FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

+2. It really is unfortunate there are often so many reasons to hate (or at least get terribly annoyed with-) professional soccer.

even the 90 minutes is too long to me. very, very few games are really worth to watch for all 90 minutes. highlights ftw!

He's clearly a Football Weekly listener!

...as everyone should be!

Yes, i'm a Football Weekly listener...

I know you are. My comment was intended to offend. I love listening to the pod as well. That's all I was inferring.

It's a nasty situation there as well. I was under the impression that the guy fell and kicked his leg out but it might be a red card situation here as well.

I agree. Watching it live, I thought Dempsey received an elbow to the face and that Boye deserved at least a yellow (even if I initially thought it was an unintentional elbow). However, after watching the replay, Boye's follow through almost seemed as though it was intentional. There is no way that he was knocked off balance enough to throw his leg up in the air like that. I'm not suggesting that Boye went into the challenge hoping to injure Dempsey, rather that if something happened to Dempsey as a result of them both going up for the 50/50 ball then so be it.

That video of Dempsey reminds me when De Rossi decided to snidely elbow McBride in the face, and it barely phased him despite breaking his cheek.

Gotta give Americans this: they're usually tougher than your average footballer.

I'm Always a big USA fan when the World Cup is played...

I think it is that toughness that makes us unique. Also, the American public is always so quick to deride people who fall to ground easily. Soccer is extremely frustrating to them because while they enjoy moments like the one Messi created today, they don't understand the simulation that often accompanies the game. They ask, "Why would anyone want to lay on the ground, roll around, and feign injury?" To your average American, that is seen as a sign of weakness -- not cunning or even part of the game. In that regard, we are naive when it comes to participating in qualifying matches and international tournaments that require making the referee's job a little more difficult because we expect the competition to be honest and fair. I am not suggesting that the teams we play are the opposite, rather that we need to be a little more street smart when it comes to how we manage matches. We often only have one gear and do not know how to waste time, which is reflective of our culture. However, that aspect of our game is beginning to develop as more and more of our players are either playing abroad or are coming up through professional academy systems and bypassing college soccer altogether.

+1

Di María took about 1 minute to leave the pitch, the ref should've added one more...
Worst thing is that he didn't give them the penalty when Zabaleta charged against Dejagah.

Looked to me like Dejagah assaulted Zabaleta from behind just as he was about to kick the ball. I won't say it's never a penalty in a million years but it wasn't undisputable.

Not really that surprising. Playing four CBs in defence against a quick, agile and physically demanding Ghana forward line was always going to be caught out.

My bad luck continues with the world cup shirts I bought on Tuseday!

England - Out
Spain - Out
Japan - Need to win next match and Côte d'Ivoire loose
Italy - Need to win next match
Germany - Currently Loosing

Ghana is much, much better than everyone thinks they are...

Disagree. It's been called the group of death for some reason.

Germany tactical plan couldn't be explore by Portugal. We were out of the game to early. But they fullbacks don't give any kind of depth. Plus they lack intensity when defending fast wingers. Giving to much space. The lack of a true number 9, make them lack their traditional vertical game. They control the game, dominate possession on the middle, but with Özil out of confidence, they lack that last pass, that deadly trough ball at the right time. Too predictable.

They still have amazing players and are still very effective in dead ball situation.

Let's how they adapt or change along the tournament.

I agree with you. I was referring to the "Evo-Web Predicts" thread. I think only one person had Ghana getting any sort of result from this match (a draw by the way).
