Manchester United Thread

We dont need Mascherano now that we have Hargreaves.Chelsea is highly likely be the next destination for Nic Anelka,so he is out.If we really do have the fund ready for Berbatov,I believe we will hear a bid for him in a day or two.

Get Karim Benzema. If you're paying 35 million for someone like Berbatov, get Benzema, who is young, a huge future prospect, and in shit hot form.

Good shout ^^^. I don't think they'll get Berbatov, at least not until summer. He's cup tied in the FA Cup now and Defoe has said Ramos has told him he can leave so I think he's off limits. Benzema would be awesome and he's only 19.. but again, cup tied, this time in the Champions League.

You can't just pick a player you want, throw £30 million at a club and say "I'll have him please" you know!

Its suggestions thats all mate. The Lyon player sems like a go shout as Fergie wont go after Berbatov until th summer.

Erm, spend much lately liverpool? Oh yes, you did and still are. Rather than £30m on a Rooney I guess you suggest £30m on a Benayoun, Kuyt, Crouch and so forth? Or is that different?

Rafa's net spend 60m.

You spent that alone last summer :D

i love this net spend... united had 240 million in turnover, but i guess that had nothing to do with the players sir alex bought.. this was soley made on paul scholes and giggs... :( I wonder what uniteds net spend is with all the money they make off the players they make vs what rafa does with the players he buys then sells...

Sure you can.

compare apples to apples and you will see that you oustpend most if not all european clubs.

lets put it this way. Previous to Torres, our record signing was 14m. Spurs and Tottenham and Everton and Villa and Sunderland could spend more than that in an global economic meltdown.

I didn't say we should buy them but just pointing out that all that money for Berbatov would be a complete waste and we could but 2 very good players for that money. A striker that's just as good as Berbatov plus A.N. Other.

Not many strikers available for transfer are as good as Berbatov.Maybe the scouts are not working hard enough.Maybe we are not interested in some of the available players, like Anelka.

The thing is,we do have the funds but its harder to get players in January and that has been rectified by Sir Alex a lot of times.Having said that,we still got Vidic and Evra this time, last year.

Its all about buy the right player with our club and Rafa Benitez have a lot to learn from Sir Alex about this fact!

I'm not denying that we do spend a lot, we have more profits than anyone else so it makes sense. What I have issue with is the general scouse comparison that United, Chelsea and Tottenham only spend gross, whereas shrewd rafa only spends net. Over the past 3 seasons, Liverpool have spent a shed load of money, plenty enough to be in contention,no matter which way you slice it.

from Sportinglife

'Manchester City's shirt sponsors and manufacturer will have their branding removed from the kit worn in the Munich anniversary derby on February 10 at Old Trafford.

The decision by Thomas Cook.com and Le Coq Sportif came after talks between the companies and the supporters.

Producing a kit that will incorporate a black ribbon of remembrance is just one of the initiatives City have adopted ahead of the match against Manchester United.

Other plans for the joint marking of the 50th anniversary of the tragedy on February 6 are expected to be announced shortly.

City spokesman Paul Tyrrell told the Manchester Evening News: "After discussions with the Official Supporters' Club and the Centenary Supporters' Association both Thomas Cook and Le Coq Sportif offered to remove branding from the shirts.

"Le Coq are happy to produce a unique kit for the occasion."

All 3,000 City fans who get a ticket for the game will receive a letter from manager Sven Goran-Eriksson and skipper Richard Dunne as well as a picture of goalkeeper-turned-journalist Frank Swift, who died in the plane crash.

Eriksson asks all supporters to "uphold the good name of Manchester City and respectfully support the commemorations".

How much has Rafa spent since being at the helm? I have lost count of the players coming and going at Anfield. I'm sure he thinks "He's Spanish, he'll do."

his transfer policy has been terrible...

he hasnt got a clue...

he signs players and never plays them...

sells them...

buys more does the same...

ridiculous...

one of the most overated managers of all time!!

Totally agree. Only ONE player sticks out at being a superb signing and that is Torres (and that wasn't exactly a good find because we all knew that boy could play, it was just a matter of coughing up the cash for him).

Couldn't agree more mate, he is a muppet! The sooner they get shot of him the better (for them!). As for the rest of us well....lets hope he stays on for a good while yet

Haha we have got Newcastle on Saturday and Big Sam has just been sacked. Chelsea's first game under new manager was against us too this season.

Hope we beat them though!

IF we want Berbatov we need to act SOON because that boy would get in the first eleven at ANY club in the world. He was out of this world against Arsenal tonight - his touch, his vision, his passing, his awareness - the guy has it all.

We need to offer £35 million and maybe Saha to get Spurs to sell him!

Woah, he didn't play that well!! His link up play was generally good and he played some brilliant through balls tonight but too often misplaced passes and gave the ball away. Don't get me wrong, he's definitely a very, very good player and of course I'm not just judging him on one game but he's never worth £35m.
