Gran Turismo 5

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ok Bingham I had a go AFTER wards and did a few races with TC off. Still the same, still doesnt feel right. I was spinning sideways left and right to see how the car responded.. I knew exactly what I was doing.

Yep it was the 1st time in the Video Review, probably too early to do a review but I got a slight improvement over GT4 and not much more from the most important thing of the whole game... thats the Core Gameplay engine.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Fair do's will just leave it at that then.

But what i would say there is certainly stepping out of the car now my memory crap i cant remember on Jap version what was like at C-Class with lower level cars. But what i do remember is this certainly so much more stepping out of the car with Ferrari and bigger cars as drifting you can do was awesome toppled with you have to fight the car.

I need to play more anyway only on low levels really need to get more cash plus glued to Uefa now hehe.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

hehe well hopefully to my credit I am caining GT5 Prologue now in a bid to see if it gets any better. Im hoping its just Class C thats boring and that things liven up when you have 200+ Brake Horse Power cars at your disposal!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ah DJ Doc it not me going round twist it seems they have tweaked the steering compared to Japanese version oh my what they done you could step the car out easier on Jap version. :?

Here a few posts about it

Ah looks like its a tyre thing

Also just plopped a reply you were saying about fighting with the car etc well this guy using the stick and i asked him this.

And got this reply

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6717890&postcount=2471

As it RWD obviously the back goes out more but this is what im saying there certainly fighting with cars in the game RWD cars will obviously be the ones to show it up more.

But saying this on Japanese version i was fighting with even 4WD cars so maybe this is a tyre thing afterall im not means a car expert but no basics well just trying to get to bottom of it as i know ive had stepping and fighting in jap game.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Just saw the CPU perform an excellent overtake on me... then again that Stupid Suzuki Servo sounds like the engine is going to blow up!!

:DD

These cars are bloody awful i have to say its really tedious starting out when you get further so much better.

I really want the F1 car and Ferrari F40 going to take freaking ages.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Well, just started playing on it, and it must be said, anyone who is a skeptic after being disappointed with GT4 needs to play it for a reality check. it's vastly improved, and actually fun to play.

Whether or not the realism is there compared to Forza, I don't know, but I also don't care.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I must list my disappointments on the game although mentioned some i need to go mention all.

* 2 player only can play vs friend now Split screen is big thing for me this was the same for Forza 2 and if its like this in full game i will be extremely annoyed its like going back to dark ages.
* No car selection so you can only race against the cars the game chooses which is based on class of car you are.
* In Arcade AI difficulty selector default is 25 yet you turn it to 100 im in Integra Type R and im racing against GT 40 etc erm another reason why need to be allowed to choose vehicles.
* No online communications and no replays online very poor but this is coming in an update so i have seen we will see.
* AI as stated its far from perfect as you can see in DJ Doc video but i think this is more apparent on high speed ring compared to other tracks. But they do make some amazing overtakes i remember few in Japanese version made me go wow cant say i noticed to much so far but on whole i think they are better then GT4 just this needs loads more attention.
* They need to fix the online update system absolute poor whats it with Sony and online systems lol.

Thats all i can think of at this time might be more in future.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Oh and Dave, the graphics are clearly as good as the screenshots. Plus the fact, the AI don't try and swerve out of your way on Forza either.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

On Forza 1 they gave you much MORE of a hard time than on Forza 2.. Granted. Im not suggesting they should swerve out of my way, in fact im saying they NEED to actually try and defend their positions a lot better, Then having said that the CPU pulled off a BRILLIANT overtake on me!!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Thanks for the video DJDaveDoc4 or whatever your name is, very entertaining. Glad you enjoyed the Big Mac. You should release a vid for all the new games.

I've only had a small handful of races myself and agree that there's something fundamentally not right (simplistic) with the physics. The replays show car roll, etc, but there's no sense of it whilst you're actually racing. I get no sense of a complex tyre-physcis model. You don't need a FF wheel to feel good tyre physics. I've played some great PC sims that are now years old, with a gamepad, and they have great tyre physics and you really get a sense of rubber on tarmac as well as all the weight shifting of the car in acceleration/braking/cornering, etc. GT5 lacks all this basic stuff...it feels arcade, if not quite as arcadey as the likes of Ridge Racer.

That said, it's pretty much exactly what I expected and I'll probably get a few hours of modest fun out of it.

One of my favourite moments so far is when on the London track, I skidded out of a corner and crashed into the barrier and a few guys in the crowd right behind the barrier raised their hands to their face in shock in an instictive protective action. Very amusing....I'll do this often.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Well maybe that's it. In the first race, in a game that is known for being easy to get into for every one historically. I wouldn't have expected them to defend their positions at all. It'll be right at the bottom of the difficulty curve in the game. If they don't try a little harder in the hardest race in the whole game, then it is poor, but you get my meaning.

Having barely played much of Forza 2, about five races, I can't really comment too much on the AI, because i just selected a fast car and breezed past them all, but do they actually try and defend themselves? (would it be cheeky to ask for a little video maybe?)

Going onto the rigidity thing in the video, that view you used, from behind the car. Has always been dodgy as far as the handling goes. For whatever reason it's far different to play with compared to the other views, always has been.

Gotta say by the way, you're reviewing style reminded me of Charlie Brooker, I did laugh quite a bit throughout. Top stuff mate.

EDIT - Just let a friend do the third race, the target time thing within ten minutes, It's nice to see the Cappuccino oversteering round the turns and sliding around. And the AI cars actively swerving to go past.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Mat, when I get time ill shoot you a Forza 2 Video to show how the AI Defends itself :) Thanks for the good comments guys, I do intend to do more Video Reviews in the future, BUT ill do them having played the game for some time rather than in the 1st instance.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Ok time for me to elaborate some more. Ive been caining this game (playing this a lot to people who dont understand me at the best of times ;)) all night now, Im up to class B and my Integra is being driven with no Assists whatsoever... its becoming fun at LAST!! The car is starting to feel a bit like a real car. The AI is funny though... ive seen the same crash, happen at the same corner involving the same 2 cars about 6 times!! the AI appears to be scripted because it repeats EXACTLY the SAME way each time!! I benefit from it and always end up going past them!

The gameplay equivalent of vomit.

I've seen this in arcade racing games before, same crash, same cars, same corner, same script....complete and utter vomit!!

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

AI can be shocking i will say i have noticed myself that go off track quite abit but then again they can actually be superb so it kind of mixed bag.

Dont see where all arcade business is coming from though as explained in my post above i think its lower class mixed with the set of tyres.

Has anyone actually got any top class cars yet i havnt played tonight finishing co op Army of Two off with friend.

How comes it got better have you got used to game more would you say or is it some kind of restriction been lifted. ?

Really want to get to bottom of this something really iffy here.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

It feels like a restriction has sorta been lifted yeah, I can almost drive the car how I want to and how it should be done ;) However it still lacks that "feeling" you should get when driving a car.

Hmm how strange wonder what in place there some kind of help you along for the first section.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

I'm in Class A now, no assists, Pro physics simulation, the car handling is getting better and better.....The In car view is fucking intense, especially when drifting sideways at 180mph.....

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Any list of possible cars present in the game?

Damm... I would love if this game could have some european classic hothatch cars such as Citroen AX Sport, Fiat Uno Turbo IE, Peugeot 205 GTI, Peugeot 405 Mi16, Austin Mini GT, Volkswagen Golf GTI mk1, Volkswagen Polo G40, Volkswagen Corrado G60 and many others... :)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

205 was the car of the people at every country at the mid's of 80's, still a lovely car!

I also expect more turbo diesel cars in the game. It's getting very popular around Europe due to expensive price of petrol (gaz).

:)

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

:) in the UK mate Diesel is more expensive than Petrol.... I didnt like the 205 but thats my view. I love the Mini! I used to have a 1990 Mini Mayfair... not keen on the new one thats in GT5...

Re: Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Geez... you're a lucky bastards! :P

Here in Portugal the price of the petrol is very expensive, peharps one of the most expasive of Europe. It's rated as 1.49€/litre and the diesel is rated as 1.20€/litre. :(
