FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014

I'm really glad for what my team, Costa Rica achieved this World Cup, we made Netherlands look bad, 10+ offsides and with Keylor Navas stopping everything, he stole the Man of the Match trophy. Also we made an outstanding World Cup beating 2 Former World Champions, and equalizing with another champion like England and powerhouses like Greece and Netherlands. I know it will be hard for us to repeat this performance for Russia, but I'm happy besides the loss in the penalties

germans should rather fear the set pieces imo.

Brazil aswell. Wenn scored 4 goals out of set pieces. ;)

Btw: deserved win by Netherlands, but krul is an asshole
Good keeping and penalty killer skills.
But his behaviour and trash talk before each penalty is a disgrace and highly unfair. He sat 120 minutes on the bench playing with his balls and afterwards he irritates the opponent pk takers in such ways. Wtf?
It is a shame. And a shame that the referee did nothing against that.

But nevertheless Netherlands deserve to be in semi finals. Hope they won't participate in a penalty shootout this world cup again. I don't want to see krul on the pitch again...

I w'd say one thing Robben plays non stop 100% energy from the first kick to the last kick...That's incredible.

If he would not act, dive and claim that much he would be an absolut outstanding player.
Besides that he performs well and is in brilliant shape.
It is impressive, but after all I don't like him due to the issues i mentioned above...

"It`s Krul for the Netherlands and cruel for Costa Rica" Best comm. line of the cup so far.

So much hate for the Dutch. Love it. Might root for Brazil too now just bc of u lot.

So you think what Krul did before each penalty was fair play?
You have every right to be happy and satisfied with progressing to the next round since you're a Dutch and everything, but you're not allowed, as a human being, to not see what's plain.

I only saw him kinda do something once.. Was too nervous to pay attention to what happened in between kicks so yeah if he really did get in anyone s face and trash talked them he should've gotten a warning. At the same time it happens during regular play all the time and it's common in other sports so it perhaps doesn't bother me as much as it should.
As you said yourself about being hypocritical regarding Argentina.. Consider me on the same level here.
Regardless, much respect to CR as I said before.. They executed their high line tactic perfectly. For the most part it was a surprisingly clean game. No real controversy imho which is good. I understand the hatred for Robben from some but like Bebo said.. The guy just keeps going. Definitely the one who seemed to want to win this the most.
(btw him and Pinto embracing each other during the game and laughing together was a charming moment-wonder what that was about)
Edit: just read that Pinto said he jokingly asked Robben during the game to let them win something because he already won so many trophies and awards...hence the laughs. Pinto also said the Netherlands deserved to win and that they were lucky considering the number of chances against them. Went on to praise Robben after the game as well. Respect.

Of course the Netherlands deserved to win this match. Still, this was IMO the worst referee performance of the tournament, and i haven't forgotten the Japanese ref from the opening game.

You all expect a reaction about Belgium's elimination ?
Argentina were the better team. An unlucky deflection led to a very well scored goal by Higuain and that was enough for a more mature Argentina team. Good luck Argentina.

Very proudof our team, don't forget that this is one of the youngest teams of the tournament.

Special mention for Jan Vertonghen, he was a bit of a scape goat after the first match, but afterwards was one of the players of the tournament on a position that isn't his best. The Sb's were supposedly to be our weak point, but both Vertonghen and Alderweireld did well.

As ever Kevin De Bruyne was immense and Hazard was a bit underwhelming. IMO we missend Benteke.

Yeah, I said that just in case I was ignoring something obvious and foul but I don't think I did. I try to be evenly judgmental against friends and foes but there's always room for some hypocrisy in football ;)

I think a PK shootout is different from regular play in terms of trashtalk and I think it's beyond cunt-ish to behave like Krul did. The ref should've booked him the first time, then booked him again when he did it again, really. It's the equivalent of screaming just as a golfer swings imo.

Anyway, I mediated my reaction by understanding your glee of going through as I would've done the same. Peace man, and congrats.

I agree he should have got a booking and been told if he did it again then he would have got another yellow. I think fifa need to come out with clarification on this, can keepers do stuff like that before each shoot out kick? I thought they were confined to the 6 yard box.

It's going to be tough for Brazil but I think Germany would win against a full and fit Brazil squad as they haven't been particularly good so far anyway. At least now Brazil can save face and blame injuries and match bans if they lose. They might go out guns blazing and borderline dirty & nasty as they did against Colombia and actually win the fight, but I think Germany is more up for a rough and tumble than Colombia was.

IIRC Hart got booked straight away for trying something similar in a shootout a few years ago.
I'm fine with a GK trying to psyche the taker out from his line but all this walking around and up to the player etc. should get you a yellow

Yep, at the very least stay inside the inner box and shut the fuck up. If Romero does something similar to Krul I'd have to say he's dead to me... which basically reveals what I think about Krul at the moment.

Krul did the same before with Balotelli and he taunted Krul after he scored anyway. That seemed to be the proper way to deal with that. Still don't see the harm in it. If there is a rule on this please let me know and I'll shut up. I'd be pissed too if it d be done against the team I'm rooting for, and yeah its dick-ish but the anger/emo response I see about it seems a bit excessive. This isn't even close to the same shit we ve seen elsewhere on the pitch this tournament.
In the end he went to the right corner each time and the Dutch players shot it well against a superior goalie.

very happy about the semis! Couldn´t be better!
IMO Those four have always been the titans of world cups!

Balotelli is a hard nut to crack but he shouldn't have to deal with trash talk on top of the pressure who is already on him. Keepers don't have any pressure on PK's because it's supposed to be a goal anyway. They get a free chance to become the hero and they're not letting anyone down if they don't make it.

Still don't see the harm in it.

It's cynical and unsportsmanlike.

Yes there are actually rules against it but the referee's hasn't been especially good at setting the standard. The keeper is to shut the fuck up and stick to the goal line and await the whistle.

From wikipedia;

Similarly, a goalkeeper may also attempt to delay a penalty by cleaning his boots, asking the referee to see if the ball is placed properly and other delaying tactics. This method builds more pressure on the penalty taker, but the goalkeeper may risk punishments, most likely a yellow card.

Again, if you're Dutch I don't see any reason why you shouldn't enjoy the victory. What I initially reacted to was the belittling against the spite against the Dutch team in the thread which isn't exactly unjustified in my opinion. The Netherlands isn't the only team being criticized heavily in here so don't take it too hard. It's perfectly normal WC behavior, really. I already admitted that I'd take the victory myself and I'd probably swallow a camel or two in the process. I'd probably never buy Romero in FM ever again (not that it happens anyway) but it's not like he'd give a shit about that anyway.

Terrible from Krul, and although I love Robben's play, he's a cheat. Holland to me are stooping to any level.

Hopefully an Argentina vs Brazil final, Germany are pitiful to watch.

For me this World Cup has been about the non-European teams who have given me the best moments.

After some initial start of the tournie, it's fell away in the final phases, with the European teams bricking it in case they lose.

In danger of sounding like a hypocrite, Argentina controlled this game from start to finish. They were closer to 2 and 3 goals than Belgium was the equalizer. Argentina were very selective and cynical when choosing which counter to go for and they were mor solid defensively than I ever imagined them capable of. Great display but not much in terms entertainment value. I don't think they were particularly rough, and the replays showed that most of the times they were rolling around there was knock, stomp or elbow involved so I'm not too bothered. They simply outsmarted Belgium and almost nullified them.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, very very deserved victory and FUCK YEAH! ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP::WORSHIP:

Great post, brother.

ARGENTINA!
That's all I have to say. This is the 1st I've ever seen them in a WC Semi Final and it couldn't feel better.

Indeed. It's so touching. Every time I stop to think we're in Semi Finals, somethings gets into my chest and my stomach.

2 more to go and messi takes it home :BOP:

Please, oh please... let this be true.
Just to even think about it make my eyes get wet.

Argentina v Germany final.

God I hope not! That'd be so damn hard. Specially considering we've been Germany's babies for the last 2 WCs. It'd be mentally hard to get over in order to do things right.

It's Sunday now and I'm already nervous about Wednesday. This can't be healthy.
I'm so worried about facing Netherlands. I remember a month before the WC started, I was talking to some friends and I told them the only NT I wouldn't want to play against was precisely Netherlands. My nightmare became true. Germany and Netherlands were the last NTs I would want to have as opponents. I'd much rather have Brasil (even WITH Neymar).
Much less without Di Maria. This will be the hardest task for Sabella. To find the way to make his absence less noticeable.

On another note, I honestly can't believe this huge deal you guys are making out of timewasting and added time.
If you couldn't find the way to do things right in 90 minutes, don't cry about 4 or 5 minutes of added time. You had about 75 freaking minutes of actual time to do what you had to do.

Btw Chuny, I just read your reply to my post earlier and unfortunately I don't have any footage of it. It was fantastic though, and it was pretty cool recognizing the chants on TV when I watched the match against Belgium.
