Manchester United Thread

So you guys really think Carricks worth £18 million? Im not so sure, and the same goes for Hargreaves. I think Hargreaves is a honest hardworking player, but lacks any sort technique to make him worth that sort of money. In the quarters this year Milan's midfield ran rings around him.

Regarding Carrick, I dont really feel he contributed to Man Utd's League win compared to other players. Scholes, Giggs, Rooney and ofcourse Ronaldo were fantastic this season. They made the team what it was. Carrick filled a gap and fitted in quite well. But not £18 million well.

I guess now it seems Sir Alex has a future plan for Hargreaves and Carrick to one day play together in centre midfield. Now that pairing cost £35 million. imo thats seriously overpriced. Id like to hear some comparisons of how much players would cost in similar positions who are better at what these two do.

When you have world stars such as Ronaldo, Scholes, Giggs, Rooney etc people like Carrick or Hargreaves dont belong. I suppose you could argue about balance though.

hmm your true but I think Carrick has justified his price whether to assisting with goals or getting them due to his over-all performace as for hargreaves hard-working player will do well for us I seriously wanted gattuso but after last night he won't leave

P.S. Congrats On Last Night I Wanted Milano To Win Wouldn't be able to stand Liverpool gloating again

I reckon Utd will hijack Spurs' bid for Bale and go for Nani if he hasnt signed a new contract It isnt offically confirmed on Sporting's website

Cheers mate :) Its been an awesome year so far.

So you think Man Utd will permanently switch to 4-5-1 now? Maybe were looking at the usual back four, Giggs left and Ronaldo right, with Scholes, Carrick & Hargreaves in a triangle in the centre of the park. Meaning Rooney as a lone striker.

I hope Im wrong but I cant see how else they could accomodate Hargreaves, and its unlikely either he or Carrick will be benched due to the high price paid.

I hope Sir Alex learned this season that he cant waste Rooney's talent by playing him as a lone striker. That has to change, Man Utd are more effective and more comfortable playing 4-4-2 - Not to mention a joy to watch.

Carrick & Hargreaves are both over priced but if we wim the CL next season who cares? We needed Hragreaves against Milan. Liverpool showed that.

Agree about Bale deal. Especially if Heinze & Silvestre is sold.

If its 6m maybe rising to 10m i will be happy.

About Carrick, I think it was RuneEdge that said a while ago what does the cost of a player mean to Sir Alex ?, If Fergie see's a player, he follows suit and places them into his puzzle. Now imagine United this season without Carrick, I reckon he was the missing ingredient which Fergie (who has been known to risk it a bit in the transfer market) got it spot on, no matter what the price tag. To say the least I would like to see how United would have got on this season without Carrick....

no disrepect to giggsy at all but i see him going for hargreaves since he will get used sparringly fergie has a policy of sparringly using older players stick ronaldo on the left play scholes on right playing off rooney but i cant see carrick being benched for hargreaves

I think it was Alucard said that

I just want to make a point that our midfield wouldnt be as sound, stable and composed without Carrick around.Just because he isnt something special or a fancy player, dosent mean he couldnt justify his price tag.I still couldnt believe people are actually still discussing about Carrick's pricetag. He came in,given Keano's shirt, virtually the first name in the team sheet and became a champion in his very first season. What more can you say? Ouh wait...he boasts 6 goals in 52 games, equalling goals he had during his spells at West Ham AND Spurs.

I think it's way too early to say if Carrick was worth that much or not...i say of course he is not worth that much for a season...but seeing how he still has many seasons to go and at his age, I think that he can turn out to be a great buy in the years to come.

Huge rumours today stating we are ready to bid for Dimitar Berbatov for 27million pounds plus Louis Saha, going to White Hart Lane.Owen Hargreaves reportedly has passed a medical at Old Trafford and will sign for us by tonight.Reason for the delay is due to David Gill, flyin off to the Far East to cancel a game and address the boiling issue of our Far East Tour.

sorry your wrong cantona £1.25mill from leeds worth every single fucking penny roy keane from notts forest £550,000 what a buy

Im talking in reality here, football is full of silly money. If you want to go into econimics we could, but money in football is scandalous compared to real world jobs and problems - thats what im getting at.

And if you want buys worth 'every fucking penny' lets talk Rush from Chester, Daglish from Celtic, Hughes, Hansen, Kennedy, Neal, Thompson, Smith, Hunt, and basically any number of players from the seventies and eighties that were bought for next to nothing from lower league clubs.

Yet again, the mancs ability to banish anything pre premiership comes to the fore!

mate if you ever stop watching the videos of your glory days of bitter blues which were million years ago you would have actually seen the performances which justifies his price tag such as the one against roma for example

"mate", a cripple could've put on a good show against that shower of shite Roma side that you played. :applause:

dude go show your ignorance elsewhere, the same shite roma side absolutley OUTPLAYED the CL champions both times they played this year, Roma also ousted Lyon at Lyon, in a convincing fashion... please please have some fucking knowledge before you open your mouth and say such ridiculous things..

Ah, the classic squabbling that can only happen in a supporters thread.

sorry mate, but i hate when guys call me a yank. Im not a yankee, i was raised in the south, its kind of like calling a scot an Englishman(at least to me anyways)

ouch....p'wned! LOL...sorry, i shouldn't involve myself in any types of fan squabbling...

but i do agree how in recent years, prices for players are just SO off and SO wrong that it's ridiculous. But again, in Economics, it comes by the supply and demand...if a club is willing to pay that much money for a person's services, then that's what they think...no one now is a real bargain anymore. AND seeing how Carrick was in ESPN's soccernet's top 10 buys of the season, i'm sure there's a fair amount of people that agree that with Carrick in the line-up, it made that significance difference of champions to runner-ups!

and no, i am not gonna revolke anything pre premiership because great players played that game and it has great history...we just like to focus on the Prem cause it's a newer style of football, and it's easier to just claim our dominance in recent years.

So is redneck better?

As for the accomodating hargreaves. I think it will be scholes and giggs getting rotated a bit more with carrick pushing more forward. From what ive seen, and remember, carrick was getting better in the latter stages of the season when more upfront, and when scholes wasnt playing. Scholes being banned in both the prem and CL for red cards coincided(sp?) with carrick having his best games. Or atleast thats what it looked like from an outsiders view.

But then with berbatov looking like he might be signing and rooney dropping a bit deeper i think a 4-4-2 will be more common, leaving scholes out more often. What makes this possible is hargreaves being able to run and run and being able to let hargreaves a more attacking role. Good signings if they come off (hargreaves & Berbatov).

are you fucking kidding me? Are you a teacher here in america?
sorry but I always heard cents, centavos, chele not penny. Not a big deal is it and yes I teach mostly to non-english speakers. I`m actually a artichect ,but I never see my family so I took a teaching job to be w/ family. I hear the word "penny" for kit-tops at practise (soccer).Look m8! I love US ,but I live and breathe Spanish

One of our apparent targets,Gareth Bale signed for Tottenham Spurs today for a fee that could rise to 10million pounds. Now whos making all those noise about Carrick's price tag? 10mill for a 17 year old potential that has never played in the Premiership? You gotta be kidding me(trying to sound uncynical)...

So its a complement then? :p

Regarding Craig Gordon why they hell do you need him seems to to be the oblivious reply I see and it makes most sense. I rate him as a very good keeper but to pay that sort of money for a keeper when you have one that's...

EVS - Sod the fact he has made mistakes he is a fantastic keeper, he is no Howard, Bosnic or french dope smoking crack-pot.

Foster - Great young talent that is staring to show his worth and may actually be good enough to hold down a starting place albeit if he has a good season next year when he gets a game.

Kuszczac
- Good keeper could have ten years in him as a solid rotation player.

Now Gordon has the same potential as Foster IMO, I had to listen to certain others say that Craig Gordon has been one of the top four keepers in Britain over recent years and I do agree he is a good keeper with much potential but this season I have seen more mistakes from him that previous seasons. If anyone where to buy him Id give it another year to see what he is like.
