DayZ Standalone

Dickhead. You should try to avoid others. If you have any sharp tool - you can scrape bark of the tree. Together with a short stick you can make hand drill to start a fire.
Yeah ,worst part is that is saw a video on creating hand drill before I started playing ,but having him around i couldn't really do it.
I see all this stuff as necessary practice.
I could hear ,what I think it as bears howling in the woods man ,Jesus!

I've spawned in to a place that sucks now ,swamp with ruins and hardly any houses for miles.
Think I'll let that one has its course (die) and hope for a better respawn next time

One thing that pisses me off is that gears just go missing in my inventory ,when your trying to build up a decent character it's so depleting when it happens.
Today my cleaver disappeared (no i don't throw it away or put it somewhere).
Which means I can't open cans or slaughter a checken for food.

Later on I found a machine gun ,loaded it up ,felt great ,now that's gone too.
Wtf?

Are you playing on PC?
Sometimes server mods or people messing too much with server code without knowing what they are doing will cause shit like this too happen.

Nope , but on a modded Xbox server.
It's frustrating as hell since I really need all my loot to survive.

Not sure if it's happened on a public server before ,i usually die quickly there:)

Thanks buddy

You do. Without even realising.
I havent had inventory disappearing on me for years now. You do drop them.
For example - when you have a knife in your hand and cut yourself some stick - when you pick take that short stick in your hands, instead of inventory, while still holding a knife - knife will drop on the ground.
Basically - dont take stuff into your hands while holding another item, coz the item you are holding at the time will not go back to your inventory automatically.

Edit: Its especially tricky when you setting up campfire. You have to take fireplace in your hands, take the drill in your hands, place logs. I quite often drop stuff on the ground while doing it, as Im shuffling a lot of items there.
But Im aware that it happens and every time check my vicinity for any items I might have dropped accidentally.

Its so weird that I've had dropped my AR type of gun ,I didn't pick anything up ,at least I don't think so.
So the trick is being careful when having it "to hands"?
More or less only when performing and action (shooting etc)?

More like whenever you are carrying anything in your hands while looting. Try to put it back to your inventory before you pick anything else up. Until you get used to how the items are transfered from one place to another and when they can drop - its easier not to have anything while picking stuff up.

R1 wheel menu comes in handy, but you need some better quality jackets, or vests to have more slots there.

Most of the time reason for losing items is simple:
- you have something in your hands
- you pick another item to your inventory
- now you have no space in your inventory to store the original item that you are holding in your hands
- next time you try to pick something up - you will drop the item you were holding

Pressing inventory menu is a good habit to have, even when looting. It will show you items in your vicinity (top left corner).
Anything you dropped will be there. Its also handy to spot the loot. In some places, like barns, its difficult to find items. Searching via vicinity is easier.

Im taking a little break now, coz im sick and cant talk. Cant play any games that require talking, thinking, or quick reactions. Will be back when it passes.

Thanks for all your advices buddy appreciate them ,all really getting in to this ,learning curve tough as hell (or more controlled)
Get well and see you on zagoria when you get better

Well? Anyone still popping in from time to time?
Now that there's a new map being released for the first time in years on console - it's a great time to jump back in.
It's still, by far, the most complex and immersive survival game I have ever played.
I'll be definitely getting new DLC when it drops.

Will try it again once they release the Namalsk map (I know it isn't Namalsk but is meant to bring the extra survival you needed on Namalsk)
Namalsk was the best map on DayZ mod and glad for other users they are finally releasing this type of map for the standalone.

Been trying to get back a few times into DayZ but personally the standalone IMO was never as good as modded Epoch but now with Namalsk will finally try it again and at £7.50 it is not the rip off the other maps were.

Where did you hear it's 7.50?
I heard it will be almost 30quid.

It is £7.50 on Steam
Or was this morning - It has now been changed to add to wish list.. So clearly going to be a different price.
Or maybe I saw it at a different price but swear it said £7.50 this morning.

Just checked online and states it will be $26.99 so that means £24.99 which isn't great.

They could charge 50 and most people on consoles would buy it.
To be fair to them - they have been supporting this game all the time and adding stuff to it regularly and Livonia became part of a main game now.

Personally I always look at the amount of playtime that the game will provide and after 500hrs I feel like I owe them few quid at this stage.

The only thing I don't like is that the map is half the size of Livonia. It will be the smallest of them all. This very much goes against the idea of DayZ vast open world. Having said that - Namalsk is considered the best map by many and Namalsk is smaller than Sakhal.

Don't worry about the size of the map Namalsk was very small compared to Chernarus.
It is a completely different experience, if they make this map half as good as Namalsk with the extra hard zombies and bloodsuckers then it is a seriously different/better challenge.

@Placebo - can you find something out for me? Can you check if everything from this new DLC will be transferable across other maps on consoles?
I'm talking about private servers.
Can we use new mechanics and new items on the other maps and can we have winter Chernarus and winter Livonia?
It's a great opportunity to enhance the entire game, not only having one fresh map.

Even tho DLC launch was a bit of a clusterfuck with all servers down on the first day - general reception of Frostline DLC is mostly very positive.
People love the new map and new challenging survival mechanics.
Blizzards look amazing, wind howling will give you chills - atmosphere is fantastic.
Just having a glimpse at official servers and you can see how hugely popular DayZ has become.
I think it's bigger than even Bohemia realized, coz most of the official servers are full and have queues to get in.
Same with all Sakhal community servers.
I play on two that are still hardcore vanilla, just have some rules to make it fair (like no duping or alt accounts). Both of them created two Sakhal servers each and all 4 are constantly full with queues.
I really do hope that first big DLC in years will be a proper waking call for Bohemia to move more maps to consoles and put more resources into this game, coz it seems to be more popular now than it ever was.

Not sure about consoles but game peaked on PC with 73,000 9 months ago on PC.
Averaging around 55,000 players concurrently online on PC in the past 24 hours.

Console figures are not known publicly but it is believed there slightly more people playing on both consoles as PC but numbers are similar.

There is no figures on how popular the Arma 2 mod was as only records show more than 1 million different steam accounts played it.

I have now purchased Namalsk (don't know what it is really called, so Namalsk it is) and will give it a go shortly on a popular server and try and have to learn to play it again - I do miss playing it though with my Apache helicopter.

I'm going by what I see - both official and public servers full and with queues since release, which I have never seen on consoles before.

Well maybe if you read my post before quoting it - you would have known that it's called Sakhal.

Edit:
Big demand confirmed

Started finally messing around again and creating a server.
Must admit adding content to a server might be slightly easier now but it is nowhere near as clean.
One of my favourite parts of running a DayZ server back in the Arma 2 days was editing the server files and being able to change everything to my liking.

So far all I done was add DayZ Expansion which adds new content - mainly the Huey - But really miss that in the old DayZ anything which was in the original Arma 2 game could be added to the game.
If anyone has any recommendations for MODS then let me know.

It has been so long since I played the game, so me and couple of mates are just starting on Chernarus for now to get back up to speed.
I don't think I have played the standalone for more than about 20-30 hours as was a complete mess to start with and way off the days of Epoch.

Once I try this for a few weeks will move onto Sakhul map.

You ever play the Arma 2 mod think called "Escape from Chernarus"? You start deep in enemy territory, in a makeshift prison. Then have to find where the Hell you are, with no map or anything and then eacape to a certain point. Was so awesome and tense.

Also, perhaps greatest Arma 2 mod ever imo. One guy is a killer and he has to travel however he likes to where 10 prostitutes are, all scattered across the map and kill every prostitute. At the same time everyone else is police with police cars and everything else later on and they have to find the killer and kill him before he kills every prostitute. It is fantastic game of cat and mouse. Especially with say 5+ mates on at the same time.
