Their motto?

...screams "awful mobile tie-ins created with AI to get them cranked out in record time with zero care or innovation". Money money money. Makes sense for FIFA to ally themselves with them.

EDIT: Well, they've got one other game to their name so far (currently unreleased)... The new 007 game. See their Mobygames page here.

A developer that only exists to make tie-ins? With no experience in a specific genre? That has to be a disaster. Surely.

The 2026 World Cup is just a few months away, and FIFA wanted the game delivered before the tournament began. If 2K wasn't ready, they wouldn't release the game. This doesn't rule out the possibility that they're still working on a new series under the license. Creating a good football game from scratch takes time.
 
I can see this turning out like the infamous Championship Manager & Football Manager breakaway where CM churned out some buggy Frankenstein abominations until the gravy train crashed. Heres some footage of Delphi's other release for what its worth

This is mostly done by IO Interactive. Delphi is probably an Outsourcer and we don't know exactly what they do. Could be just UI , could be just Assets or could be helping with Code. But seeing how IO also did Hitman I wouldn't count too much that Delphi is doing big parts of that game.

Something about the words "Netflix" and "Football Games" together doesn't quite sit right to me..
But oh well. Let's wait and see. 🤷‍♂️
 
This feels like it's a beginning of a process to try and disassociate the FIFA brand from EA. It doesn't feel to me like the Netflix game might be the end goal.

2k being as money hungry as EA and the NBA2k Series getting worse and worse from a Gameplay perspective (as a former Basketball player and NBA Fan I can tell you this game does not represent the Sport well) are reasons I would not count on a 2k Football Game being the savior of football games. 2k is not the same as 10-15 years ago.

Besides that, I would not count out 2k for the future. The FIFA would be dumb to not put something out for the WC, even if it is just a quickly developed mobile Game.

2K is definitely working on something football related seeing how they hired multiple EA gameplay guys and also one of their main sound designers. However all the rumors always go in the direction of it not being a sim football game and more going in the direction of Street Football or the City. Which would make sense given the licensing situation. 2K also can't do Community Creations like they do with WWE or NBA since the football leagues would immediately draw lawsuits if they made real jerseys and teams available as a direct download in game. Only way they could probably go is the option file route PES did.

I can't see them bothering to implement this - especially if it's a "street football" style game. It seems like a lot of effort for the sake of old-school players (who I think would be the only ones who'd be bothered to do it, but then it doesn't sound like it'll attract many old-school gamers).

Also, if you're (rightly) worried about the legal side of it, surely you wouldn't take any risks (for the sake of very few dedicated people).

Sidebar, speaking of "old-school players" - the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) is reporting (as of the end of 2025), the average gamer age is 41. That really shocked me, but it also made me wonder; why is the focus in football games always the much, much younger gamer (as can be evidenced not just by the trigger-shooter puddle-depth gameplay, but the marketing efforts)?

I guess the answer is that if you overlaid this data with where the money comes from (particularly microtransactions), the youngest group would probably be double that of any other group.

Either way, it shows there is a market that's desperately untapped at the moment (you could argue 30+ year old gamers may also want the floaty "fun" arcade gameplay we have now in FC, which is the only serious soccer game available - let's be honest - but I'd argue that the majority will have all played PES at some point and be wondering where that grounded, tough, grindy and seemingly infinitely variable PES gameplay has gone).

@Chris Davies you already mentioned it yourself. The focus is where the money is. We (the generation 30+) buy the game and that‘s it. But younger generations (and influencers) buy virtual currency that is worth millions alone. Look up videos what influencers like Troydan spent in one year on VC. One single person is spending hundred thousands of dollars on NBA 2k. And that year after year. The average FC or NBA 2k player is spending at least a hundred Dollars. The whole system is broken. But the sad truth is that our generation can‘t compete with that.

Whole gaming now is fullfilled with microtransactions, that actually macrotransactions, that costs much more then game itself.
Games as a Services (GaaS) are now almost in all famous game titles, and also whole gaming - usual time-spending habit for millions of peoples on the Earth.

Not only PES series was replaced by "soulles eFootball", but almost all game titles makes such movings in direction of using additional coins in game process. And this step also cause that "games now are soulless", while having a nice and powerful technologies for making cool games with "honest sports principle".

Did someone say Fox Engine? Damn, now that would be nice. The visuals always looked photo realistic with Fox Engine. Look at MGS Ground Zeroes- 2014 game on xbox 360 and it looks near photo realistic.

Interesting.
I did find it curious in the article I linked it had a official FIFA gaming video, and it literally didn't bother to show any footage from the upcoming game this close to the launch. I did find the naming curious, it has a subtitle of "Launch Edition" implying to me it's going to be cut down at launch?
 
I'm sceptical until I see footage, the more realistic renders there have me curious but still keeping my expectations low it's going to be anything sophisticated or realistic.

Given that not only was this going to be a Netflix game so I can't imagine it was going to be anything powerful but also given the flurry of these cheesy arcade Mario strikers style games coming out the woodwork that it'll be some kind of FUT style card flip.

That has more to do with the idea behind the game and not with the time. If EA decided to put some effort in and not use the lazy way, they could make a good or great game within a year. 3 years should absolutely be enough for a big studio. But I still really doubt that this game will be more than a mobile game.

Maybe we will see more today in Sonys State of Play. :PRAY:
 
I tried to download the Netflix WWE game. It said my phone wasn't suitable for it, so it wouldn't download. I imagine the Netflix FIFA game might be similar, requiring a high powered phone/tablet

FC sucks because about eight years ago, EA started taking its games in the completely wrong direction. FIFA 12-17 was the perfect platform for building a fantastic next-gen football game. Instead, year after year, they stripped away the best features from those games, added absurd mechanics, and placed the primary emphasis on online play. That's why there's no decent football game in 2026.Given the current technological possibilities, three years of game development isn't necessarily a short time if the vision and concept are right. However, I have absolutely no hope that Netflix's FIFA will be the missing link.
 
If it's not a one time purchase and instead requires you to have subscription for netflix, then I'm just done with the game. No way am I downgrading from one time purchase+ owning it forever to monthly subscription based model where I can easily loose access to the game.

Also if 2k didn't tryied to create a football game since all their opportunities, there's a reason.
And it's probably because they don't give a damn about football as they don't have specialized people who knows how to build one.

Even Sega could make better with Sport Interactive to create a casual football game. 2K was all sports but, american especially except Tennis from their Czech company side), NBA, NHL, Baseball at first, with NFL before they lost licences. Then a bit of Tennis and Golf.
