Manchester City Thread

Dunno about a sale (unless there's a buyback clause - something we've done with the Unal, Iheanacho and Mooy transfers) but he wants to go back there on loan, apparently. Didn't really do much in preseason but didn't really get the minutes.

Can see it happening. Southampton are reportedly interested tho

Was never stroking his head hair ;)

Seems game-changing decisions against us this season may just top last season's.
4 in 3 games so far. Walker red, Sterling red, 2nd half disallowed goal at Brighton (it was tight tho so not hugely outraged by that one) and no Ake red when last man.
I know VAR has its kinks atm but at least we'd get more game-changing decisions right. Sick of it atm.

We have VAR in Belgium and i can assure you that it doesn't change that much. Last season the second penalty decision wrong because of VAR.

Sterling red was not a mistake, referee applied the rules correctly, but the rule sucks...oh and you were lucky with the free kick that started it all for your winning goal, that was never a free kick. The Bournemouth player played the ball and had it. On top of that Kompany took the free kick at the wrong place (which is a mistake by the letter of the law, but did not made a difference on the pitch).

BIg teams are Always advantaged (keane should have been sent off against Newcastle too, to give an example of my favourite team).

We could have ended up winning the FA Cup with VAR, not to mention the potential extra pts vs likes of LFC, Spurs. Even in its current state I'd prefer it.

Sterling didn't enter the stands, infact he was further away than the Bournemouth scorer was when he celebrated his goal and didn't get booked, he was yards away. The fans entered the pitch. I could understand a card if he leaned into the stand or jumped on the boarding etc. but he was still on the grass.

It's not a gamechanging decision like a red/pen/goal is but it looked a foul on Otamendi. He took Otamendi's left leg in a scissors motion before touching the ball.

Ball hasn't been touched yet ^
Also the ref had just waved an advantage for us 2 seconds prior after Sterling got taken out, so either way we're still getting the foul.

That picture doesnt prove anything...a picture is inconclusive, imo it looks as if the Bournemouth player just touched the ball and the ball is going away from his leg. I'm far from sure about this, but there is as much reason to conclude that as your conclusion.

The rule is not about leaving the pitch it is about excessive celebrations.
But granted, imo Sterling did not do anything excessive. This is very subjective and that is why it's a bad rule.

There is one element that is overseen by Pep and Man City fans: the safety of the fans. Imagine a litle child being among those fans?

All in all i understand why Pep sin't happy about this.

Edit: it looks as if the red card is no longer relevant for City but more for Arsenal...City want to swap Sterling for Sanchez...if true, this is bad business, short term policy. Swapping a young English player for and older foreigner...not good.

I paused it before he touched the ball :)

Apparently it's Arsenal who want Sterling, rather than City offering him. City would demand money + Sanchez, if Sky are to be believed.
I'd agree on the age part but I don't care about nationality tbh. Only time the identity/nationality of a player would matter to me is in a case like Foden, a local lad.

Good match, but Napoli plays better and more attractive football for a fraction of what City have invested in players.

City should win the EPL for years in a row with the money they invested and they should also dominate the CL with teams like both Spanish Giants, PSG, Bayern and Juventus.

IMO they are still underachieving.

It is often Kevin De Bruyne himself who forces decisions (surely he is the best player in the EPL for a couple of seasons now?).

City also have very Obvious flaws, what on earth was Ottamendi thinking when he fouled Willian in a total harmless place ? How stupid can one be?

Never seen a GK who has better distribution than your GK.

Still think you will end up second and United will win it. Mourinho's pragmatism will prevail.

Napoli are quality but lost their only test this season. Let's see what our doubleheader brings

We're not the only team to spend lots of money. Win it every year? Are Utd and Chelsea being demoted?

Achievements aren't handed out on Oct 1st. We can talk about under/overachieving later in the season.

As I said previously, Pep is making KDB a much better player now. Far more complete player today.

Otamendi has a brainfart in him, no doubt.

Would be sad for football if pragmatism continues to win out in the PL

Hope Napoli can progress through the group. Shakhtar are a good side but Napoli play brilliant football. I'd hope the City hierarchy have had a word with Sarri about one day (hopefully not for quite a while yet!) being Pep's eventual successor. Any other coach would feel like too much of a step down in terms of how a team plays.
I'm pretty sure Napoli will win serie A if they don't get too many injuries.

Pep turning the PL into the SPL lol

Spurs and Arsenal closer to being relegated than top and Utd closer to being 8th.

Either Walker and Ederson are Messi-esque or Pep is actually a pretty good coach afterall...

Utd were embarrassing today. And after the crap Mou has spouted this week to see Herrera throwing himself about like he had a seizure is hilarious. At one point he got clipped by Walker and nearly KO'd himself on the grass flopping about. He's like a little kid you could quite easily punch without feeling bad afterwards. Little scrote

Whether you are a City fan or not, I strongly suggest you watch the Documentary "ALL OR NOTHING". On Amazon Video.
You can start the Prime membership free trial for 30 days which is enough to watch this.
I watched the first 3 episodes yesterday and damn... it helps you understanding many things we miss when we watch a football match. And it really gave me goosebumps.

It makes you wonder 'why the hell didn't I pursue my dream of becoming a football player?'.

Just finished the whole season. Great show.

I'm wondering who's this guy with a blurred face during Yaya Toure's speech in the changing room. My guess is : Riyad Mahrez, they had a deal with him and invited him to the celebrations then they blurred his face to not piss off Leicester.

I’m excited for tonight’s match. City vs Wolves should be pretty interesting.

Your predictions?! :)
Wolves have just beaten Liverpool('s reserves) in the cup, but I don't think City will be a match for them this time (I know Wolves have previously beaten them, but it was a one-off).

If City steamroller them - especially after Liverpool only scraping past Brighton thanks to a penalty - then... Liverpool will be watching, and I can see this being the beginning of the end for them...

...so I'm really hoping I'm wrong and Wolves can get something from the game tonight!

How is that a freaking penalty?! This match is played in England!! Gimme a break. Don’t get it a 100%!
Anyway. Guess this match is done now. But you never know. It’s the BPL!

A draw would have been toooooo nice. ^^

Haha Man City.

About time either them or PSG went down for financial fair play.

Btw what is financial fair play? I cant understand it. Is the team's transfer and salary budget restricted or restricted in correlation of...what team worth on the stock market or how do they calculate it for each team? Or a new investor couldnt come and land money to buy players? I really dont get it what are the rules here.

Great article. As is the follow up.

A super league will happen and it's the closest there is to a solution. My hope would be that one is created and then collapses. Is the interest really that sustainable? I'm bored as fuck of the elite vs elite in the Champions League as it is.

There's lots of football things UEFA could do to help as well but they aren't interested because it's all about money to them as well. Things like making the European tournaments a strict no seeds knockout right from the start as it used to be. Get knocked out in the first round? Tough shit. Now you won't have to complain about playing too many games.

That'd be beautiful.

Any opportunity for this socialist to stick the boot into Thatcher and capitalism: the decision in the early 80s to relax rules protecting clubs from big business set the tone for this. Football clubs are huge community and social assets and they've been hijacked without that local support being given any thought. Now it's beyond legislation and the only people who can drive change are the little guys, by abandoning the game they created, sustained and loved before the mess was made beyond their control.
