EA SPORTS FC 27

I've come to the realisation over the past few days that for as long as FC is one game, it's just not going to appeal to me (and from the sound of it, most of us).

Having an "Authentic" team is a clear signal to me that EA do care about "us" - clearly, we're worth something to them (i.e. money, which is fine by me).

But I am now absolutely convinced that trying to build a realistic game from the building blocks of an eSports one is like trying to build a car with bricks. Sure you can do it, but it's never going to behave properly.

I know some people are happy with Authentic and that's good, but objectively, replay the last ten seconds of gameplay at any point and you'll see:
  • AI players hyperactively full-speed sprinting from one place to another in the middle of the pitch
  • Passes leaving players' boots by magic - only shots need actual contact
  • FCIQ forcing players into pixel-perfect positions and then doing nothing
  • A line of defenders who react like they're unaware a football game is going on, except for the 1v1-enabled player
  • Goalkeepers rooted to the spot
Etc. etc. etc.

Sliders can't add ball physics where none exist. Passes very clearly operate like this - "calculate the user's desired target and weight the ball to get it there perfectly" (including SMASHING the ball at 100mph, to a boot that controls the ball like silk).

Passes don't take into account limb momentum, ball contact etc. (even on "manual" - which, by the way, you shouldn't need to use for a player's contact with the ball to make any sense) - and there's still no such thing as a deflection. Either the ball sticks to you like a bit of dandelion fluff, redirects to a player, or goes into the goal.

Okay, next year I might be here again hoping for improvement, because I'm a hopeful person. But the thought of doing another interview with Andreas/Bogdan right now - I'd really struggle for questions, because football and this gameplay have so little in common that the only thing I could ask is "have you played FIFA 14 next-gen or FIFA 16, and if so, how do you think FC can hold a candle to your own company's previous games where the ball felt like a ball, and players had human physical limitations".

Giving feedback feels like talking a different language because it's not a case of "it would be great if X was better". The whole core of the game is just wrecked from years and years of deleting AI and physics for "Competitive" players (and I must reiterate, so many of them don't appear to want this handholding).

"Giving feedback feels like talking a different language because it's not a case of "it would be great if X was better"."

THIS is exactly why I am not as hopeful as you are. And this is also why I don't buy this game on day 1 anymore after doing so my whole life with excitement and joy... I often see EA asking for "feedback" on Steam, and I have no feedback because I literally think the game is just all wrong, and I really mean fundamentally everything is wrong. In order to give feedback I actually need to at least like the fundamentals but with these EAFC/HyperMotion builds, it's just all wrong I'm afraid...FIFA 23 was not great but it was salvageable and I had feedback still then, but that was 3 years ago and EA thinks that they have a better game now, which just leaves me speechless and without feedback, clearly I am not the target audience here.

It's just as close to super smash bros or street fighter as it is to football

It's a slow drip, and it goes on for so long that you forget just how bad it's got. And another shock horror, the kids discover they actually enjoy the likes of FIFA 17, they actually like quality things. Who would have thought! Just like CDs are coming back, and physical media...things with soul.

We complain about young people but we are the ones (not all of us) who have created this unregulated mess of a world for them to drown in and never gift them sight of what good actually is.

For me that is the only hope with companies like EA, Meta etc, regulation. Otherwise the race to the bottom is never ending.
No, competition is the hope, not regulation. If a better game comes along and takes away their players and revenue, then the game will change.

Playing the beta now, sorry to say but it's terrible, same thing as FC26..Authentic on/off doesn't matter, this game is just silly now. I think they mostly spent their time working on the Grounds. This shit reminds me of Playstation Home if anyone is old enough to remember that...Playstation Home but you can play some VOLTA matches too...

Different people, different opinions about authentic mode

I'm glad some people are enjoying it - but objectively it is simplistic, unrealistic gameplay that doesn't simulate anything (to the point that League Two teams keep pace with Premier League teams, and pass accuracy is as accurate between the two, because the ball isn't a separate entity that can be hit off-course - it simply follows a perfect path from foot-to-foot).

If someone doesn't notice that, or didn't play games where your input matched what happened on screen to the point that your controller felt like an extension of your body, then they will be okay.

But I do worry that these guys will seriously hold back development of the game (and prevent me ever coming back to FC) because why make a more technically advanced game if enough people are happy.

I've never felt so little point in giving feedback (though I have done, because I will never stop being a football gamer).

If any of you have access to the beta version, could you please test the actual impact of the Jog Dribbling slider?

For example, when you change this slider, how much does it affect the speed of on-ball animations, turning animations, inertia, and overall movement? Can it noticeably slow things down and make them feel closer to real football?

Also, how effective is the combination of lowering Acceleration together with Jog Dribbling? How much can this setup slow down the dribbling and turning animations? Or is it possible to leave Acceleration untouched and adjust only Jog Dribbling in order to achieve more realistic on-ball animations and player rotations?

If anyone has the beta and has a little free time, I would really appreciate it if you could do a few tests and share your impressions and findings here.

Thank you very much.

No, competition is the hope, not regulation. If a better game comes along and takes away their players and revenue, then the game will change.

But the world has changed, these companies used to have a passion for what they do. Look at Football Manager this year, even that's not sacred now. The people in charge of these companies are all about getting the kids addicted. No one is making a better game...it would have happened by now. The new ones that come out are all trying to be ultimate team, free to play, pay to win.

Some passes are okay, then suddenly the ball slides like a marble on glass.

And the AI red card... It's not realistic. It's not a genuine challenge for the ball, it's clearly to "meet a quota".

Which is how the whole game is designed.

How do you make a game that caters to most people's tastes and abilities and will thus make the most cash? You dumb it down. Same for games, movies, music, any art form. Why spend more time making a more advanced and complex game for less profit?

A guy who loves retro PES/FIFA and can code with the help of AI is our only hope.

Has the game been patched? Been locked in for hours today, really having a different experience.

Please don’t get me wrong, not suddenly incredible, but different feel and much more enjoyable today. I noticed some updates, but not sure when they hit, I only installed them this morning.

It seems the earliest version was 9112412, and the current one is 9135580.

Yes a patch was out today.
I haven't the chancelog but the game was a bit different.
The CPU made better choices and didn't rush to shot.
And yes, there are many fouls in the game. I have a match with 7 yellow cards and 3 red cards for the CPU. Only once. But I like this physicality. Many freekick and a penalty.

This is my feeling on FC27.
First the game looks better : the lights, the quality of the scans.
I didn't like the new menus, but it's only a personnal taste.

But what's new on the pitch?

The authentic 2.0 is what i was expecting for Authentic 1.0 : a more realistic game.

Since many years, FC-FIFA games didn't have many fouls. That was the big issue. Now , you will see the CPU made real sliding tacles, shoulder against shoulder, pull your shirt and the referee has this time will see these contacts.

I have a match against Athletico finish with 7 yellow and 3 red cards for the CPU.
In average, 6 fouls and 2 yellows.

At the start, i saw too many injuries, 3-4 by game. Since the patch, it's better, more realistic.

How is the ball physics? Better than in previous games, it didn't stick to your foot and you will lose many ball after a bad control. Dribbling is more natural because your player has more inertia so you can go in more directions than before.

This agility explains the fouls because you can pass a Defender more naturally, with skill.
And these defenders are not more quiet, they are strong and want the ball. No more big holes between you and them.
EA has increased the speed when we take a defender to have better control.

I'm playing on FUMA, Legend, Authentic and CPU on dynamic.
I have appreciated all my matchs (15) and I have only one with 1 little foul.
I didn't go on strategy settings. Only create a 4-2-4 and a 4-3-2-1 to switch when I want on the pitch.

I like the game because my matchs were hard, no easy match at all. I have seen many players having issues with bad CPU behaviour with no shot. It was between 8 to 15 shots with 8 minutes in my matches.

The defenders are too high and the shots go on target too often but you can fixed it by increased shot error and change the lines. The pass speed is too high vanilla.

I want to play more so it's a good sign for me but I understand than players could have a difference experience with different settings.

Latest patch has definitely improved the AI intensity, less stupid fouls and better at attacking but also made the game a lot quicker for me. I would say the types that adore mega slow football wouldnt like the change. I wish I could share recordings to demo what I mean.

What I would say from all of this. I have played beta versions in the past that were good and then after patch 1-3 that are meant for the UT mode, the game is back to usual crap. Please hold off buying it if you are on the fence or require mods to be happy.

Thanks for confirming, not me going crazy then!

Just to go back a little, seeing as I was dissapointed with the beta, I decided to try and play the mode rather than the game. This was something I last did back around FIFA 10/11, when gamplay frustrated but I wanted to play a season and go through the feeling of being a manager.

So I booted up the game, started with Man Utd, Legendary, Authentic, every other setting preset. For what it's worth, I play with my camera on EA Sports Gamecam. I find the preset camera fine, but the experience and visual clarity is extremely different.

What I found is that the actual manager mode is so much better than last year. It's going to be unique per playing experience, however the day to day experience is wonderful. Patience is needed, as you're still setting up the coaches and formation/playstyles, but it really pays off.

Building up to the first match of pre-season, I started seeing this sudden moments that throw you off, such as Cunha being injured for 4 weeks because of hand injury caused by being trapped in a car door. Transfer process is better too, mainly when receiving bids, as buying players is a bit elongated - having to scout first takes ages, when in the end you approach the player and he's might not be interested. PSG came in for Yoro, they offered me £20m less then asking price, and trying to get them higher made me back out. I had to hang up on Luis Enrique :P

Getting into the first match, I thought I might as well play the first one before simming, and boy I'm so happy I did. The feeling was instantly different, much more alive in the AI behaviour, but that feeling of responsiveness without being unrealistic. And something that I really, really liked was the feeling of player attributes being impactful. Whether it be pace or passing accuracy, you felt it. It's subtle, you need to invest time and experiment to see it, but I did.

It became really obvious when I started making transfers. Bringing in Tielemans totally changed my midfield, because it was such a significant upgrade on Ugarte, and distribution from midfield was very impactful and accurate.

It's odd why I'm feeling so much of a different feeling now, the patch can't have done much, but it's enough to make me want to keep playing, get up early on a Saturday to put in a few hours in before the rest if the house wakes up. I'm very happy right now.

Even on manual, passes are all about half-a-second between passer and receiver, with most passes being absolutely smashed to feet - but the ball is cushioned and controlled in a single frame and just "locks" to the recipient's boot.

The AI, with average teams, end up stringing 3-4 passes together in a couple of seconds (which sliders doesn't fix) and... How do you carry on playing at that point?

Thank you for your explanation.

If you have the FC 27 beta, could you please test Jog Dribbling? I want to know how much it actually slows down on-ball animations, turning speed, inertia and overall movement

Also, does combining lower Acceleration + lower Jog Dribbling create noticeably more realistic dribbling and rotations, or is adjusting Jog Dribbling alone enough without touching Acceleration? Any quick impressions would be greatly appreciated.

"I'm really curious to see how impactful and effective the changes to the Jog Dribbling and Sprint Dribbling sliders actually are in practice. Can adjusting these two sliders make on-ball animations, turns, and overall movement more realistic?"

That’s my main point too: regardless of whether the team is average or good, the passing is precise—there doesn't seem to be any discrepancy regarding player or team quality—and the ball stays glued to the player, making them look like a single unit rather than two separate elements, as if there were a magnet involved. I’m wondering if a patch could fix this, or if it would require a new engine.

It is definitely not a patch thing. Anth has done as good a job as I think is possible with this engine with his PC modding work, but you can't tweak values and magically fix the missing defensive / 1v1 AI, or add back the missing physics.

The sad thing is, most of that stuff was great 10+ years ago. Now it's lost to the sands of time because the focus has been the "Competitive" players for so long.

This is my problem when playing with Exeter on the game it is completely unrealistic.
We both support s**t clubs and you know as well as I do if they somehow manage to make 4/5 passes together when going forward it is a miracle.

I managed to find FIFA 17 after it disappeared from my library; with the 2026 gameplay mod from this community, it’s definitely my favorite game right now—I think I’ll skip this year's release!
