There are approximately 7,000 new indie football games releasing daily at the moment, accelerated through "vibecoding".

More options is great, but I'm not sure about the general quality, originality, depth and/or continued support of most of them.

However, "Football Rewritten" (this may have been mentioned elsewhere but a quick search didn't return anything)...

Listen to what he says about the ball path being dependent on the leg/foot speed possible to achieve when the input is pressed, along with pressure limiting limb movement and therefore changing the contact.

It is shameful, to my mind, that guys like EA are lightyears away from this.

We live in 2026, and every football game still "fakes" every run, kick and outcome.

We have the technology to do incredible things, and yet the companies with the most money churn out gameplay so simplified it's like going back in time.

But "Football Rewritten" is physics-based, as football games should be now.

Is it going to be amazing? To be honest, I don't think one guy with little expertise can do this, but those who DO have the expertise are nowhere to be seen.

It's a start at least, and I thought it's worth talking about (especially as there are plenty of other similarly vibe-coded games with their own threads now, and this one really speaks to me)!

While I agree that true physics based kicking is the ultimate ideal, in practice, this is going to be extremely difficult to implement. Even with “cloud computing” (he doesn’t use AI, he uses autonomous algorithms run on powerful GPUs in the cloud, very different), getting the foot in the correct spot, at the correct velocity, at the correct angle, at the correct time is extremely difficult. A fixed animation is never going to work. The game would have to be trained like a real player, thousands of repetitions of different strikes until they understand based on their intended outcome, how they should strike the ball. It’s possible, don’t get me wrong, but it would require the game to allow the player to invent their own animations which could lead to some bizarre behavior.

To your point of “where is everyone else?” Most of the videos are self-promotional “look what I can do” - it’s nowhere near a fully functional game and to be blunt, not worth your time. Are there any old devs who are using AI to make a game that they know would take a real team years to make, but they can self-direct with their specific knowledge of game development? God I hope so.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this on YouTube. If it would really work it would be something unique and it can change how sport games are developed.

But I guess it would need a really long time or some kind of NASA supercomputer to calculate it faster. And even if it's calculated "properly" then who knows, maybe computer will find some more efficient way how to kick the ball than we all are doing so it would not be really realistic :DD:DD
