Congratulations to Messi for winning the Ballon d'Or for the 7th time.

Lionel Messi has won the award a record seven times (six while playing for Barcelona, and one with Paris Saint-Germain), followed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won five (one with Manchester United and four with Real Madrid). Three players have won the award three times each: Johan Cruyff of Ajax and Barcelona, Michel Platini of Juventus, and Marco van Basten of Milan. With seven awards each, Dutch, German, Argentine and Portuguese players have won the most Ballons d'Or. Players from Germany (1972, 1981) and the Netherlands (1988) were the only to take all three top spots in one year, with German (1972) and especially Italian clubs (1988–1990) achieving the same feat, including two years solely made up of AC Milan players (1988, 1989), a unique record until Spanish clubs experienced an unforeseen dominance (2009–2012, 2015, 2016) and Barcelona (2010) became the second club with three top players. Two Spanish clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid, also lead the ranking for employing the most winners, with twelve and eleven wins.

being a winner is not easy and this is the seventh time for messi and i admit that he is a GOAT🐐🐐.maybe this will be his last Ballon d'Or. but who knows he can still be consistent at his new club. I will always support him wherever he is.

Is winning with your national team that big a deal? There seems to be a general (?) agreement that international football is not as good as club football. I'm very happy for Messi that he won something with Argentina ( love Argentinian football), but that seems to be the decisive factor and to me that is weird.

To be honest i can't be arsed too much about individual awards in a team sport. I concede that CR7 is a great player, but i can't stand his individualistic behavior which could well be influenced by those individual awards. If you want to be the best in the world, go and play tennis or another individual sport. But i can appreciate that most people will have another opinion about this.

I have the same feeling towards the team(s) of the season at the end of a league or a cup competition. The team of the league is the one that won it and consists of more than 11 players.... The team of last year's EPL? Manchester City's squad. The team of the Euro's? Italy.

And then there are the settlements. After the Nations League Courtois (rightly so) complained that there are too much matches and that football is toom uch about money. Now he isn't on the short list among the 10 best GK's in the world. That is ridiculous.

It's been a bad day overall, but not for this of course.

This is bull$*!t though. It should've gone to Lewandowski in my opinion.

I mean, seeing that last year (which was Lewandowski's year, hands down) it got canceled... It should've really taken into account the last two years this time around.

all of them did not get a trophy for their respective national team except jorginho.
Not that Cristiano Ronaldo wins something with his national team year in year out, yet he's been awarded like... 5 of these?
And even then, if you really want to consider the trophies won... Jorginho won something with his national team and the Champions League, so he deserved it more than Messi in my opinion.

It should've been...
  • Lewandowski
  • Jorginho
  • Messi
In my opinion.

Depends on what national win you get. If it's World Cup, it's really a big deal. But Copa America is even less competitive than Euro, so I agree with you:
  • This can't be a deciding factor
  • Even if it is, Jorginho should get the award instead (and he got Championship as well)

Exactly! This is a team sport so I don't know how do they decide who is best. Every player has his own role and I don't think a defender is less important than a forward.

On the other hand, the award is voted by people who know and understand very well about soccer, BUT this knowledge alone is definitely not enough. You also need to know the players as well, in order to have good comparison and accurate vote. To know them well, you need to see their performance on the field by yourself. However I'm very sure that none of the voter actually watched every single match of every single nominee in the list. They only watched whomever they like, and know about the rest of players via News, Social Media, etc.. So this voting is already biased at the beginning.

To me, this award means who has more fan than the rest, not really about who is the best

Messi is just an average player.

The best by a large margin when his team has the ball.
Probably the worst I have seen when his team doesn't have the ball.

I don't like the message he sends to his teammates and to all the youngsters that are watching him, when he should be remotely helping his teammates to defend and he is barely walking instead.

Certainly doesn't deserve the ballon d'or this year.

messi is not a defender mate.

Not saying Messi doesn't deserve this ,all I'm saying is this has been a boring price since mid 90s where they started to differentiate leagues, 25 goals in the premiership is worth much more than 25 in the BL for instance.
Boring price IMO

This trophy has more or less gone down the drain to me since the Ronaldo-Messi rivalry started and they basically split the win ever since. Not saying either most of those aren't deserved but it's hard to feel any hype for something so predictable and at this point it's basically a career award or something anyway. I maybe will feel interest for it again when it will move over both.

Messi's good. But the past 2 years that trophy belong to Lewandowski. If he wasn't injured in last year UCL bayern probably won another UCL.

I don't understand why people would like to know who the best football player in the world is, since it's all about teams. Perhaps there is a player in Outer Mongolia or Papoua New Guinea who is much better than Messi. That is a nice and comforting thought, come to think of it.

This is obsession is only good for the players agents and they already have too much influence and power...

Ronaldo thinks the same, Messi did not deserved golden ball this year

Probably deleted account or something. There is link for article: https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/12/01/cristiano-ronaldo-factos/
Yeah nevermind about that, i could paste the link on google it says "329k Followers, 56 Following, 6433 Posts".

Tbf, that tells anyone how competitive he is, he's like what ? 37 in 3 months and still hungry like he was 10 years ago. Some players of his age already retired but ronaldo still playing at top level and face the hardest season in his career. Just take a look at United + possibly out of World Cup.

Could you imagine if he win something with United + Making the world cup knock out next year at 37 of age ?

The Ballon d'Or is like the Grammys, or the Oscars, I stopped caring like in 1997.

Right now I just remember it when I have to press next in my Master Leagues.

Everything in Ralf Rangnick hands, he obviously can help Man Utd, because there are many good players with whom he can work.
