Hi Gents and Ladys of EvoWeb, I have finally decided and overcome my fear to create a thread for one of the most beautiful, overwhelming and profound games ever.

Namely, DCS World or DCS World Steam Edition. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/
Developer are Eagle Dynamics.

But it is more a Simulation than a "Game".

The standard version is essentially free and offers two different aircraft and a map.
Those who want to delve deeper into the simulation can also purchase so-called modules (DLCs). Listing them all here would be a bit overwhelming. These modules offer various aircraft or even some helicopters, or maps, or even campaigns.

The simulation includes a mission editor, tutorials, MP, ready-made SP missions, quick missions and much more.

The simulation is available for download on Steam or from the game's website. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/stable/
Here you can find very importent documents to learn your aircraft or helicopter. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/

Here are some trailers from YouTube from the developers.

The first one, is bit old but, you wanna get high?

I wrote that I now own a HOTAS.

And now I'm planning on getting the A10 C module soon. I might wait for Steam's summer sale, though. So far,

I've read 114 pages of the more than 700-page manual about the aircraft. So I still have a lot to do. :SHHH:

The simulation, with the beauty of floating above the clouds, or breaking through the cloud cover and seeing the sun, or watching a beautiful sunrise or sunset, plus the freedom above the clouds is simply amazing.
Just in the YouTube videos. I love this feeling.

Several months ago, I managed to hook up my PSVR2 to my PC and gave this a go. It's been an ambition of mine for a while to play a flight simulator in VR.

While the only controllers I used were the VR ones, and while I had no idea what I was doing, the effect was absolutely fantastic. I hope you get to try that one day @Carles P., especially with your flight stick.

Thanks Chris. Maybe someday. We call it here: "never say never".
I would also have to deal with the VR subject first.

You can call me crazy but.
I don't really want to get political right now. And just in case anyone's interested.

I won't be buying any DLC (module) or anything else for DCS!

It all started when I saw a news item on the Eagle Dynamics website for DCS. They were celebrating Victory Day. It was on May 9th, not May 8th.
That surprised me a bit.

Sometime later, I got a bit curious and googled where the developers were from.

This makes me so incredibly angry and scary at the same time.

I simply don't want to support a single cent for Ruzzia's war against Europe.

Everyone can decide for themselves how they deal with it.

As for me, I've finally closed the DCS chapter and uninstalled the game, and I will never, ever transfer or pay a single cent to Eagle Dynamics, or in any way support this insane war!

Hopefully I didn't buy the Thrustmaster Hotas for nothing and can somehow use it with MSFS.

PS: If one of our admins wants to delete or lock the thread, they are welcome to do so, as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you!

I respect your opinion and your decisions. I usually don't mix political affiliations with certain things, but I was checking DCS in this steam sale so your post piqued my interest. I couldn't find anything related to the developers in the ongoing war. Is it just because they are Russian? Or what is the reasoning? Are purchases to DCS going to support the war in some way? Are the developers somehow contributing to the war or made political comments?
The only thing I could find in the forums from a post from a member of Eagle Dynamics (from 2022, though) :

"We are a Swiss based company with employees all over the globe, yes ED started out in Russia, but we have since grown and changed. We have employees in Russia still, Belarus and Ukraine... we have employees in many other places as well. We have some key people in Russia that have been with ED since the start, Russian law would continue to impact them no matter where the company is located, the same way Wags is careful about following US laws in his work with DCS and ED.

Our footprint in Russia shrinks as much as it grows in other parts of the world, even saying we are a swiss company undermines the fact that we are a global company more than anything.

The forums addresses and such were updated in big part by issues with having .ru in the current global environment, but it was also long overdue, this just pushed it to be done faster. "

Again, I'm just asking, respectfully, because I found it curious as just last week, I was checking the DCS steam page and saw your post.

Slightly scratching the topic for me…
I was invited by friends to play Arma reforger with them.
When I was enjoying the battlefield series back in the day as a teenager and a bit later, these days, I really don’t want to play shooter or wargames no more.
It’s just that I’m happy that I can live in peace and from a gut feeling, I think I couldn’t enjoy it anymore.
But that’s just showing me that I am growing, evolving and also setting different values for myself, maybe.
My comment here isn’t directed towards other users. It’s just how I see it for myself these days.
You keep on playing what you prefer. 🥳
