Manchester United Thread

Rooney has been atrocious today, as well as both our full backs. Buttner with a massive tactical/positioning mistake again...

i agree, he sucked, i know your linked with ross barkley but rooney seemed to think he already signed?

You can even have the title! Just please let this happen.

Quick fix

were reigning Champions who have ended up 7th, this same squad with a top manager will have us challenging for honours.

What is SAF's 2nd choice then? How many bosses does he get to pick? The good bit whoever follows next doesn't face Fergie's successful ghost , but Moyes's . I hope Arsenal helps Mutd w/ a few loans next season.

you have to pay 32 mil. to him apparently...wow he is sorted for life if true...

that´s a high price to pay + everything that happend to United...

Giggs mentioned as caretaker... or even long term manager solution..

sweet.

there were news di matteo is still getting paid by chelsea, not to coach any team

life's dolce vita for some managers...

Okay, that number is ludicrous - it'd be no where near that. To start with, that's more than he'd of made over the 6 years - by about double. Further, almost any contract would have certain performance metrics built in.

Finally, does anyone believe it's a conincidence that all this has 'leaked' within hours of it being confirmed he can't make the top four? Could that not be a 'trigger in his contract'?

One thing I'd trust United to be pretty damn good at is writing contracts - that's much more Ed Woodward's specialty than football.

Finally, he can't be sacked today or tomorrow. As a public company, United would have to notify the SEC via a key employee departure filing. So, don't get your hopes up United fans.

City/Liverpool/etc fans - keep cheering. Moyes isn't gone yet.

What I mean by 'quick fix'is surely it would be worth giving him another season than rush out and grab a short term replacement before pursuing say Klopp or Van Gaal?

United have invested heavily in Moyes and staff. His ideas will take time to bear fruit as it would with any manager coming in to put their ways on United's system.

Alex was impossible to replace but sacking the first guy who tries his hand seems like the panic button has been pressed way too early. Is a top four finish so critical next season due to financial issues? (Which are nothing to do with this manager)

I'm not sure any of the current top four teams would take many of the current players in United's squad which is virtually the same as the one that won the league twelve months ago.

I can't dig it out, but I said this time last year when SAF left that it would be in United's best interest to have a 'pariah' - someone who could do the job for 12 months, get the 'following Fergie' out of the system and then we'd get in a true longer term option.

It was always going to be hard to follow SAF. But I'm pretty sure running FM's AI on one of the iPad's he bought would have done a better job than Moyes.

Hopefully we get this done before all the players leave. I still genuinely believe that players like Hernandez, Welbeck, Nani, Smalling and Jones have a future with our club. There have been moments when they've looked well and truly 'good enough'. I'm hoping it was just mismanagement this year, and they'll be given more chances next year.

If we can get a new manager and 3 new players (all first choice, 2x MF and 1x LB) we'll be an entirely different proposition next season. There is nothing wrong with our front line, and this year we've only been able to play 2 actual full backs in less than 50% of matches. That hurts you in the modern game more than people recognise.

@ Jonny - I agree with you in theory, but the football we're playing is simply not good enough to justify sticking with Moyes. For most United fans it's actually not about the results - it's about how utterly awful he has us playing. He's managed to make good footballers look like amateurs. There is no plan, there's no structure and there is no flexibility. The football Moyes had us playing against Everton was literally the worst I've ever seen at this level. No one had any idea what they were doing. Players were in each others positions, there was no defensive line, the midfield had no options - it was shocking.

Finally, in Moyes' 51 matches (hopefully just 51) he started 51 different teams.

Lots of papers reporting that his termination period becomes 12 months if he fails to make the CL. So as it has now become official, Glazers can scrap him with only a 1 year pay off. Makes sense to me.

some players should be sacked, not him.

i know results say different, but imho he is the one of top 3 managers in premier league. results with everton say it all.

Well, if you had to fire the underperforming players under Moyes that'd be:

Rio, Vidic, Giggs, Carrick, Van Persie, Nani, Rafael, Evra, Cleverley, Welbeck, Hernandez and even Fellaini seem to have regressed this year.

De Gea has been wonderful.
