EA SPORTS FC 27

I've seen a lot of people complaining about this animation in the GTA VI trailer (it's not supposed to be a sim, but, it does look pretty bad).

However, I've now seen this defence of it - and it reminds me of FC in a big way. The idea that, if the player holding the controller wants to do it, they should have control of it and be able to do what they like (with supreme responsiveness)...

...but give us a realistic range of parameters, guys. Restrict us in SOME way!

I do fear that graphics are all that will be talked about over the next few years - especially if it becomes an official marketing angle, when if you actually watch the footage, it doesn't look realistic at all.

Look at just the first half-second of this clip focussed on how amazing DLSS 5 is...

You can buff the faces all you like, but if the ball moves like a bullet, stops on a dime and requires no control, you wouldn't confuse this with a clip from real-life would you?

(Yes this is a clip from a modded FC26 but unfortunately it's the same in FC27.)

What is all this dlss or is it even relevant for ps5?

Kind regards a footie gamer who just misses a good footie.
It just means better lighting, and it can make good graphics (particularly faces) look photo-realistic. It's going to be a big buzzword (like AI in general continues to be) for a long time. But it can't make the gameplay any better.

As for consoles - DLSS is an NVIDIA technology, and consoles use AMD chips, so no it's not relevant for PS5. But AMD have their own similar technology (called "FSR Diamond") and you'd have to hope the PS6 generation will be able to use it.

This is great - but... Shouldn't you have to "actually aim" for everything?

Is it not shameful how automated the gameplay is?

Fully assisted should only exist for playing with your kids, not be the default. But then, the same goes for "Competitive".

I have been testing DLSS 5 in a couple of games.
It makes a difference even more so in older games, as makes the face look much more natural and not so blocky and like a texture stuck on a face.

Maybe RDR2 the faces do look better and more detailed - It basically makes the only part of RDR2 that looks awful now look more modern.
Graphically RDR2 is still incredible on PC to this day but DLSS 5 fixes the part of the game which looked dated.
However in modern games, it makes everything look like an AI filter has been applied - On old games it is incredible technology.

But DLSS as stated is an Nvidia technology and they are night and day ahead of AMD in this field.
AMD FSR is where DLSS was 3/4 years ago.
But there isn't going to be a new Nvidia GFX card for years or a PS6 due to RAM prices only get worse for the next 4 years and even at that point they said it will stabilise, where I work they expect RAM prices to double again within the next 2/3 years.
Then they will just stabalise but RAM will never be cheap again.
It seems that companies just want everyone to just have a £200 machine at home which then all Apps, AI, Games will be cloud based which you just stream to your potato which is capable of displaying in 4K.

No amount of DLSS5 can make those ugly grass look alright in FIFA 23 onwards. Something about these games look straight up ugly. Yeah the faces itself look better but good lord the rest of the image is a mess.

Speaking of DLSS5, it will be interested to improve the graphics of older games, but the ramifications of DLSS5 would be disastrous. If there's one thing I've learnt in the past couple of years, developers will use any new feature as a crutch instead of further pushing the visuals. What DLSS5 will result in is devs putting no effort on face models and rendering them in correct lighting and then expecting users to just use DLSS5 to have good looking face with better lights. And you've already seen how much performance loss is there with DLSS5.

DLSS5 is also vendor locked feature. And these things will eventually break or loose support and require 3rd party hacks/ piss poor emulation that runs even worse- look at what happened to cuda32 and physx32 bit support. It was dropped and games with physx32 became unplayable unless you disabled it. Later on Nvidia added driver level emulation for "some" games and even there it's riddled with stutters and mediocre performance even if there's improvment.

Look at Fox Engine PES games. They already had near photorealistic face models. Heck, Metal Gear Solid V had photorealistic face rendering and that thing ran even on Xbox 360 and Ps3 and face rendering looked impressive even on that console. We also had games like Batman Arkham Knight and Rise of Tomb Raider where facial rendering looked incredible and those ran on Ps4, over a decade old hardware at this point.

And last but not the least, like all of the DLSS features- it's temporal based. And this results in awful ghosting and motion artifacts, you can easily see the ghosting on DLSS5. On some games the ghosting is less noticeable due not having complex environments but on others its a ghosting fest on motion. Same problem is there with TAA too and current PS5 era FIFA games all suffer from this awful TAA smear. FSR and DLAA improves the smearing but it's still there and there are still occlusion artifacts. Games now look blurrier than older games that had MSAA or even just piss poor fxaa [eg: Resident Evil 6].

So yeah, while DLSS5 will be really interesting in breathing some visual leap on older footie games, the future is truly dark. And will remain dark until things get better, if things ever get better. Considering the current pricing, I feel like they are trying to destroy PC and physical console market and trying to force cloud gaming onto us. The ghost of Google Stadia strikes back. Good luck modding games and owning anything when cloud gaming replaces regular gaming.

/End of rant. Apologies for being negative but I don't feel like this is overthinking.

I found manual passing incredibly difficult to master in PES games and in FIFA games (before it became FC). Now, I feel virtually no difference from fully assisted passing unless my aim is maybe 45° off, in which case it "unlocks" the ball from the rail (but with no benefit to me).

Same with semi, which used to be my preference, but now (without exaggeration) I feel zero difference from fully assisted passing.
Play full manual in EAFC is definitely a lot easier, but i don't think it's down to input correction. Player awareness and reaction is very different to PES, paired with a forgiving CPU resistance. PES demands much more precision in manual controls to override the ignorance of your teammates.

The state of football gaming 2026 is that everybody talks about a graphical improvement that makes us focus on earlier editions where gameplay was at least playable.

Funny or maybe tragic times.
I was laughing for many years… these days, it’s just tragic.
But I move on… ain’t no time to get upset (I’m old)! 😊

Have you tried DLSS5 with it yet? ;)
Without some hard workarounds, you can’t just switch on DLSS5 in your settings because FIFA 16 has no native DLSS support. I’ll paste you what the support center said:

FIFA 16 predates DLSS by several years. DLSS has to be integrated into a game’s rendering pipeline; it isn’t normally something the NVIDIA driver can universally inject into an arbitrary older game.

And unfortunately RTX Remix isn’t an easy route either. Remix is primarily designed around DirectX 8/9 fixed-function games, particularly titles from roughly 2000–2005; games released after 2010 generally use shader-based rendering that Remix can’t simply intercept.

100% mate. Let’s be honest, if EA somehow released an exact clone of FIFA 16 or Konami released an exact clone of PES 6 under the guise of a ‘remaster’ and with DLSS5 supported graphics, nobody would give their newer titles the time of day.

Can we not put stuff about other games in this thread? It makes no sense... (sorry for being a Karen)
Agreed Karen 😬😂 I’ll stop posting about anything but EAFC27 in this thread. I was just following the direction the thread was going so I’m only 10% to blame 😂

At least i can say i wouldn't even think of touching the hyperspeed assisted d-pad games anymore, even if Picasso himself would paint the graphics.

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a PS5—mainly in anticipation of GTA VI—and I'm debating whether to pick up EA Sports FC 27.
My situation:
* Last football games played: PS4-era FIFA and eFootball 2021.
* My main concern: The PS4-generation football titles felt incredibly underwhelming to me. I'm worried about dropping money on FC 27 only to find out it’s just the same old engine wrapped in a slightly shinier 4K coat of paint.
For those playing on PS5:
* Is the "Authentic" simulation pitch gameplay actually better/more realistic, or is it still driven by heavy scripting, ping-pong passing, and arcade pace?
* Does the jump to PS5 hardware feel like a genuine generational leap for sports games, or will I just end up feeling like it's no different than what we had on PS4?
* Is it worth it for a casual player, or am I guaranteed to have an underwhelming experience yet again?

Appreciate honest feedback before I spend the cash! Cheers.

Will there be a demo version of the game available? Apparently they mentioned improving the CPU AI but from the closed beta so i want to test that.

I think if you haven't played a football game since around FIFA 21/PES 21 then you'll be plesantly surprised in many areas. It's a quite big jump visually, but I still feel the gameplay will need some help from sliders to get there. AI is still not great in FC.

Saying that, Authentic gameplay is night and day from the normal gameplay you see in modes like Ultimate Team. Might be worth waiting and see what people say on launh. The beta was dissapointing for many including myself, but there's a lot of good too. I really like the actual career mode in FC27, might be one of the best ever, but right now gameplay doesn't seem to be there right now.

Did you download the free FC26 demo? I think it's called FC Showcase. Not sure if they have authentic gameplay on there, but worth a go if so. Will give you a perfect example of what to expect.

Is the "Authentic" simulation pitch gameplay actually better/more realistic
No. Its slower, but not realistic. Ball goes around on rails. No deflections, no randomness, no balls into space. Once you realise how fake the ball physics is - there is no enjoyment from it at all.

Does the jump to PS5 hardware feel like a genuine generational leap for sports games
No it does not. Generational leap would mean better physics, insane animations and general steps forward. Without exaggeration - new football games on PS5 feel like a downgrade in compare to PS4. Even graphics in the last two FC's are worse and the players look like they were made out of playdough.

Is it worth it for a casual player, or am I guaranteed to have an underwhelming experience yet again
The latter.

Im playing Fifa 14 on PS5 for a reason.
You said you felt like PS4 football games were underwhelming. Anything that came out on PS5 can hardly even be called football game. Dont waste your money.

Try the free version before buying and waiting for official release the 25th.
Authentic mode is better in FC 27 than FC 26 but need some fix to be more simulation.
If you played full automatic, you will see more tiki taka, ping pong passing, more script.

Many will buy the Ultimate version the 18th so you will see if you like the gameplay or not.

So you're calling modern football games unplayable, and then it turns out you literally didn't play any football games in the last 6 years? Come on, that's pure trolling.

We also heard feedback that defensive lines could sit higher than expected, even when using a lower Defensive Depth. We’ve made adjustments so that lower depth settings are more clearly reflected in how your defensive line positions itself, with defenders retreating sooner and maintaining a more conservative position to leave less space in behind. Your defensive line will still adjust to what’s happening on the pitch, so setting a low depth doesn’t mean your defenders will stay deep in every situation.

Where are they getting these feedback and information from? Player positioning themsevles extremely deep already and now they are going to sit back even more allowing a space of the entire country of China between defense and midfield. This just shows the canadian EA gameplay designers never watched football a day in their lives. I am done with this game. Passive CPU, passive positioning, defenders stuck on deep line, no pressure, no close down. Boring boring boring game FC 27. Rant complete. Whoever they are getting feedback from never watches football.
