Not really excited if it's really 2k. Given their trackrecord, it will be infested with microtransactions and the pc port will be based on old gen consoles.
This is the sad truth - well, I don't know how true it is, but it's what devs believe. The world has changed - People don't want sim games anymore.
We can criticise NBA2k for many things but calling the offline portion of the game a limited experience is weird. MyLeague is a really deep mode, gameplay is still a blast offline if you want to play the sim way.Money makes the world go round for the companies making these games. Unfortunately, football is not popular enough with nerds for the "indie scene" to make their own game. Yes, someone like myself could do it but then the standards set by the user base for these kinds of games are so high, it would be almost impossible to get in. If one single animation is "clunky" then your game is dead to these guys.
EA are right now living off the proceeds of The Sims and FC (Ultimate team really). They are never going to upset that money stream, as long as people buy it, the game will always remain the same and suit that group.
Konami. I have no idea what they thought were doing with their latest iterations. I guess try and find a way to tap in to EA's money stream?
Honestly, I dont know much about 2K games. I dont play Basketball but last time I did, I found it an extremely limited experience. The game, like vanilla FIFA/FC, had limited and very sweaty ways to "win". That was about 2/3 years ago, it may have changed? So based on that experience, I dont hold much hope. Cynical, I know.
Fair enough. As I said. My knowledge is limited so coming to the game without knowing anything it felt, simple? Maybe I missed somethingWe can criticise NBA2k for many things but calling the offline portion of the game a limited experience is weird. If it's released on old gen consoles, the pc port has high chance of getting an old gen port. Why would the PC version be based on old gen consoles??
It is a brand new game and engine and if released by 2K it will be next gen only including PC.
Of all the 2K games it is only NBA which isn't next gen on PC.

So... that's it?
Gameplay wise yes. But regarding monetization and decline for Franchise modes 2K is awful. All their games have predatory season passes, the WWE 2K community has been treated badly this year with them deleting tons of community creations, NBAs player career is an awful monetization nightmare, Franchise mode hasn't gotten big updates and is declining, they have devolved regarding presentation. It's depressing really, a FIFA 2K had so much potential out of the box.

Like the 2K from ten years ago would have been cool. But current 2K is quickly turning it's players against them.
As another American and formerly NBA 2K-obsessed fellow, I can 300% vouch for this as the unfortunate new reality of the 2K franchise. Offline modes are still alright (when they used to be EXCELLENT), but the game was on the path to perfection and threw it all away to prioritize their MyTeam and MyPlayer (online player career) modes. MyPlayer was my favorite mode in any video game for years, but it is absolutely dreadful to play in the last two years. Wouldn’t wish the free-to-play MyPlayer grind on my worst enemy. But luckily (sarcasm) if you drop $50-$100 on your character out the gate, your player will spawn with superpowers!Being American, having grown up on 2K games (for those who don't know, believe it or not, they used to make nhl, nfl, mlb, and college basketball games too) and having seen the progression from that era (late 90's/early 2000's), seeing where they started to where they've ended up, I kinda get disheartened when I see how much trust some people have in them lol. But it just speaks to how shit sports gaming has become in the last couple of decades, specifically from around 2013 to now (well, not in FIFA's case at least), and how desperate people are for a crumb of a decent experience. Because lord knows EA won't ever reach their heights of yesteryear.
2K are not to be trusted, and they used to be heralded for at least having great gameplay, but I think starting around their 2K18 edition, things have seriously regressed. 2K16 was probably the last outstanding basketball game. And if we're talking NFL 2K, those days and the people behind it are long gone. Same probably applies to the people behind 2K16.
You'd think that at least in player career mode you'd be safe from predatory practices, but they've even monetized that game mode. People have done breakdowns and it gets more and more time consuming every single year to grind out a 99 ovr rated player if you're not willing to use your credit card. You heard me right: it costs real world money to cut out roughly 150+ hours of grinding to make your single player character the highest rated it can be. Which do you think someone with a full time job and a life are more willing to do? And here's the kicker: want to try out a different build on a different character? Those 2K coins you bought? They don't carry over. So you're starting from square one all over again. Be prepared to grind out another 150 hours, or of course, pay up.
You may have a decent experience in a gm career mode though all things considered. But do not trust 2K, under any circumstances.
But interestingly enough even NBAs gameplay is considered deteriorating by its fan base. Basically you could see NBA as the equivalent to what many think of FC. For example the current shooting mechanics in NBA 2K are considered to arcadey and defending broken. Sounds familiar, right? It will maybe sound bad to some of you and I don't pretend anyone to agree with me, but with a single fresh fooball game that still does offline on the market which has been, well, simply completely unenjoyable on the field for the last seven years for me, I would have been more than ok being exploited if the gameplay was sort of what 2k is for Basket.
No, I correct myself, in all honesty I would have probably popped the champagne. I'm just so, shamelessly damn hungry for something new and good. But it is what it is I guess.
