So I am a PES5/6 only player, but I just installed PES 2021 for the first time to give it a try. Mind you, I have never played any FIFA after 1999 and the newest PES I have ever played was PES 2013 or something.
Anyway... I was quite surprised just how GOOD the game looks and how fluid and modern the animations look.
But at the same time, I was also shocked just how scripted, floaty and choreographed everything feels. Almost like playing one of these "interactive movie" games from the 90s or the first Assassin's Creed. It surely looks nice, but it feels like I am only partially in control. Everything feels smooth, but just TOO smooth, to the point where the game doesn't really feel physical at all.
I know there are a LOT of gameplay mods. But before I invest the time to dive into this rabbit hole, I wonder: Is there any way to make PES 2021 feel and play more like PES 6? What I mean is: I want to feel like I am immediately controlling every player, every move, every shot, every dribbling. I want physical contacts to feel more impactful. It's VERY hard to put into words for me, but I would get rid of the "buttered" feeling and make it more raw, physical and direct in controls. Maybe someone familiar with retro PES titles understands me.
I did a quick try of @Energia's amazing exe files (particular the PES 6 and WE5LE ones), and while they do improve the situation a lot, it's not nearly enough to get rid of this overly choreographed, floaty and un-physical feeling of the 2021 gameplay.
But oh boy, would I like my game to LOOK like PES 2021.
Sorry for the bad news mate, but even those .exe or dt18 files can't save the scripted and bad AI, or even less to think in replicate what made PES 5&6 great. I think right there on that PS2 spot was Konami's golden era in terms of gameplay that was a pinnacle and a freedom that will never be achieved (like was also achieved with PES 11/12/13 in terms of single player mods and offline content). After PES2013, freedom was lost year by year through migrating on FOX engine and focusing more on online modes and graphics than the actual small details, freedom, or offline content in the game. As a modern game, I think PES 2021 is a good game in some regards like PES 2017, but lacks so much involving mediocre AI and scripted moments as "dynamic difficulty" or whatever its called, that in the end did more harm than improving its gameplay, every game feeling similar even picking diverse teams, where also on highest difficulties you'll see the same pattern played by AI, reading inputs that needs to be cheesed that forces you to follow also a specific pattern to win. In my particular case, I'm playing PES 2021 just from time to time but I'm getting so bored after a few matches, a thing that never happens when playing more than 55+ PES 5&6 installed all seasons & cups patches...
