Honestly, there is no doubt these guys are all world-class footballers, BUT I think there were many other pros out there from other leagues and continents which would deserve it more to be listed here.

you know what's mind boggling? the fact that Iniesta is better than Messi in Europe and he's not when it comes to the rest of the world.
 
I think the voters voted for what they feel for the players, or for their Names in GENERAL, not for what they did in 2012 ..
for example there's a massive hype around Messi, so whatever he does, they will consider him best player ..
in 2009, they said he won it because helped his team with 6 titles ..
in 2010, he only won 1 title, besides Sneijder won 5 titles and he was World Cup Finalist and top scorer ..
but, they said Messi is more individually talented and effective .. so screw titles ..
in 2011, Cristiano broke individual records, and was effective .. so what? screw individual effectiveness .. let's give it to Messi, he won more collective titles ..
in 2012, let's throw titles again from the window, Messi scored 91 goals .. so, who the hell are Iniesta, Casillas and Xavi winners of Euro 2012, who the hell is Ronaldo, winner of La Liga ..

let me tell you one thing : since 2009, I was sure Messi will win it maybe 5 or 6 years in a row whatever he does .. they decided that ..

Can't argue with the Forwards.

Alonso could be argued with in midfield.

The GK isn't exactly controversial.

The defense is awful tho

I'd put in Jordi Alba and a couple other names ahead of Marcelo.

Other than that, I don't see much wrong with that starting 11.
 
Yaya Touré instead of Xabi Alonso all day long my friend.

No Van Persie on that list was very strange. He's just as prolific as Falcão. With the attack it would be difficult though. But I can't see how Pique or Sergio Ramos are better than Kompany for instance.

Guys like Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and C. Ronaldo should definitely be in any list, but the rest seems extremely biased towards 'El Classico'.
 
As I wrote in the Barcelona thread:

Definitely Pique (though he was inmense in the Euro), Marcelo (Lahm and Alba were much better) and Alves (ironically, this was his worse season ever) shouldn't be on that list under any circumstance. And Pirlo or Toure should be instead of Xabi Alonso; Cech Neuer or Buffon instead of Casillas and Falcao and Van Persie could perfectly share the last spot.

Speaking of something Barca related... how inconsistent is Bojan!?

He's mediocre when he starts matches... but when he comes on as a sub he's superb!
 
That's Bojan. A solution that works only for the last 20 minutes. It happened at Barça and happened at Roma as well. I doubt he will ever play consistently in any big team in Europe. Too similar to Saviola, without the speed.
 
yeah Milanista, I too always consider Cavani when it's about ranking the top strikers, but for the last year RvP's performance was (imo) slightly better, even though I rate Cavani as the better player in general. I tried to make an 18-man squad there and that's why I unfortunately left him out. and I'll tell you what, I can die if I make it 19! such an important thing...
