What a weird feeling I have after a first few hours with the game.
It started so well, the game has a new intro where you start after entering the Bernabeau, POV from what is revealed later is Mbappe. You walk through the entrance and all you can control is where you look. It's a nice touch with some interactive elements where you need to focus on certain players, manager etc. You walk onto the pitch and then run through some basic controls on the pitch, like a warm up pre-game. However then it takes you to the intro of the grounds, which reminds me of the FIFA 20 intro where it tried to get you to play Volta. I was out of there in a flash.
I played kick-off first, Man Utd v Liverpool, I tried competitive first, which felt horrible to be honest, so I quit out and played same match in authentic.
Now I'm going to be brief because I've started a career mode and want to play more matches before I really get into it, but first impressions are:
• Visually underwhelming, really poor LOD, but it's a beta so lets not dwell on that.
• Overall feel very similar to FC26, definitely going to need some slider magic as it stands. Game feels slow, uneventful etc. Lack of teammate support, only real way to break through teams is triggering runs for the wingers and playing a through pass because defense is pushed up, just trying to create a moment where you can trigger that situation - very predicatble and boring.
• You feel the physicality for sure, and it looks nice, but unfortunately it's having a very horrible impact on the game. What it creates is a very difficult game to hold possession, and in turn, very difficult to pass the ball around. They've tried to create that physical impact that tends to happen where you see players bump someone releasing the ball. What it creates though is many instances of you losing possessions just as you pass, as the AI know when the button is pressed and charge into you.
• AI is very agressive in general, which again I like the idea, but the implementation is poor. Right now, you'll see no fouls when the AI is pressuring, usually perfectly timed tackles and physical pushes. Where you will see fouls is when they decide to slide tackle you for no reason what so ever, and usually get a card. So no small fouls, just crazy ones.
• What annoys me is that I can see they've tried to add weight, but it's really made the game unresponsive. Releasing the ball quick is one thing that isn't great, you'll lose possession often when you want to release quickly, but also when you win a tackle, more often you'll lose possession quickly because you'll get tackled trying to get hold of the ball after a tackle. The FUT players call this 'bounce back', and it's very common here.
• Only positive I've found so far is when playing the next match which was Barcelona vs Real Madrid, as Madrid I felt the uniqueness in Bellingham and Vini Jr, whether it be quickness of dribbling or stability on the ball.
Apologies for negative start. Will now take some time to put the hours in career mode and report back. So far very concerning.
