Manchester United Thread

The title is our bread & butter - it's what all the fans want to win. The CL is just the icing on a very tasty cake! You need luck to win it. Luck doesn't win the title, consistency does. Woohoo!

Exactly mate. The CL involve's quality and little bits of luck here and there. we got that this season and thats the difference.

Woohoo! :)

Manchester United chief executive David Gill admits that manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be given money to strengthen over the summer.

The Red Devils have just wrapped up a 10th Premier League title, but realise that they must continue to improve if they are retain the edge over their rivals.

United embarked a major spending spree last summer bringing in Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Carlos Tevez, and will be keen to bring in quality reinforcements once again should the right players become available.

Chief executive Gill has promised that the board will back their manager in the transfer market and fully expects Ferguson to get the chequebook out.

:) Great news, Lahm is one thats been talked about lately. yet SAF came out and said Gaz will start next season as our no.1 RB so i dunno. We might get a striker depending on Manucho, will be looking to lessen the burden on Cristiano's shoulders for goalscoring yet i can see him being up their next season as one of the top goal scorers, and maybe a goalkeeper? who knows last seasons signings where totally unexpected so you dunno who were gonna bring in.

I think we're ok with the RB situation as Hargreaves, Neville and Brown can all play there. Lahm would be a pointless signing in my opinion.

I'd like to see cover for Evra and a new striker. That's it - we don't need to buy more than that.

Hope to see those two Brazilian full backs next season maybe they could be cover for both sides?

Completly agree ,anyway guys, well done for the title, you deserve it ,you have played some great football this year, best defence ,best attack, well done:applause::applause::applause:

I would just like to say

Cheers everyone... :beer::DRUNK::DD ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Congrats Man utd. Now i don't think that you lads actually won the title, i mean it was your's anyways just nobody could took it :D

I felt sorry for Pique as all the medals were handed out. He didn't get one. If he hadn't fucked up against Bolton, he would have played more I think.

Not sure where we need to strengthen really. We seem to have cover everywhere. Manucho looks good to replace Saha and we have Welbeck as cover for him.

Yeah, I agree and fear Pique might be on his way out. It's a pity, but he must think he's good enough to start somewhere, so will have to look elsewhere. I'm still surprised he didn't get more look ins this season. Perhaps one more year, but unless he steps up, he's not even first choice backup for the middle two (Silvestre, Brown).

For me this offseason has to be about a striker, and not too much else. I saw Fergie talking about replacing Giggsy, but I think with Park and Nani we have players that can be effective from the left. I also expect Anderson to become more a part of the first team, and hopefully learn a thing or two from the Ginger Prince before he bows out.

What do you guys think of Carrick in a more forward role? A few games this season he started getting up into the last third, and with touch and passing, I think he could be pretty useful. He lacks the confidence at the moment, but with Hargo and Anderson (and Fletcher) all as more defensive, I could see him being the 'playmaker' from a middle 3.

I'd prefer Anderson to play further up field than Carrick.
His acceleration is frightening, but he hasn't been able to use it much. The impression I get from our Porto friends is that he's used to playing there as well.

We could do with another striker, but IMO they need to be pacy & an aerial threat. On the offical United forum people are hoping Rossi comes back, but he's too much like Rooney & Tevez. What I saw of Manucho looked impressive, but until he actually plays in the team/reserves we wont know.

SAF said last week that he's looking to get someone to replace Giggs. That, to me, says he's not sure about Nani. Unless he's planning to use Nani on the right and push Ronaldo up front like in the CL games, with one of Rooney or Tevez.
If we did that, and (were able to) sign Lahm, Evra would be more than capable of playing LW.

I feel a bit sorry for Pique. The problem is that our squad is strong (if you can call that a problem!).
O'Shea is more likely to be put on the bench due to his versatility.
Wes is established at playing RB & CB, so would be picked over him any day.

I can see a few players leaving this summer (praying Kuszczak will be one of them!): Jonny Evans, Chris Eagles, Lee Martin & Keiran Lee all probables.
Then we have the twins coming over (who would prob spend a season in the reserves or on loan), Manucho (if he gets a permit), Campbell coming back from Hull, Possebon & Welbeck impressing in the reserves.

If we do sign anyone, I'd like to see us try for Ashley Young (LW), a backup keeper (if Foster doesn't take the No1 shirt), and maybe a striker who wont mind not being 1st choice (Ashton, Santa Cruz?)

Sorry for the long post!

Dean Ashton would be good I think. He reminds me of Shearer when he was at Southampton.
Don't we need to secure Tevez first?

I thought Tevez is a 2year loan deal...no need to discuss his future atm . That egg is in the basket anyhow ;)

If memory serves, he was signed on a 2 year loan for £10m, and to buy him would cost another £20m.
Seeing as MSI wanted similar for Mascherano, and eventually sold him for £17m, maybe we can wrap up a better deal now before his stock rises after another season with us? (If something hasn't already been sorted)

Anyways Roll on Moscow anyone here actually going to Moscow (ticket or not!)

I am direct flights and hotel all fully booked and hopefully tickets in my hand Thursday when I make the trek over to Manchester for them!, Taking 4 passports with me as every ticket we've purchased is in the person's who wants it name so I've got one in my name, same goes for Father and his 2 friends.....

We signed Tevez on loan for 2 years? I think I overlooked this...Word is out that David Gill is giving Sir Alex the green light to strengthen the squad for next season.By the sound of this, our cheque book seems to be huge.

That will be enough motivation for next season, winning 3 in a row is just unbelievable, extremely difficult to do.:DD

I don't really think we need to change much. Apart from replacing Saha and maybe a backup keeper, and selling some fringe players.

The only problem is that Chelsea will throw money at their squad, and that might tempt us to do the same...which is a shame as it prevents us blooding more youngsters.

Havent we done that before? My signature should recall some sweet memories for you...We won the league back to back after that Treble winning season.

The squad needs strengthening definitely. We won the league without a proper RB and cover for Pat Evra...and as much discussed over this thread for this whole season,we need an out and out striker ala Torres or Berbatov.

Avram Grant is now accusing referees of giving us preferential treatment..

OK, we may have rode our luck a little against Wigan. Chelsea haven't? Malouda's dive against Liverpool wasn't a penalty but they got it...
It's not our fault they threw away more points than us.

It's just sour grapes. Before the last game he was whinging that if we finished level on points there should be a play off because it wouldn't be fair to Chelsea.
Next he'll be complaining that we have Ronaldo & Rooney, compared to whatever fringe players they overspent on...:SHAKE:

Apparently Pique is going Barca, just sorting out terms and so Jonny Evans to Sunderland for £5 million, so it seems we will need to buy cover for Vidic+Rio.

Maybe we're going for a new LB (Lahm?) if that's the case.
Silvestre & Brown would prob be our cover, with Cathcart on standby.

Lahm can play either left or right, so I'd rather we actually played him on the right, and play Evra on the left.

Nev and Brown as cover for Lahm.

SAF has already said Neville will start the new season as our no.1 RB so i doubt we'll get one, also considering we were linked with Boswingwa for a while we may have got him if we wanted one? Rather we see how Manucho goes and if good enough keep him if not go for someone like Santa Cruz or Berba if were willing to spend big.
