EA SPORTS FC 27

Deep dive on gameplay.

The pitch notes say that changes in defending will not apply to authentic.

But this is what was said about defending: "instead of prioritising blocking a pass, players will now prioritize controlling an interception."

In the history of football, nobody ever did that. Defenders always prioritize breaking up a move, whatever it takes.

And now, apparently, you won't be able to tackle from behind.

And having seen more gameplay footage, looks like ball physics will be as crap as ever.

Let's see what authentic gameplay does, but hey, how can anybody be hopeful after that?

Nothing about fixing the rigid positioning and making AI positioning more space aware. I guess they will still be glued into the FC IQ bs. Also tackles looks like they will still be a binary operation. Either you make the tackle successfully or you fail it completely(which gives no room for fouls). And also no improvements to brain dead CPU AI that doesn't even know how to dribble(dribbling on straight lines). Gameplay team like always are stealing a living doing nothing at all once again. Easiest job in the world is being on FC's gameplay team.

Edit: Also incisive passing playerstyle won't be nerfed so you essentially need that playstyle if you want to pass in a tight space.

Ugh, this is fc 27, actually the year 2026, and the flow of the game reminds of the same disgusting feeling i got when watching fifa play in its ps2 days (fifa 04 05 06). Theres no real flow to it, their main USPs are curved attacking runs and stumble dribbles lol.

So the game is made for retards? Got it.

They dumbed the AI further, I can't believe this shit. You'd think it's an April fools joke, but it isn't. 💀

You might as well just play PlayStation1 games at this point. It's over for EA FC. IF this is the direction they're taking, I doubt they will ever fix it. I don't think the AI will get to same level as ps2-ps4 era FIFA games ever again.

Tbf they did they authentic mode will be detailed in the career mode trailer.

Btw has anyone noticed how fifa has fallen behind on a technical level compared to the industry standard? I.e physics and visuals. I remember when the PS5/XBSX came out the first Fifa had industry leading Hair effects etc. Now the game looks like its a half gen behind. Even other EA games like BF6 are MILES ahead.

The visuals look worse than PES 14 pc. The visual design has fallen that far. Boot FIFA 17 and you will see how much better that game looks.

Authentic gameplay won't change much if the core of the game is still broken. Authentic gameplay is just sliders and EBX tweaks and EBX doesn't expose much on the side of CPU AI or the AI prioritization of space vs formation/role or the way tackling really works(it being a binary operation). So fundamentally, the broken parts of FC 26 will stay broken in FC 27 and the game will still be easy against CPU. Most of the changes are for player vs player.

I think it's a bit of nuts that they didn't change CPU AI at all when this year and last year, even though we had the worse CPU AI in a FIFA game since FIFA 21.

I mean, they'll have to announce the Authentic Mode big style and accurately if it's really a significantly separated thing (which would be really odd, if it's the case, they did not do until now, but let's just be optimistic) from this monstrousity in the trailer, cause if they'll go the "we did improve this thing, somehow now players behave and move more realistically!" then yeah, it will be kind of hard to not be skeptic about it.

From what I've gathered, the authentic mode has practically become a separate game, so we should wait and keep our hopes up regarding how it will play—with physics and gameplay different from what was shown today. Let's wait for the 31st.

I hope so. If they move more things into EBX then there is hope for authentic gameplay, but if it's the same as FC 26, then there is only a limited set of things that's possible in Authentic gameplay(essentially what @Anth James and @Paul-v can achieve with gameplay modding).

I’m someone who plays both ultimate team and career mode. I’ll tell a lot of folks that single player in UT is one of the best experiences you can have, especially when you don’t spend money. Playing squad battles and building your team over the months is super rewarding. But, much like the rest of UT, come January the modes are a mess with super teams.

So what I’m trying to say is, the changes they’re making so far really excite me, and in a very separate way I’m looking forward to Fridays career mode video. Because gameplay in authentic mode (for me) is crazy different.

the technical gameplay side seems to have been split into two separate parts in the trailers. Some features appear to be shared between both gameplay styles, such as the new crossing system and a few other mechanics. But the truly technical side the Authentic Gameplay part was barely shown in this trailer. It has clearly been saved for the Career Mode deep dive, and that is where we’ll finally see what they have actually done with Authentic Gameplay 2.0 and which new features or improvements have been added to it.

In the Gameplay Deep Dive and the Pitch Notes, we should finally be able to see which new features have been added to Authentic Gameplay 2.0. I genuinely hope that, at the very least, the CPU tactical intelligence has made noticeable progress this year.

Personally, I no longer expect any major breakthroughs from this generation when it comes to On-the-ball animations, foot planting, Ball-control animations, Turning and dribbling animations, Player locomotion with the ball And lighting, overall color grading, or the visual quality of the pitch grass.
Although, to be honest, I can no longer even be optimistic that these areas will receive major improvements in the next generation either. The reality is that the developers’ animation priorities are clearly built around competitive online gameplay.

Because of that, both animation design and physics have to be optimized for the fastest possible responsiveness and input response. The only scenario that gives me any hope is if Authentic Gameplay receives its own dedicated animation set, separate from the online gameplay model. But I honestly doubt they will take that idea very far. The animations are fundamentally designed for online gameplay, and at best maybe, just maybe they will be made slightly slower in offline modes.

At this point, my only remaining hope is for meaningful improvements in tactical AI and match behavior, not in the game’s visual presentation.

Using AI controlled teammates to defend costs 1 token per use. Each user will be given 100 tokens per week. Additional can be purchased from the FUT store.

After watching that trailer, there's two major points that sit alongside each other for me.

One is, that the "Competitive" gameplay changes will make an already non-football-related gameplay experience even more simplistic, for the sake of the eSports guys who demand a 1v1 experience where there's as little AI as possible. (When representing an 11v11 sport.)

But outside of those super competitive players, do the core audience want this stuff? I truly don't think they do. They're buying a "football" game, and getting a football-themed Fortnite-style experience, and then screaming online that they don't like it. But nobody is listening.

I truly think there's a fundamental misunderstanding of the audience. EA just have to look away from the influencers (particularly the "official" ones who've been flown out to Vancouver) and look at Twitter - or the comments on this reveal video, for God's sake - to see how many people want something deeper.

The bigger problem I have with this is, I want to be able to play the game online. I want to be able to play FUT if I feel like it. But they are choosing to prevent me from doing so. So for all EA may say "don't worry, football fan, you've got Authentic gameplay"... I find that incredibly frustrating, condescending and somewhat missing the point. This is supposed to be a football game, and if I want to play a football game, you're limiting me to playing offline. Why can't the entire game be "Authentic", and not this horrible Mario Strikers Charged stuff?

Why not have an initial menu at boot that implements either gameplay, and allow us to play the entire game with football-first gameplay?

Two is, the bulk of these horrendous gameplay tweaks won't apply to "us". "Authentic 2.0" is going to be more separated than before, so any assumptions based on previous titles could be wrong. There is a team specifically working on Authentic now - it isn't being rushed out of the door.

Does that mean it'll be great? I have no idea. If I was to be honest with myself, I still don't think it'll go far enough. Can you realistically implement realistic physics and fix how rigid tactics are in a year? Probably not. But there is genuinely room for hope.

I think this was why Andreas has been keen (on Twitter) to point out that Authentic gameplay will be covered in the Career Mode Deep Dive and Pitch Notes. That says to me that he knew this reaction was coming (and that makes me wonder if he has similar feelings).

I watched the gameplay trailer too, and I also wondered how it's possible to be so incompetent. You only have to look at the player positioning for both teams during the plays shown, it's absolutely disastrous guys...
I do trust Andreas, he seems like a really good, passionate guy but if the gameplay foundation is built around "competitive" play, nothing good can come of it.

Well I expected that reveal to be garbage and it was. There is nothing on the deep-dive which I feel is an improvement this year but at least this time they are admitting catering for the FUT players!

What amazes me is if you sit and watch FUT YouTubers talk about the game, you could NEVER make them happy.

Some of them have started playing this FIFA 17 online remake project (I have no idea who is behind that) and completely glazing it. Its a more realistic on-the-ball experience, with runners off-the-ball, and defenders sliding in, with AI help. Yet at the same time, the changes they ask for are not in that game (manual defending) but they still enjoy it and say its better than FC 25 and FC 26.

All the FUT guys HATE individuality, attributes meaning something, PlayStyles (Traits) & "meta" Tactics, yet FIFA 17 is possibly one of the better games for having all of this.

Lord save me, I hate hypocrisy and I always see it in spades these days.

Yes...but they don't care about player positioning, they're making a button mashing esports game, cosplaying as football now. As long as you keep reminding yourself of these things then it all makes sense all of a sudden.

After watching that trailer, there's two major points that sit alongside each other for me.

One is, that trailer and everything about the gameplay changes they're making for the casual audience, is horrific - and I feel very strongly that it's the wrong direction, even for the audience they're clearly aiming this at.

I truly don't think most people want this. I truly think there's a fundamental misunderstanding of the audience, and I think you only have to look away from the influencers (particularly the "official" ones who've been flown out to Vancouver this week) and look at Twitter, to see how many people want something deeper.

I disagree somewhat with your first point. The UT guys are pretty unanimous in wanting less AI defending and more focus on attacking. They were really happy with how FC26 came out. They do not want a simulation of football but more like an eSports game based on football. I believe EA should pivot to making UT a F2P game and making career mode and "authentic gameplay" a paid game. This way they keep their cash cow with packs and FC points but have a financial interest in making good simulation gameplay.
