Football Manager Series

[...] why should they put time in if everyone uses the newgan faces anyway?
Serious question, do you really think 50% of players (let alone "everyone") uses Newgan faces (the AI generated faces I mentioned above)? Or any mods, for that matter? I really don't think so.

Obviously there's a huge community online and, even more obviously, mods make the game 100x better. In-fact, as I've said before, without your stadium mods I honestly would have just gone straight back to FM24 because of how much of a step backwards FM26 was overall.

But the entire userbase doesn't have the technical knowledge we have (in-fact, the players I know outside of Evo-Web ask me to set up mods for them because they wouldn't know how to) - plus, the game is on many platforms, some of which make modding incredibly difficult (if not impossible).

Besides that - I think it's a very dangerous precedent to say "don't worry about working on that part of the game devs, modders will do it for you". I mean, the match engine can be modded now - practically everything can be... Why buy the game ever again if the dev's work isn't good?

And more to my original point, why even have a graphics department? I just don't see what they're doing. It would be better IMO for SI to not talk about the graphics at all if this is the level of advancement we're getting (i.e. none).

Obviously, graphics are the least important thing, but I'm just wondering as a consumer - how does this lack of evolution happen when you have a team dedicated to it?

Maybe I mis-phrased it slightly, apologies English isn't my first language, what I hope to explain now is that it probably is a combination of priorities and what needed to be fixed. So on that list I would imagine that the newgen looks as well as the graphics are lower compared to fixing the UI, and we don't know the staffing at the studio, I don't know how many people they have for graphics/visuals, but I can understand prioritizing the UI for this version, yet they will have to showcase the graphical side too.

I think they need to do better, especially given what myself and a few others have achieved this year, but therein lies a bit of a trap as I've been doing 80-100 hour weeks for the past year, and I don't have any management layers, licenses or whatever to play around, and they probably do - but that is a guess. I am willing for 27 to give them a bit of a side pass, but for 28 I expect there to be made significant progress.

Apologies, your English is so good I had no idea it wasn't your first language - I've always assumed you were English from your posts!

Realistically, the graphics are the least important part of the game, and in-fact (being really honest) I know I'll buy it every year no matter what. I would estimate I've spent 10,000 hours playing Sports Interactive games, and I sort of think I owe them a purchase every year even if I end up playing the previous year's game instead.

But ten years of terrible 3D faces I just don't get. For me personally, it's great to use Newgan faces, but it just makes me wonder about the studio generally. Some of their recent decision-making just scares me a bit, because without FM I won't have any modern football game left to play! Fingers crossed there's a bigger focus on graphics generally next year.

This is a much better version of the previous deep dive.

Also, this guy should be given a job at SI. I don't know that I'll ever love a management game more than I enjoyed FM24 with his skin that replaced numbered attributes with real-world-style scout reports. I really hope skins are fully supported again in 27 but I doubt it.

Woo, what's this scout reports thing? When I played CM/FM, I'd only sign players I knew IRL, or that my scout found himself without me directing him to a specific place cos I knew that's where a future star/wonderkid was. Plus, masked all stats etc.

I don't feel any victory is truly earned unless I only use my own knowledge, tactics and transfers. So, this scout report thing sounds right up my alley!

On that, which CM/FM do you guys consider the best ever and why? I played CM from 3 and FM all the way to like 21, then it got too much like a job. For me CM00/01, 01/02 and FM 14-16 are the ones I have the fondest memories of and are not ruined with boring admin/news/social nonsense.

Does the 2D video as a feature needs to be published as video announcing it by SI ? It's been on the game since the beginning, does not deserve a video to be announced

Well with any luck the BETA should come out next Monday for people who pre-purchase, unless they aren't doing the BETA thing this year.
Then we can all get refunds on Tuesday.

Although is worrying that the game isn't even available to purchase yet or they just haven't decided the price.
As charging £44.99 for it on Steam could be a very hard pill to swallow.

I see where you're coming from but I'm amazed games aren't more expensive given the cost of living increases over the last 20 years. I would pay that.

Except, it's (hopefully) on Game Pass, so I haven't had to buy it for a little while!

For anyone interested in FM Touch:

I would happily pay £40 for FM.
However after how bad FM26 was I don't think I would be happy paying another £40 for a game that bad.
