Manchester United Thread

Looks like Sir Alex had just about enough of Louis Saha.Apparently Saha did train with the first team squad for the game against Sheffield Utd but he opted not to play as he is worried about his hamstring.

It must be the frenchman's attitude and not the injury thats been pissing Sir Alex off because Ryan Giggs had his hamstring problem years ago but the Gaffer stood by him.

Looks like it would be little changes come summer.Sir Alex targetted 2 signings. One has got to be Owen Hargreaves and the other could be a striker/forward.

Just heard on Sky Sports News that Vidic, Nev, Evra and Ferdinand all look to be coming back! COME ON!

Gonna need em. We have to assume that Chelsea will win every game until the end of the season, even against us. Hope they won't but it looks likely. Their games look tougher but we have to beat Everton and Man City which might not be easy. I can see us having to put West Ham down on the last day.

Does anyone else kind of feel that Chelsea deserve it if they manage to win what will then be 14 games in a row? I mean that's crazy.

I'm banking on us havnig Rio and Vidic together at the bridge. Saha would be useful too, because I honestly can't see Smith causing Terry and Carvalho any huge problems. I also have this premonitino that Rooney isn't going to last the 90 minutes without being sent off. He's started doing the head down chasing and then fouling thing again when he loses the ball. Thought he'd stopped that...

Boro tomorrow, seems straightforward enough, though you just know that someone on their side is going to have a go at Ronnie, hopefully he'll jump over them, tap the ball off their face in the process then half volley it home. Don't see us getting any penalties regardless!!!

Smith just needs games. If he wasnt injured, I bet he would have formed a great partnership with Rooney. The thing with Smith is that he's not supposed to be someone you look to for goals so all the passing isnt centered around getting the ball to him. With Saha (and Ruud in the past) it was all about feeding him the killer ball to finish. I personally dont like that way of playing cuz then the defenders know exactly who to look out for. Right now, out of Rooney, Smith, Ronaldo, Giggs, Ole, and Scholes, no one is considered a higher priority in terms of who we should be focusing our passes to for the goal. That burden seems to be very evenly spread between those guys but once Saha comes in, all that changes.
I remember someone on MOTD pointing out that our front four can all play in each other's positions which lets us have this very fluid movement that defenders cant pick up. This seems to be one of our biggest strengths. But Saha can only play up front and expect players to give him the ball in good positions.

Coincidence or what? The last time we played you lot at OT, we played Cagliari at home the weekend before. This weekend its Milan - Cagliari.

But this time there will be no coincedence of you lot beating us again. Since we last faced you, we've become a stronger side and unfortunately  you've become a weaker side. No Crespo for you lot this time and thankfully no Roy Carroll for us either. :)
Hopefully we can destroy Middlesbrough's run as being a 'bogey' team for us, like we did to Bolton a few seasons ago. Our injury problems are easing thankfully but I think we'll need Saha in the run-in because of his pace and ability to stretch teams. We haven't been doing that lately unfortunately.

True, but their midfield is still class and thats where this game will be won plus I can see Gattuso keeping little winker quiet.

I wouldn't call someone 6'1'' small. ;) But you're right about their midfield. However, I think their team lack pace as a whole and I can see our team exploiting that weakness. :)

Its played over 2 legs so I'm a lot more confident about this. Unlike the last time we played Milan where we were clearly outclassed, this time around its more like WE are our own worst enemy. On our day we could beat anyone and if we dont do it, we only have ourselves to blame. We'll just get through the first match and set ourselves a target for the 2nd leg where it will matter the most.
I think we showed an example of this when we turn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg into a 8-3 victory. When we know what to do, we could do it if we're in the right frame of mind. If we dont, it'll probably be because we weren't mentally prepared.

I think if you try and play a cautious tactical game at home you'll lose or score draw, if you go out and play like you usually do which is fast paced, in-your-face attack, attack, attack... then you could have a comfortable lead at the San Siro, so which one do you think Ferguson will use?

He'll be cautious. One of the biggest factors last time was Gattuso's deliberate elbow in Giggs face. He got away with it but Giggs missed the game

Wasn't it against Lille? he definitely had his cheek bone broken last year in the CL, and it didn't even get a card...

However, I think their team lack pace as a whole

of course they lack pace.... they're an italian team ;) they don't run, they let the ball run. :)

btw, even if milan is playing each week better than the previous in the last month, man utd is still the fav imo.

nontheless, if i were a man utd fan, i would be worried about having the second match in san siro.

I'm more worried about the Boro game at the moment. We HAVE to win it because I can't see Newcastle doing anything against Chelsea. Praying for a Spurs win against the arse today to keep Bolton interested in 4th and up for it against Chelsea.

All those people that said we've won it a month ago - it would only take a draw today against Boro to put it back in Chelsea's favour as I don't think we'll beat them at Stamford Bridge.

I'd have to agree with you to be honest, they are a ruthless machine, constantly grinding out what they need, and often that is far more effective than playing with flair like we do. I think it just shows the difference when you've got possibly the best keeper in the world back in the net, because Cech trully is amazing. Of course they've got Terry back as well so there you go. None of our big name players ever seem to play well against Chelsea either, so I can't see us getting a result, especially when we always get destroyed at the Bridge nowadays

Thats why winning the next 3 game are essential.

Our goal diffrence is enough that losing to Chelsea & winning the rest is enough.

Also we should still get Gareth Bale in the summer along with Pedersen. Bale can play left midfield as well just like Evra. Pus if SAF is building for the future then hes a good player to start with s well as maybe Micah Richards???

THE THREE STRIPS
If you go to the united store the strips are all labled 2006/07 just like the Blue strip . . . which is definatly going to be changed for next season. Does this mean we're going to get three kit changes this season?

Im only asking so curious because i want to buy the home strip again (in a different size) but i wont bother if the strips going for a new one next season!

Many thanks for anyone who can say whats going on for sure!

well, the home and away will be changed, but I would've thought the away would become the third kit?

anyways, back to the game, good we've got an early goal again

This seasons home and away kit are commemorative ones in remembrance of the Busby Babes. They will be worn this season only.We will get a new set of proper kits to be worn over 2-3 seasons. My friend working at nike saw the home kit already. No pictures for now as nike are very stringent in their product control. He described it as bright fiery red, simple but not contemporary template and it has 'Ferarri' inspired design.

Ferdinand clearly hurt, and conceeding because of it. We're not dominating, but at least boateng and rochemback are on yellows. Rochemback's dive for Schole's yellow was awesome, should play that one back to Gareth (my mouth is bigger than my game) Southgate.

Still we look in trouble, Heinze vs. Yakubu is a big ask, and we'll be missing Ferdinand on tuesday. Sigh.

FT 1-1.

As a liverpool fan im happy as it means chelsea will keep working for the prem and hopefully have less focus on the coming CL games. Bogeyteam strikes again it seems. Have to wait and see what chelsea can do tommorow.

another shithouse referee...get away with a blatent pen...again

Shouldnt the ole goal have stood though? Only saw that, so cant comment on the pen. Dont actually know the rules, for those situations, but the ball is "free" in the air waiting to be kicked (by the goalie) and solsjaer nicks it of him and puts it away. Thats a legal goal isnt?

no. the keeper must be able to strike the ball.

off sportinglife:

90 min: Lee goes down in the penalty area and the Boro players are convinced they have a penalty. The ref is having none of it although it looks a perfectly decent shout as O'Shea took him out without touching the ball. But alas, this is Old Trafford.

thats only to be expected though

can't have referees upsetting slur alex, made me laugh with the united fans booing the ref at the end especially after he'd gifted them a point
