I should admit now... FIFA09 is better than PES. Just realised after playing almost 40 hours. Almost return this simulation game. After tweak the strategy, it seems brilliant game ever made by FIFA.

One thing should be added on FIFA 2010, please make AI play a bit dribble skills instead just build up play. Switch player to the closest offence, shooting system for semi-auto....

Good on you FIFA producer. Finally you steal back my money after PES domination.

:)

Another thing they should add is the ability to save goal replays to the local hard drive for offline viewing purposes.

It's one thing to be able to upload goals but you naturally do want to save them also if you score a cracker.

Fifa all the way.

I've just given the Pes2009 demo another blast to see if I was being too harsh on it, but after one half I had to quit out and delete it from my 360. It's that bad. :R1

I didn't buy Pes2008 as I don't believe sub-standard games should be rewarded, and Konami will get no money from me again this year.

Sadly (only b/c I loved PES), I have now seen the greatness that is FIFA 09 and have converted as well. I have played the demo religiously for hours (yes I know 4 mins per game but I love it that much) and I am blown away each time by how great the game looks and feels. Rob92 would be happy to know I've tried and gotten to quite like semi contols now too :) )

I'm in for a treat tomorrow when it releases here in the States - I can't wait - 10/12 min games finally :)

Anyway, I've been a staunch supporter of PES, since I can remember and while many were bashing it BEFORE they had even played it, I played and hated the demo before passing judgment.

So that's that - My first FIFA title since FIFA 2001, which sucked and made me go looking for another footy game, way back when. I guess I've come full circle now - Goodbye PES....Hello FIFA!

Been playing pes09, its utter shite compared to fifa 09, the gameplay it stuck in a timewarp, comon konami its 2008 not 2002 where your gameplay originates from, time to give us full manual controls, not this AI influenced shite.

I tried PES2009 PC.

While the impression was better than the demo, FIFA09 has basically left me feeling completely empty towards PES. Not just PES2009, but I also have no desire to play WE9/PES5 that I have played ever since it was released. After a couple of games in PES2009 where players seemed to be aiming just beside the keeper, as opposed to the corner of the goal where my stick was aiming, I just got fed up. The game does whatever it wants, and I just can't stand it after enjoying FIFA and having the ability to control your player to the fullest.

Also, PES feels incredibly stiff, since I haver gotten so used to being able to just throw in the occasional reverse stepover whenever I feel like it. FIFA is just so much deeper, with so much more nuance and possibility to what you want to do. PES now just feels like a button-basher, essentially. No finesse whatsoever.

Not played PES in like 2 years. I dont think I wll be getting another PES game until I see a new engine and some real changes.

Will probably buy PES2009 eventually whilst also playing Fifa 09, if PES2009 is rubbish which I think it is according to the demo, I'll probably still play PES6 a bit every now and then!

Fifa 09 destroys PES in terms of animations, collisions, and graphics, but to me it still feels too scripted. I guess you can't everything, so I'll be getting both.

Too scripted, you must be having a laugh. Try playing on semi/manual controls and you will be embarassed you made such an ignorant comment.

I don't think you understand what I mean by scripted, it has nothing to do with the controls. It has more to do by the way your teammate ai attacks and moves off the ball. It seems as if they play strictly to their position, they are not adventurous going forward, they have no freedom, they do EXACTLY what their position/tactics tell them to do. Every time you make a cross you have one player on the far post, one player on the near post, and one player in the center, they make no movement even if their is a marker right next to them or open space somewhere else, it's like this ALL the time. That is what I called scripted.

I've only played the demo, but with Real Madrid they have a free form formation, but I don't see it to be very free form.

I'm only saying what I see, I see Robben always stuck on the left wing, he never goes into the box to get to end of a low cross, the same with Sneijder, very rarely does he position himself near the center of the box. I know they are supposed to be wide midfielders, but seriously in a real game do you see wide midfielders stay isolated on the wings for 90 minutes? Very rarely do I see my wingbacks like Sergio Ramos bomb up the wings and get to the byline. Maybe they're not set to attack in that formation, but its the same with Chelsea's Bosingwa and A.Cole who I know are very attack minded in real life. I see them come up but they're always behind the winger and when I press to make them run they move pretty slowly and rarely get far up the wing, by that time I have to pass the ball to someone else.

I seriously want to believe you that players in the full game don't do exactly what the formation tells them. But from some of the goals in videos I've seen from other players, I see bad positioning from the midfielders from an offensive point of view. I rarely see anyone score with a non-attacking midfielder because they don't position themselves in the correct areas in and around the box, its always the same two strikers scoring. To me this shows how restrictive Fifa still is.

If you watch real football games, you'll notice how "unorganized" players from their formation, everyone gets a piece of the action in the attacking third.

The other night I was making a run down the left wing and I noticed my right midfielder had made a run all the way off the ring wing to the left hand side of the 6 yard box, I slipped the ball to him and he hammered it home from close range, really enjoyable goal, for him to make such a 30 or 40 yard diagonal run, me to spot it and play the perfect pass for him to finish :)

He has an arrow telling him to push forward, that's it, to make such a diagonal run shows how unscripted the game is.......

I see that a lot in counter attacks with Fifa, because you have loads off time and space to wait for your players in order to do that type of run. But when your trying to work the ball through build up the play the movement doesn't seem very smart. Plus I've also noticed that one player is always scripted to go to the center of the box, another to the near post, and one to the far post.
Do I need to put an attacking arrow on every player to make them make more movements off the ball? Can you match good teamwork goals like this in Fifa that involve lots of movement off the ball:YouTube - Winning Eleven teamwork goals

This is the main reason I still like PES despite its outdated engine. Fifa just can't capture the same unpredictably and movement off the ball yet.

Well, in almost all of those goals, the defenders are completely oblivious as to how to mark players. They don't even aim to stay between the players and goal, they just settle for being in the same general area as an opponent, making it very easy to reach someone with a throughball. Might be fun, but hardly seems realistic.

But the movement is pretty brilliant from an offensive point of view, the players seemed to swarm from all over the pitch, you see players make all sorts of diagonal runs. I just wish Fifa was able to replicate this.

If you play real football you know it is hard to defend when players are breaking from all over the field, you can't tightly mark various players at once, especially when the attacking team is passing quickly all over the pitch and adding width to the attack.

I can't talk for single player in FIFA since I only play the BAP modes but the AI in FIFA is amazing. Players cover for eachother so if a centre midfielder goes out on the wing the winger might fall in to temporarily take the CM role. It's the same with you as a BAP player, you can get told by the positional indicator to cover up the space another player in your team has left open. This is so needed in a football game and PES has never been close to something like this. In PES every player just stick to their position and don't help each other out on the pitch.

Needless to say I don't play PES anymore. My feelings about PES is pretty much the same as Trance_Allstar mentioned above. Everything about PES feels so dated.

They do cover each other on PES, I made my center backs push forward before and had my central midfielder cover.

I don't know if anyone cares to post some Fifa goals that can prove me wrong and show good teamwork and movement off the ball that even a team like Barcelona or Arsenal would be proud of.

All the goals I've seen so far are either screamers from outside the area or simple through balls to the forward. Is Barcelona/Arsenal style football possible?

I've done a lot of plays involving a lot of passing. It's only a matter of skill and having the right opponent and the right mood. In offline multiplayer I've also scored some very nice team plays.

Play the game on manual passing and shooting and manual everything else on Professional and you can do all this.

Well here is a screamer again. But just take a look at the movement of the offensive Player (5 Players are involved here). I think they moved really, really good (they are swarming in every direction) and generates a lot of passing opportunities. What do you think?

http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/1684218

I think that movement of the ball is really good in Fifa, seriously.

Your Video is lovely btw. It reminds me of Hours and Hours of endless Fun with PES. What a great Game it was, what a unbelievable great Game.

But i notice that most of the Goals in your Video are Results of a Counter Attack. And in Fifa09 you simply dont have that much space for Counter Attacks all the time. You normally dont play that fast attacking Style of PES, so you have a lot less Counter Attacks. Maybe that is the Reason for your Impression.

Of the ball Movement is good in my honest Opinion and you can play some very, very nice Teamwork.

The movement in that goal was not so good mate, everyone was spreading wide when there was loads of space closer to the center!! except for one striker who was making a mindless run staying right next to his marker.

You really only had one open passing option there, which was wide left. Everyone else was heading straight for a defender. Then from there you had to cross it where you only had on striker in the box who was being marked.

I also noticed that the players seem to stop runs too much, and run too slowly. I'm sure they could have easily ran faster than the person dribbling because they don't have a ball.

BTW what a screamer!!! Good job.:APPLAUD:

Its definitely not a counter attack, any team would have been proud of such slick passing and teamwork. Just look how the winger comes from a wide area to the center

People too on the Fifa forums have been voicing this problem with the off the ball movments: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/...rosoft-xbox-360/353945-if-only-beautiful.html

In the past, FIFA has always felt to me like the ball was a big, wet, spnge one, very sluggish. This time, it sounds like a flyaway when it 'pings' around.

Granted, the likenesses, graphics and presentation are top notch, but overall, I just don't feel like I'm playing football, more along for the ride.

This. Although I give FIFA more credit and time than I did before. Also, I really detest EA as a company and it makes me think twice about any game that has their name on it.

@Trequartista10

I didnt notice problems with the off the ball movements, but maybe you have a Point here mate. I think i need some time to go deeper into it and try some things out. It is still a brand new game and it always need some time to find the good and bad (or weaker) Parts of a Game. I will take a deeper look and later on i will give you my honest Opinion (if you are right, then you are right) :-)

Ohhh, and thanks for your compliment about the screamer. I have to admit it wasnt a goal of mine. I just found it in the Video Thread and this little baby was scored by WEtongelre.

But i probably could score it toooo and that is all what counts! ähhm, no wait - the truth is, at this moment i cant score a screamer even if you pay me but i now how to find them :-D

Well, at 0:02 seconds, you have 3 white team defenders withing one meter of eachother, and noone marks anyone. It's going to be easy to do goals like these when the defenders don't have a clue. :)

Add to that the fact that the scorer would clearly be offside if it weren't because of the usual side back marking himself 4 meters below the defensive line.

Really, don't put PES AI as an example of nothing. It's outdated and numb, players don't have a clue about what they're doing!

Did you see where the attacker came from? Noboby picked up the attacker because he came from way outwide, the big mistake was that nobody was tracking back. Nobody who in the box was able to see that attacker coming in the first place, its not like they have eyes in the back of their head. Did you see how fast the one touch passing was? Nobody could have anticipated what was going to happen there because the run was so well timed. You could point out every defensive mistake for almost every goal scored in either game and real life, that's part of why the goals are scored.

Yes the PES defensvie ai is clueless at times, Fifa's is way superior but you have to admit that the offensive ai does make good runs and explore beyond their position. Football is a pretty disorganized game on the offensive end, if everyone was scripted on where to run then they would make the defenders job a lot more easier like in Fifa.

Look at this goal in real life:YouTube - Arsenal Teamwork goal (Gunner Style)

Nobody tracked back with Viera, its practically the same what happened with the PES goal I showed. Surprise defenders make mistakes!!!They're not super humans.

Look Fifa's offensive AI plays EXACTLY how you tell them to play, they do the scripted runs that they are told to do. Do you think in real life the players have scripted runs given by the manager? The manager gives them a role and tactics, but doesn't tell them exactly what to do.

Bottomline Fifa plays how the football should be played in the manager's head/on paper. On paper they are given a certain position, but on the pitch they must think for themselves or else the opponent can easily predict what they will do (Like in Fifa).

I don't think PES 2009 is better overall than Fifa this year, but I think Fifa should incorporate some of these improvements for next year. Fifa has more potential than PES imo because they already have a next gen engine, PES is yet to make one, which really makes me wonder where they are trying to go with this game. :?

Hey Tre I think your missing the point and that is not every team can play like each other. That means that not all teams can play smooth free flowing football like Arsenal and that is what the game captures(Fifa). In the PES vids you can play as a terrible team and still pass around the pitch like that???? In fifa if you are a bad team you play like one but you can use tactics to play to your strengths. Long ball, possession football are all things you can do its just that all teams aren't good at certain things.

Fifa has made a totally fantastic game and I can't ever go back to PES cause I heard that 09 is another terrible game.
