FIFA 11 | Career Mode | Rapid Vienna

Last week I was trying to come up with a concept for a save in the manager's career, until a nostalgic idea took hold of me.

It is connected with my best save for Rapid Vienna back in FIFA 08 on PlayStation 2. That was actually my first FIFA. I remember, I didn't even know how to choose the team I wanted to play for. It took a long time to figure it out, and I really wanted to play football, no matter who and when 😀. So I randomly chose the Swedish Helsingborg. I won't remember the details, but I lasted there for a few seasons and moved to Rapid Vienna!

It was really cool. I didn't know anything about the team, just like I don't know much today 🙂 Tactics, combinations, everything didn't matter to me then.

So, the main flashback of that career is winning the Champions League! I barely made it through the group stage, and in the playoffs, I followed the strategy of at least playing a draw away from home and not conceding a goal at home.

I remember sweating 😂 First Chelsea. Then Inter. I don't remember the semi-final against whom, but through the draw away from home I reached the final, where I beat Werder Bremen 2:1 in a hot match.

I ran around the room as if it was a real victory. The achievement felt very emotional 😀

Since then, no career or Master League has brought such emotions. Only a few individual matches.

I don't really want to go back to FIFA 08 yet. But I was choosing between FIFA 14 and FIFA 11 for PC. I chose 11. It plays surprisingly well. You can feel the physicality, the fight, a lot of shots. Beautiful, green lawns 🙂 Add some retro pain. It's very difficult to play at the legendary level. How else? And I'm far from a master in this game. That's why I think it should be more interesting.

To somehow increase interest in the save, I created a prototype of my player. A central midfielder. I wonder what it will lead to, provided that I manage to manage Rapid for a long time. Or another club if I get fired.

So, if someone suddenly read this far — thank you:APPLAUD:

If you have a desire to add your virtual player to my career, write in this topic, I will create your hero.

You can specify the position, height, weight, strong leg. But this is all optional. You can just specify your nickname or name, and I'll come up with the rest myself.

For about a week I will play exclusively exhibition tournaments to get used to FIFA 11. Then I will start my career. And during this time, someone might unsubscribe that they want to be in the Rapid Vienna academy 😀

These are groups of attributes. In each group, you can choose a maximum of two, which will have a value of 70. All others will be by default.

Tournament 1

So, the results of the first tournament are not very encouraging. The level of difficulty is legendary. The opponents were clubs of the level of up to two stars. Despite everything, they kept the ball well, but it was difficult to create chances. All teams defend well and press.

The most unsuccessful game was the home match against Brighton, where we conceded three goals in the first 30 minutes.

Then a goalless draw away against Kilmarnock and a minimal defeat of 1-2 from Exeter.

My fictional player played two matches from the bench. He was not particularly memorable. Having the nominal role of a central midfielder, he played in the position of ten.

The only goal in three matches from 16 meters was scored by Steffen Hofmann.

Tournament 2

Played the second tournament. Teams of the same level as before, up to two stars.

Again, like in the first tournament, they lost at home to an English team. This time 0-3 to Brentford. This team ultimately won the tournament. So, apparently, the team is really strong.

The other two meetings ended in a draw. First 2-2 in South Korea with the local team, and then 1-1 at home with MK Dons.

In the match with MK Dons, the winner would have advanced from the group to the semi-finals. But the draw left both overboard. In the end, the Korean club came second with two points in the standings.

If we talk about the team's game, I switched to a 4-4-2 formation. And it turned out surprisingly well. Simple players in a simple club need a simple, familiar formation.

The opponents basically always give the ball away and play exclusively on counterattacks. Therefore, using the trends in the game, we keep the ball well and combine well with the two forwards in front.

Before the third tournament, I created another fictional player in honor of this wonderful forum - Evo Web! 🙂 A young right-back from England!

So, who else wants to play for Rapid, don't hesitate, write. I'll add you, and I'll enjoy the game further! 😀

Tournament 3
The third tournament is over. The result is bad again.

The legendary difficulty level is, of course, cool, but it's hard for me. First, these are the superman goalkeepers who make simply inhuman saves.

And in general, two-star teams play very robotically and practically without mistakes. Which turned out to be a difficult task for me to win at least once.

We started against Adelaide, not bad, a 0-0 draw. Then Central Coast Mariners 0-3. That's where I got carried away, because the opponents played simply flawlessly, and the goalkeeper hit from all corners of the goal.

Having lost the chance to get out of the group, the match against Shamrock Rovers was played at world-class. It was not easy, but at least a little fair. Finally, a 2-1 victory and at the same time the challenge remains, and the opponents are not robots, but a team with strengths and weaknesses.

So, for now, I'm drawing conclusions that I'll play at a world-class level next tournament.

On a positive note, the team's newcomer, right-back Evo Web, played well in all three group stage matches.

Tournament 4

The World Class difficulty level is the optimal level for me. And not because I won the 4th tournament, but because I really feel justice.

If in the group stage matches the victories came relatively calmly, then in the semi-finals and finals the tension was palpable. High pressure from the opponent, some mistakes in simple passes by my team, all this suddenly appeared.

It was difficult, but we managed. And now I have an accurate idea that I will start the career mode at this difficulty level.

One of the most memorable moments was the goal from a free kick in the last match of the group stage from the captain.

There are two more tournaments of a similar format ahead. But now teams of the level from two to four stars will be invited. And even Rapid will have another fictional football player. This time the GPT Chat wanted to create its own player :D

So, in the end, having played a few more friendly tournaments with stronger clubs, I still started my career as a manager.

During this time, I managed to both enjoy playing FIFA 11 and be deeply disappointed when the gameplay in the career was very different from the exhibition tournaments.

As I wrote in previous posts, I stopped at the World Class difficulty. This level seemed more human to me in relation to my experience of the game. But.

But in the M mode, some outsiders put on such a show for me that I was very embarrassed. Because my squad of players, after several defeats in pre-season matches, lost their positive attitude and stopped playing, making elementary mistakes when passing, not to mention the sluggish fight for the ball.

I sat down, thought about what to do next. And somewhere from the third round of the championship, when things were going badly, I lowered the difficulty level to professional. Yes, I was worried that it would be completely easy, but no, it is not easy and at the same time interesting.

You see, I am not satisfied with the fact that every outsider plays flawlessly in defense, presses without mistakes and is always the first to any rebound of the ball. It is difficult for me to play, only because my team cannot do the basic things of football. And that is all.

FIFA 12 Screenshot 2025.04.17 - 13.16.52.69.png

The president sets the task to finish the championship at least in third place and reach the cup final (we start with the quarterfinals).

The main rivals can be safely considered RB Salzburg, Austria (our sworn enemy) and Sturm Graz. All others can be fought.

The last two matches have given me hope that FIFA 11 is a very cool game. Because, to be honest, I have not fully figured out the passes, namely how to execute them exactly at the feet of a partner. It turns out that there is one button on the joystick for this. And now that I know about it, it has become more interesting to combine and make accurate passes, spinning good combinations.

FIFA 12 Screenshot 2025.04.18 - 16.04.17.77.png

Although the last two games were interesting, it did not make winning any easier. First, we played a goalless draw at home against Red Bull, the league leader, and then we drew the same draw with Sturm, who are third in the table.

Both draws were very cool, with moments, shots, attacks, and counterattacks. And I did not excommunicate myself as a fool. Opponents are still defending well and goalkeepers are turning on superman.

So, since there are only 10 clubs in the league, we play four rounds, which is 36 matches. The gap from third place is 2 points so far. So, I hope, it will be a little more interesting in the future.

The only thing that unites all levels of difficulty is that opponents often play only on counterattacks, which is why I always have 55%+ ball possession. But mainly it is rolling in the center of the field, where the pressure on the player with the ball from the side of the opponents already begin.
