FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

Wait what!? So I think I accidentally got what the stretch trend is about. I just needed one more player on the equation?
Lets use the same example I did before then, basically if De Bruyne has the ball, Hazard and maybe Mertens should both give him a pass option at the same time but on opposite sides?
If that's what the trend is about I definitely agree is good.

But the word 'stretch' is just terrible, it makes me think of Cavani going wide open on a wing while the middle action happens. In theory this is a good idea, but most center backs would call a switch to the side back that's set there, that's the whole point of the defensive line, it's zone covering. To me this feels like writers trying to find fancier terms on a simple game.

The angles for passing options are what football is about, but it is quite basic movement compared to NFL/NBA movement, most of these young tactical analysts love these american sports and I still feel they see too much where there is nothing to see. Let me have my simple, but beautiful, sport.

It's all relative bro. Football isn't an equation. There are no formulas. There are concepts and ideas. There's luck (up to a certain point). But it's not like you describe it. I'm sure you know that anyways.

Lots of talking that the referee is the 12 player to brazil, but not lacking in Neymar (who took the Cup) the referee gave us. Sorry for these people ....

Message from Messi to Neymar on his official Facebook account:

This will be Argentina's lineup v.s Belgium, most likely

It's also been rumored that Biglia could take Gago's place, but it's unlikely.

f Messi!

Mesut Özil @MesutOzil1088 3h

Neymar, i am unhappy. get well soon.
Details

and that`s vs their opponent (Tuesday):BOP: Ozil might not perform well on the pitch ,but he`s excelling off it! :SMUG:

Or yellow? Appear to tell someone that Brazil is benefited in this cup is just ridiculous!

Zuniga should have been sent off in the first half, where he already went for a Brazilian knee, let alone for what he did to Neymar.
Don't get me wrong, i hope Neymar gets well soon and he is perhaps the only Brazilian player who really deserves to win this WC. So it is a shame what happened to him.

BUT

On the other hand it is some sort of cruel justice. It was clear from the beginning that Scolari wanted a war instead of a match. He knew damn well that this awfull Brazilian team does not stand a chance against Colombia in a normal game of football. So he started a war, Colombia made the mistake to fall for it (but is it possible to do otherwise), Brazil won somehow but in the end it backfired spectacularly.

I usually defend referees and i know that it is very difficult to referee a match like this, but i also blame the referee. He let Brazil set the tone. He should have given a yellow for the first foul on James where Fernandinho never went for the ball but for pure intimidation.

People will say i'm biased. Yes i am. I thoroughly dislike this team that is a sore for the eyes. But i have no doubt whatever that somehow they will win this WC. It will go in history as one of the most ugliest win ever, but who really cares apart from idiots like me.

Look at Luiz' reaction after his (magnificent) goal. That is not a normal reaction of joy...i'm persuaded that this team is doped. I really dislike the national anthem thing...

Do i blame the players ? Not at all, they are used. They are used as a pretext by a regime of a country that has serious growing pains. If these players win the WC, the millions pf have nots will be over the moon...panem et circenses.

And yes in the end Brazil deserved to win this travesty of a match...as football fan i'm uiterlijk disappointed. Hope Belgium don't have to play this team. I hope for a Brazil-Argentina final. Argentina is good in wars...

I'm sorry for this rant. I have nothing against Brazilian people.

Pretty sure that going into this round, Brazil had committed the most fouls and had spent the most time feigning injury (as per WSJ article) in the tourney.

Joga Bonito it has not been. Saddest part is Neymar was more or less than one exception (as Oscar is in hiding somewher). Scolari has crafted a remarkably un-Brazilian team.

But it's in the semi-finals. So there's that. Bet they somehow beat Germany too.

Zinkgat is supposed to be Zunega...the posts from my I-pad are all like that...hate to post with it.

For this one, the previous and all the future posts like this: i'm sorry...

Great post Gerd. You're spot on about the war assessment but I don't think Zuniga deserve any more spite than most of the other players on the pitch. The intensity and roughness level of this match were borderline from the beginning and it was Brazil that came out guns blazing from the first second. Colombia spent at least 10 minutes before they caught the game standard really. Let's not forget that Fernandinho was involved with 5-6 "yellow card" incidents against James Rodriguez alone and none of them resulted in a card. Quadrado got completely tackled out of the game Mourinho style* by Hulk and Marcelo.

The referee had two choices, either book people early or set the limit high and he did the latter. He made many weird calls during the match, both ways, but in retrospect it must have been a fucking awful match to officiate as well.

Scolari made a huge mistake when he brought a mollycoddle such as Neymar to a straight up men's fight, especially since it was Scolari that initiated it. Besides, after looking at the knee-tackle I am fairly certain that Neymar should start drinking milk frequently as he must have a weakened skeleton. He seems a bit of a glass cannon really. It's a tragedy to lose such a player for the remainder of the cup though, both for Brazil and any football loving person watching it. I can't see who's gonna do anything out of the ordinary on that Brazil team now, I pray Willian is up for the task.

I think it's fair to expect a little better from Brazil in the end. The home of joga bonito shouldn't resort to Brittish lower division strategies to win a football match without repercussions. Most Brazilians I've met has always criticized this style of football and called it "the Argentinian way" or blamed it on other neighboring countries. I guess we're all hypocrites in the end though. Win by any means possible knows no limits, even in Brazil. It's actually a loss for football but so be it.

PS. I also agree with the assessment of this match and the referee by Maradona and James Rodriguez and they also give kudos to Brazil for the achievement as they can't be blamed for the referee's mistakes.

*Mourinho style is basically as nasty as possible until you receive a booking.

WTF Brazil even hired insects to attack James! :P

good post Gerd, that´s exactly Scolari, an obsolete motivator with a poor tactical repertory. The same war bullshit happended with Dunga last WC, it became the rule among brazilian coaches.
I hope Belgium wins and Wilmots gets his revenge in Brazilian soil!

A fun fact, the green giant bug that landed in James arm is a symbol of hope in Brasil.

Yup, this is what I meant with 'Let me have my simple sport'.
These new formula trend is making me feel a bit lost.

gerd you are spot on, but Ernesto Lee you need to watch some better brazilian clubs, there are some young new coaches that all they do is work. There is still hope.

Guessing I wasn't the only one to roll their eyes when Neymar was down.

This is one of the main reasons I can't stand cheats and fakers like Neymar, Suarez etc. Their actions risk the health (and potentially the lives) of players on a football pitch, and not just their own.

WTF????
Are you serious?
What kind of weird logic is this?

At 1st I thought time wasting until they kept carrying him out...I knew his frailness could turn a simple knee to the back to a bad situation.
I wouldn`t throw Neymar into the Suarez`s column, he`s on a league of his own.

I would like to abstain from commenting on last night's match, though I feel for Neymar. It was heartbreaking to see him leave the pitch like that, even for an Argentine.

As for our match, I'm glad Sabella finally got his shit together and placed Biglia and Demichelis on the starting XI where they should be. Let's hope Belgium doesn't park the bus, which might be likely since we suffer against teams who play like that. If this turns out to be a match on both ends, we may have better chances to win.

Di Maria injury, while unfortunate, has taken 5 full minutes of game time. And in the end he walked off. Ref might as well just give Argentina a time out.

2nd time I'm telling to people to "get the fuck up and stop acting you idiot" last night Neymar and today Di Maria I regret it later but way to late I feel guilty

Argentina are sooooo negative. This world cups Spain. Created two attacks in the first half. So boring.

But going to win by doing it, so why not?

I'm must be watching a different game it's football not titties in the air ball. I'm enjoying Messi's happyfeet dribbling. Belgium are playing good ..I think BEL will start getting physical out of frustration.

He s an annoying kid who pulled some shit again today but that charge on him should've seen a straight red. You don't wish that kind of injury upon anyone. Hope he recovers ok.

This is close to being dark black. In Kung Fu you would've been disqualified for that, yet in football Zuniga got away with nothing! He could have paralysed Neymar. Both were extremely lucky that "nothing worse" happened.

I disagree, Ryan. Argentina have been attacking much more than Belgium all along this half, they are crating much more danger in the box. Messi's passes are deadly.

I think you're overreacting!

That's actually a penalty or FK for Argentina. Kompany misses the ball and takes Lavezzi's foot.

Let's not forget that Belgium are late scorers.

EDIT:
Belgium seems thoroughly frustrated by now, understandably but also quite amateurish. They're falling for the oldest trick in the book.
