a cracker against Belgium, the kid looks very good. I do feel though that he'll need a few seasons like Ronaldo did. Awesome prospect.

Yea it was a great goal.

Manchester United are set to beat Arsenal, Liverpool, Bolton, Valencia and Real Madrid to the signing of Barcelona's Argentine striker Javier Saviola, for a cut-price £7m (News of the World).

What do you guys think?

could be a good buy, not sure what is was/is but he seemed to have a few problems at Barca....

Anelka scored a good goal aswell last night, think I'd prefer him over Saviola cos he knows what this league is about...

I like the look of where the team is going, an english core to the team with a good few european/latin attackers...

looks like we're gonna offer Smudge the contract he deserves aswell...

Anderson
Sunday, June 3, 2007

"I like being in the middle behind the striker, but I can play in different systems - it all depends on the coach's plans. But my favourite position is left-back in a 4-4-2 formation, the position of Roberto Carlos, and I've already played there for Brazil. I was considered the best player in the world at Under 17 level and now I want to be the best at Under 20. Who knows what could happen afterwards? I could be the best when I arrive to the senior Brazil team."

Fergie on replacing old with young

"It's never easy breaking up a team, but you have to look at the long term. When you're at a club for 20 years, it's impossible to keep the same team. You have to face the horrible prospect that one or two of your players are going to get too old. I've had this with several players over the years. Putting the current team together has been a process of rebuilding. When we signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, we were thinking about the future, not just the present. There are times when you have to take the hit and be patient when it comes to the younger lads. It doesn't always come off and occasionally you have to wait, because they don't have the consistency, but what you hope they do is bring you hope and a dream. I'm confident now."

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Nani after last night

"I am not Ronaldo, I am prepared just to be Nani. It is a terrific club, a big club and I am very happy to be joining them. I enjoyed the goal and was very happy to score. They (Belgium) made it difficult for us, but we got the win we needed and considering we were missing some players like Ronaldo, we are very happy."

I like this kid already, seems to be more grounded than Anderson, theres quite abit of him on Youtube, I reckon he's a better all rounder than Ronaldo...

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

'Bolton boss Sammy Lee has told his board that he is happy to listen to offers from Manchester United for striker Nicolas Anelka.
United chief executive David Gill met Bolton representatives this week to underline the Premiership champions' interest in the 28-year-old France forward.
Lee has told his chairman Phil Gartside that he would be happy to do a player-plus-cash deal with United. The Bolton boss is interested in striker Alan Smith and midfielder Kieran Richardson.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to find the cash to lure Samuel Eto'o from Barcelona, but is tracking Anelka as a secondary target.'

Sounds good, but then again anything involving Prick-chardson going is good in my eyes....

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I'm looking forward to teams not being able to double up on Ronaldo. They'll have to do it on Nani and Anderson too.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

I'm glad he wants to stay too. There arent many players in the top 4 teams that give more than a 100% every game like he does. Its players like him that lift the crowd when we're down.

Re: Manchester United Thread - Champions 2006/07

Good news Smith is staying and on another topic we're being linked with Saviola from Barca on a free. What do you guys think about that one?
