Manchester United Thread

so...Carling Cup comin up the corner...Smith finally getting his start since his injury!!!

should be a nice game to watch...to see all our injured ones bouncing back!

Crewe play good football too so they might all come through unscathed.

I bet the scousers wish we'd played Crewe last week. As they are their feeder club, they could have asked them to kick shit out of us.

Man U have the worst team in Man U history at the moment. They are off to a good start now, but you mark my words: before Christmas they've lost every chance of winning the title. I want them to play PSV in the cL, they'll lose that one for sure.

I wouldnt go as far as saying that! we havent got the worst team in history at the moment at all!

EDIT: to elaborate further. We have some talented players and some fantastic experienced players right now. Ryan Giggs is showing signs of the type of play he used to do 10 years ago! brilliant!. Gary Neville as usual is ever dependable and is playing fantastic. Wes Brown is showing maturity and is producing solid performances at the back. Rio for me has been a bit hit and miss and dodgy you only have to look at Celtic's 1st goal against us to see what I mean about Dodgy, Van Der Sar has been excellent, Patrice Evra really is showing signs of being a very capable replacement for Gabrielle Heinze but Heinze is still a better player. Fletcher played well in a couple of matches this season but still needs to stop some of the pointless passes and going backwards at times. Paul Scholes is still playing as good as he did 10 years ago as well! Cristiano Ronaldo, well besides the Arsenal game he has done superbly to silence his critics and is one of the best talents I have seen in my life, when he is on his game he is on it! Along with Wayne Rooney those 2 are very bright prospects for our future.

Saha is crap we need another decent center forward. Solskjaer is STILL a great player! comes on and scores some good typical Solskjaer goals :) We missed you Ole.

How can you say our team is the worst in United history?

People always talk about the worst United team bla de bla, please. United finished with one of their highest ever point totals in the prem last season. That was a prem that has undeniably increased in quality over the past 10 years, with a young squad, a captain that walked out halfway through the season, a lead goalscorer who could care less and without their playmaker for half the season (that would be Scholes).

People constantly berate O'Shea and Fletcher, but really are they any worse than Butt and P. Neville? I think the past always has rose tinted glasses. Hell, we were completely outplayed in the CL final in 99! I know it's tough seeing a team be successful for so long, and inevitably people like to see them fall, but there's no actual grounding for your claims, and I also hope United end up playing PSV, cause that sounds like pretty smooth sailing to me.

is this post for skock value or you been on the ale??

It's fanciful to suggest Man Yoo's squad is weak. They in fact have an enviable blend of youth and experience at the moment. Accross defence, midfield and attack United have rising stars (Rooney, Ronaldo, Carrick, Kuszczak, Richardson) players approaching their peaks (Rio, Vidic, Saha, Park, Heinze) and experienced heads (Scholes, Giggs, Solskjaer, Van der Sar). Thats the kind of mix you need to challenge for top honours and United, in my opinion at least, are better set to challenge for trophies this season than they were in 05/06.

Perceived promblems arise as United do overspend on players, and when prices are high, people expect. Carrick is the perfect example, a very good player with a superstar transfer fee.

It's a shame Park is out for a while as I think he's the bizniz. How is Rossi getting on at Newcastle? I don't think I've seen him play.

Am curious to hear people's thoughts on Becks being available for £5m in January (lets pretend its true). The way I see it:
Pro's : He's a born United fan, would give his all and has always said he always hope to finish at OT.
He's still marketable, would easily pay for himself with sponsorship
He could teach younger players a lot, his technique is still world class, particularly free kicks
Fergie and he seem to have gotten over their bad days, have made public apologies and what not
And that's not even footballing reasons.
A 31 year old David Beckham is a better RMF than a 33 year old Ole Solskjaer
He is still a master of set pieces (though suddenly we've started scoring from corners, bizarre!)
He has played with almost the whole team before, and knows the system as well as anyone
He would probably be happier not being a starter at United than anywhere else, including starring in the MLS

Cons
Fergie might not be able to swallow sour grapes
He might get hurt and never play

So you can tell which way I lean, I'd love to see him back, if only for 2 years. I also think it would be just another move to show United have class and real respect for their players. Fingers crossed...

I remember the 'boot' season, and Ole playing out on the right. I thought Ole actually did a better job - plus has more pace than DB.

I think you'll have 2 problems with DB.

1) Shocking drop in pace of the last couple of years
2) He still thinks he's a CMF like Zidane, Deco, Hagi et al.
3) His PR team is so sickly sweet, it's diabetic, and would deflect praise from a collective team effort on to his shoulders.

p.s. i can't count!

Hrm, I was unfortunately in the US at that time, and we didn't have FSC back then, so didn't see much of Ole at his peak on the right. If that's true fair enough, I've not been that impressed with him on the right this season. Plus, how hard is it to get these guys some sprinting training ;) I always thought the same about Fletcher and weights, I mean come on how hard can it be to get these guys in the gym!

I would take beckham back like a shot, he is another option for the MF and having someone who loves the club is priceless.

Plus I reckon the club will want him in an ambassador role when he retires.

Don't you guys think its shocking how clubs treat their veteran players, quick to offload them has soon as. Well most clubs anyway.

Fully agree. One of the key reasons I'd like to see Becks is that it would show loyalty to a player who gave so much to his club for so many years.

Then again, the way Ole was kept on displayed that, so I guess United at least have the capacity for it.

I'm quite happy for tonight

up front, with Alan Smith, Fergie is playing Phil Marsh, who used to go to my school, was in my sisters year and was a good mate of hers. Hope he scores

I beleive that aslong as Fergie is at the club there will be no more David Beckham, he is no longer the player he used to be and would be a some what of a liability on the pitch but maybe not off...

Bit of a struggle tonight but got the result in the end, good strikes from Solskjaer and Lee.

Agree, no chance. Esp with C.Ron, Fletcher and Park.

i would LOVE DB back...loved his work ethic and skill...but yeah, doubt that will happen. Especially with C. Ron and Park here. DB is still those business players who doesn't really do stuff that the coach strictly wants and goes out to meet friends and media. A huge reason why SAF and DB didn't get along that well near the end of his spell at Man Utd was because DB would stay up late after games to goto parties of celebrities and such and SAF feels that his mind was off of football. (well, that's like one side)...so a huge reason why as long as SAF is here, there will be no Becks in the line-up again...

plus, can use his set-piece skill and crossing....C. Ron doens't have that in yet...

Phew, what a test that Crewe match proved to be! Watched the whole thing all excited to see the youngsters, but I fear that we're also seeing the problem of farming out almsot our entire reserves team.

Shawcross, Lee, Gray, Barnes... who? I followed the reserves last season and have barely heard of these guys. We seriously missed all the loan players, I mean couldn't we just filed a Royal Antwerp side in this comp ;)?

I know its going to take him a while, but man, Smith looked like he was overwhelmed by a non-premiership side. Reminded me a bit of an ineffectual heskey-esque player, always had his back to goal looking to hold it up, but never actually accomplishing anything. Really hope he's not lost it up front, didn't seem to have any of that killer instinct a striker needs.

Unlike Ole, who was far and away the classiest player on the pitch. He made everything look so easy, can't believe he's 33. Davie Jones was also rock solid, thought he was the pick of the young guns. Richardson continues to baffle me with his inconsistency. A sweet volley followed by a miss, in the 88th minute when he was through on goal wtih a chance to seal a competitve victory...not sure about him.

Brown and Silvestre together proved that each need a world class player next to them otbe any good. Heinze didn't impress me either, though with that weather bet he wishes he was back in Argentina!

Sounds like Fergie isn't going to try that approach again, I'd expect a reserve first team side next time out.

beachryan,I think that was pretty much our reserve first team now.The treble winning bunch has been either sold or loaned out...Besides the first-team players in that team against crewe, the rest are all drafts from the youth sides.I dont think they are up for it yet but the Jones partnership in the middle look solid nonetheless...I know many cant wait for the return of the fledglings next season...I personally expect Johnny Evans,Darron Gibson and Phil Bardsley to make the draft into the first team.

Great pass from carrick to rooneh for the first goal. very well taken second goal form Rooneh.. Vidic again looking unstoppable in defense winning every header. Evra playing great again, Heinze will have to work very hard to get back his place. Hope we come out second half as we started the first. Our passing has been unbelievable at times.

Damn I jinxed Evra. Heinze won't have to fight for his place after all since Evra is now injured and does'nt look good :(

Is our team hitting top form or what!?? Completely brushed aside Bolton with goals.Big Sam has predicted the El Roon outbrake well before this game started and how right he was.Fat Roon got a superbly taken hattrick with a comeback goal from Ronnie.Nemanja Vidic is looking like a bargain even at 7 million with every match.Mickey Carrick shows us what he is bought for, sublime passes for the first and the third goal, infact,he was instrumental for all our goals.Another shutout with another victory.Still on top!!! C'Mon UNITEDDD!!!
