FC Barcelona Thread

Some of the Espanyol defending was dreadful, Villa's first goal especially.

Midfield covering is almost non-existant in many of the La Liga sides, quite frustratingly.

I don't like people talking about the poorness of the teams faced Barça after every match. RM is in the same league as well but the other teams aren't looking poor when faced RM. it's all about the greatness of Barça.

..or I don't want to think that Barça matches are manipulated as some Barça fans think that RM matches are so. :P no, no, joking of course. :)

hahaha Drekkard look at the bottom line "El arbitro echa una mano al barça"... i'm facepalming.

dunno what it means but it should be better than a title saying "poor Barça conceded a goal from Espanyol, cheers Madridistas!". :)

if you re-read my post I said looked offsides (smilie was the jk) you are paranoid  get a grip no one is bashing your lil precious club . Are there any other barca fans in here who can take a lil banter w/o getting their tits in a twitch . Im not part of the controversial w/ Ronaldo winning by a deflection goal off pepe. I think Messi is better by a distance even though Ronaldo prove himself in both leagues.

"Messi is better than Ronaldo so I proved that I'm not a Barça hater." :TU:

Well, i haven't seen the match, but implying that Espanol is a weak side is bollocks, Espanol are having a fantastic season.
According to Sid Low this was on paper Barca's second dificult match of the season (the most difficult of course being the away match at the Bernabeu).

Beboq, what's wrong with Barcelona's off the field antics?

It was in the summer , the only time I bash barca was then ages ago. When Laporta n players were speaking out that Fab wanted to leave. I was frustrated more at Fab ,but directed it to the players of barca.Water under the bridge for me I just put off pitch tactics so he know I was aware of what I said back then.

Don't forget Villareal and Sevilla away, gerd. Oh and Hercules!

Wait! Is Barcelona approaching players under contract? Oh God! I thought it was a typical Madrid doing...

Sarcasms apart, I think Barça is doing a great season and the fact they trash every La Liga side by 4 or 5 is because every La Liga side is crap! So do Madrid with them. 5-0 in Clásico is an exception, it might won't happen in a near future.

The difference between the big two and the rest is big, but the difference between Barcelona and Madrid is abysmal right now. We're playing the best football I've ever seen, everyone in Spain recognizes it, except Mourinho, but that's his very own problem after the last Classico.

Beboq- You even criticized barcelona players this summer for waving a catalan flag. It seems you're just trying to get to anything to criticize us. You didn't like what happened with Cesc in the summer? That's ok, if you have some common sense you'll see not all the players did unfair statements and all the fanbase has always been respectuous with Arsenal. I've been quite fair in all my posts, so yes, I'm quite touchy when people start to talk about "villarato", referees and stupid things like that without any reasonable base. We are the team with less penaltys in the last 2 seasons, for example. And we are averaging 5 goals in our last 6 matches. I don't think talking about the referees and the "off the pitch antics" as if there's nothing else is quite a clever thing to do.

All the teams do sign players and the bigger the club, the bigger the power they use to get them. We all know it. A part form Cesc, Barcelona's politics when signing has been quite fair. Barcelona did some mistakes when approaching Cesc, of course. Can't you get over it already?

Espanyol are a good team - but they fielded a massivly inexperienced defence in that game - was any of their back line over 25 years old ?

Also the 5-1 is slightly deceptive, at 3-1 Espanyol took the game to FC Barcelona, they created several dangerous attacks and Osvaldo (who is, lets be honest, an average striker) caused Puyol and Pique significant problems. Valdez once again was beaten by a very savable shot. There are weak links in the FC Barcelona team, they are good side, but they are not immortal / invincible - despite what the likes of Graham Hunter / Sky Sports (UK) say.

FC Barcelona are the best team in Spain, but in terms of points, Real Madrid can still catch them this year. A lot will depend on the match in April, who knows what will happen with injuries etc.

But the guy who said that the quality of La Liga (other teams) has a point. It's very dangerous when the league becomes bascially a one-and-a-half team race. I remember when teams like Valencia, Depor, Sociedad, Atletico, Sevilla, Betis, were genuine title contenders now all these teams can hope for is to finish 3rd. I don't enjoy watching Spanish football on TV anymore since the only games shown are mis-matches with very little chance of suprises. Occasionally you will get a match that is unpredictable (e.g. Basque derby or Espanyol v Atletico Madrid, Valencia v Atletico - a few years ago, pre-relegation, Betis v Sevilla games were always great) but these arent shown that often.

These clubs (outside the big 2) are not as strong as they were in Europe and in a few years the Spanish co-efficient could well suffer.

RM is the side that started the super-squad , while Barca tried to keep up and figured the academy will be key. I know Barca has spend some crazy amounts for Alves and brought in eto(trade) plus cash for ibrah of late. Their is a side in Mexico called "Deportivo Guadalajara" aka "Chivas" they only used players from their city or academy mainly "Mexicans only" Barca in a way are like that to a small degree.

Barca does what Arsenal tries to do hence why I called the ugly sister bit in the Arsenal thread. Barca could only concentrate on themselves and play what`s in-front of them . When you see teams putting a weaker side it could be what Mick did vs Mutd. Barca produces a fear -factor I would imagine I`m not knocking them contrario , They play every team like if they were playing RM . I agree BBVA can`t compete vs a super-squad and the key will be to emulate what Barca has done with their crops of players and beware of the Wengers n Fergies :P btw good post edmundo or shall I call you The World

ah the PSN thing is I just forgot the first "d" - and then couldnt be bothered to sign up for a new account... Looking back it does look a bit like "and the world" in Spanish, it's the first thing my brother in law said (he's native Spanish speaker) when he saw it.

Auch, I really really hope this is NOT the design for our next t-shirt. It's ugly. The current t-shirt is nice enough. Besides, this prototype derives too much from "our shirt" as we always have known it.

I'm quite tired of this habit of changing the shirt every bloody year to sell more units.

We won Levante 2-1 suffering a lot. Without Messi we're not the same team at all. He's so great that Xavi and Iniesta look slightly average without him in the pitch. But Pedro did well and scored twice. The referee wrongly disallowed us a goal and missed two clear penalties, one for each team. But bad refs are usual in Spain, what a shame.

Now to Bilbao against Athletic in the cup, the 5th of january. One of the best matches of all the season.

Let's see if Afellay can play some minutes then. Did I say I hate Bojan? That kid will never be a good player, he just lacks technichal and tactical skills. He's just a poacher.

He was given 2 extra days of holidays, that's why he didn't play. I think Guardiola wanted to test the team without him and at the same time give him some rest. In the next months we're playing 2 matches every week, starting this wednesday, so it's time to rotate a little.

With our starting eleven fit, we're a demolishing machine, but the team resents a lot when some of the key players is missing. I'm eager to see what Afellay can do in this team, I really have great hopes in him, and he can add a lot from the bench, something we're missing.

By the way, Thiago played 45 minutes. This guy is a great prospect, he may start the next season in the starting eleven if he continues his progression and we don't buy Cesc.

corrected :P

Beboq must be praying on this!

I said before and I'm still thinking the same way: In my point of view Cesc Fabregas is not needed at Barcelona right now. I just can't figure out where Pep would put him in the "machine". The current structure is spot on.

On the other hand, if Cesc wants (well, if Gunners allow him) to go back to Spain then Madrid will be a nice place to take his talents (woah, that sounds too much "LeBronism"). He is the perfect palyer to fit on our system. A doble-pivot midfield composed by Alonso and Cesc would certainly be a dream for any Madridista.

He won't go to Madrid, though you're right and he's the piece you're missing. I think he will stay in Arsenal or come to Barcelona. Guardiola wants only him and he only, so the club will pay what's needed to bring him back.

The thing is if Arsenal will allow him to go or not. In my oppinion, Cesc wasn't needed at all this season, but he's absolutely necessary next one. Xavi has played a lot of matches and he starts to be tired. He's not that young anymore... And Iniesta won't play all matches, and he's not very constant. So Cesc would play in the Xavi or Iniesta position (as a CAM or LCM). Thiago's position overlaps with Cesc, though, so if Thiago progresses a lot, maybe signing Cesc would be not that necessary, but I don't see Thiago being as good as Cesc in just one season (if it ever happens).

Arsenal fans are in their right to hope he stays there, he's an awesome player.

If you talk about Cesc don't forget to call Beboq.

I will follow this Thiago Alcantara closely. He's one top prospect to check in 2011.

What an unusual fixture has been this week in La Liga. Barça and Madrid winning by just 1 goal difference. I'm excited about tomorrow's match between Athletic and Barcelona, surely it won't be an easy game for you but with Messi in the pitch is another music.

Beboq, I always used "safe" and kind words with Cesc and Arsenal, you know it!

By the way, tomorrow's match against Bilbao at San Mamés is one of the best matches we will have this season, I really want the match to start and enjoy it. An old and equal fight for the cup.

This weekend shows how la Liga is not as uneven as it seems. It's not that the teams are crap, I think it's simply that Barcelona and Real have the best teams they have had in the last 30 years, or maybe in their history. If you put them in any other league than the Premier, they would simply waltz to the title anyway. And only the top 5 of the english league would pose some threat for them.

Really, I think they are two superteams. But, we play much much better and nice, of course. ;)
