Cyberpunk 2077

There's a difference between actual side content and just copy+pasting shit around the map for you to find/clear like most Ubisoft open world game and the majority of others. You're basically just doing a chore at that point, like a map janitor. I wouldn't class it as "hours of gameplay" to factor into the value of the game. I make an exception to this if the gameplay mechanics and traversing the map is fun enough to make up for the repetitiveness of the tasks, like in Just Cause 3.

Lately, those open worlds really make me feel like that sometimes.

I’m really having high hopes in CDPR bringing something new to the table. At least make it worthwhile!
 
Not sure whether to wait for PS5 or not version.

They've said maybe not even be available next year, just said that's the soonest.

I thought the PS5 and Series X versions were being released at the same time, and this was one of the reasons for the delay.

If not I would probably wait - Even in compressed YouTube videos, the PC version looks absolute night and day better than the PS4 version, and I would expect the PS5 version to look the same as a high end PC.

the delay was because the current/last gen consoles version needed fixing. the next gen patch (aka PS5 and XSX upgrade) was, and afaik still is, scheduled for a 2021 release. from my guts: summer 2021-fall 2021.

at least on XSX and PS5 there seems to be performance and quality modes available for now.
 
I never saw myself not getting this on day 1, but from what I'm hearing in the impressions I think I'll wait for the PS5 version (whenever that is!) when the bugs have hopefully been ironed out a bit.
 
Cyberpunk 2077 Epileptic PSA
Over the years, accessibility has been garnering more and more attention in the gaming space, and for good reason. While many studios have been making an incredible effort to make games more accessible to all, there is always more work to be done in entertainment; not just games. After playing Cyberpunk 2077 for the past week and a half (our full review can be seen here), there is an epileptic warning I'd like to offer to those Samurai heading into Night City. Enjoy your time, but here is a heads up to do so safely if you're vulnerable to epileptic triggers.
A common trigger for epileptics in media are rapid blinking lights, specifically of the red and white variety. As someone that does have seizures myself due to an injury from my time when I was active duty, the past few years have been a massive learning experience for me when navigating some of my favorite and most anticipated games. I no longer can enjoy titles like Dead Space freely like I used to, which opened up an entirely new world of development that I was previously blind to. Since seizures have become my new norm, I often make sure to pay special attention to certain design choices that can be harmful to those sensitive to neurological traps so that I can decide for myself if something is safe to play, decide if there is a way to work around those obstacles, and try to offer some navigational tools for others that may be facing the same roadblock.
During my time with Cyberpunk 2077, I suffered one major seizure and felt several moments where I was close to another one. I kept going because I made that decision to, and I feel like that decision helped me sort of slap together a small little guide for players wanting to take part in this game for fear of missing out.
Cyberpunk 2077 is about hedonistic excess. Much like the tabletop game that inspired the open-world RPG, everything is brighter, louder, and more in your face. Pair that with the reliance on technological interfacing, and some triggers were expected. With Cyberpunk 2077, however, there are a lot that you need to be aware of. For those excited to experience CD Projekt RED's latest adventure, there is still a way to do so - though there is a risk - but you'll need to know a few things going in.
General triggers
Due to the nature of interfacing, there is a lot of red glitching animations seen throughout the game's progression. My monitor has an "eye-saving mode" that dims the blue light in my screen that I often use to help with things like this, and that has helped immensely. During my time with Night City, there were moments when walking into clubs and bars that were immediate "danger zones" for epileptics. While I would never recommend someone push past their limits, especially with something as serious as epilepsy, I do know how excitement can push that desire so if it's going to happen, I want you to be as safe as possible. Trust me, I get it. My stubborn butt continues to play Dead Space over and over again despite knowing it usually ends up poorly for me.
Further in the story, interactions with Johnny Silverhand (which was shown in the pre-launch trailers) will be highlighted with a flickering pale blue glitch effect. This won't be a trigger for everyone, but it will for some forms of epilepsy, so that is something to be mindful as well. Look away from the screen with this happens, turn down the brightness of your screen, play around with the colorblind modes; there are a few workarounds here to use if you insist on playing.
Braindance warning
Braindances are something that CDPR has been talking about as a feature for awhile now, and it's an intricate part of the story from start to finish. BD's allow players to interface with memories, often of the deceased, by plugging into a mainframe and diving in. Pretty much everything about this is a trigger and this is something that caused me to have a grand mal seizure when playing to help with our review. This is also a trigger on many levels, starting with the device itself.
When "suiting up" for a BD, especially with Judy, V will be given a headset that is meant to onset the instance. The headset fits over both eyes and features a rapid onslaught of white and red blinking LEDs, much like the actual device neurologists use in real life to trigger a seizure when they need to trigger one for diagnosis purposes. If not modeled off of the IRL design, it's a very spot-on coincidence, and because of that this is one aspect that I would personally advise you to avoid altogether. When you notice the headset come into play, look away completely or close your eyes. This is a pattern of lights designed to trigger an epileptic episode and it very much did that in my own personal playthrough.
Once inside of a BD, there are several layers to "explore" the memory, including a soundwave layer, a thermal layer, and a more digitized way of scanning. Each offers specific glitch animations that could be a danger, especially with the digitized layer. While these can't be avoided for the story, you can pause and play as you wish within these scenarios, making it easier to tailor them where needed, or to call in a gamer backup buddy if absolutely necessary (shoutout to my husband for helping me when the BD's were longer than usual).
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that is massive with content that will crawl under your skin in true hedonistic fashion, sometimes in the best way. Our own Andrew Reiner gave the CDPR title a 9 out of 10, which you can learn more about right here.

Game is now pre-loaded, but I suspect there will be an awful lot of patches being released in the first few weeks/months.

So might start a game to see what it looks like in Ultra settings, but doubt I will actually play it till around Christmas, as all my spare time at the moment goes to FM.

Man, I have completely lost interest in this. Cyberpunk has never really been my style but I love The Witcher 3 so much I was pretty much ready to just throw money to CDPR regardless. I bet they will iron out the kinks eventually and I will probably still get it for the PS5 at some point.
 
OK, last day, I just cancelled my pre-order. Going to wait for reviews/time to see if its something I am interested in. I got drawn into the hype but I never pre-order a game, so will sit this one out. Hopefully we can get some reviews here soon.

I want a cyberpunk setting game, but this one for some reason isn't my type of game; hope it does well though, its got some hefty expectations.

I saw that IGN only gave it a 9, and not the fully expected 10.
So must be something wrong with it, a game not a 10 on IGN means it is above average.

Ha! I don't really pay attention to those review sites... I'd trust more what people here have to say as long as they are not covered in blind fanboyism.
One of the main reason I hear this is a MUST buy its because "they did the witcher 3".... but the game is so ambitious I'm weary of it, much less pre-order it.

I'd actually like to hear your impressions, especially bc you have a monster PC and to see if bugs are just everywhere

I have finished downloading the game now.

Now just need to wait a month for major bugs to be fixed and some decent mods to be released.
 
It's a single player game, I'll wait a few years until it becomes £10 with all patches/DLC or Epic give it away. Only thing that might change my mind is if the multiplayer is amazing.

But come on, some impressions..... It hasn't been the best from what I've been reading (and much worse if you play in PS4/XBO) but I'd like to hear your take. Don't tell me you installed it to shelve it.... I read this to improve PC performance which might help you (even with beefy rigs): Turn off Chromatic Aberration, Film Grain and Motion Blur

That's pretty rough. Man it looks like a PS2 game. Seems this game needed like a year more to get optimized. Looks like a very unpolished GTA.
My recommendation: don't pre-order games. This was back when they would go out of stock. No reason now. Hopefully they fix and release a third person view
 
Done the first sort of 20-30 minutes of the game and ran it in 4K, with absolutely all the settings on MAX.
So PC performance is pretty decent, but think it is massively helped that it was tweaked to hell by Nvidia to be a flagship game for them.

Absolute Ultra settings everything maxed out @4K on PC, I get a frame rate of 45-50FPS, never lower than 45 with everything on Ultra even the Ray Tracing settings on Ultra - But mind you that is on an RTX 3080 and an i9 processor, so nearly as good as it gets on PC.

Well, trying to run this on old hardware (my PC) makes the game almost... like the PS4 version. One can get a little over 30 FPS, and that's it. But I could cope with it (Spiderman was locked at 30 FPS, and it was great) if it weren't for the bugs and the inconsistencies.

I mean, I barely played it (and this is just my opinion), but the way that the game gives you a tutorial on 3 of the most important aspects of the game (gunfighting, hacking and uh, stealth-eing) it seems none of the 3 are any fun to play with, AT ALL. Enemies seem like bullet sponges, the cover system (or lack thereof) seem ridiculous (you just crouch behind something), stealth seems dodgy and hacking feels kinda lame... Driving feels horrible (and surprisingly there's no sensitivity tweaks for the driving controls). Oh, and melee combat also feels dull.

To me this is by no means an action-RPG... It's an RPG, period. Actions seem too based on stats (which for RPG-only enthusiasts it might be a plus... not my case, unfortunately). But I don't remember being so dubious like this when Witcher 3 came out. I liked it at first, and then I was totally immersed into it. It's one of my favorite games of all time (even with not so good combat and shitty inventory and leveling system... You'd thing CDPR would've learned its lesson by now). Maybe it happens with this one, after lots of patches, polishing (no pun) and community mods, can't tell... First impressions were not good, and sure, maybe they would be better if I had better hardware, but how many PC gamers worldwide can afford RTX's in covid times? 5-10% ? Not to mention with all the shortage of GPU's, brought along with all this cryptocurrency cancer... :RANT:

I sincerely hope this doesn't end up flopping as it would be one of the biggest of the century. I guess it comes with the company (and the "audience") building a hype for so many years, and then the delays, and then the bugs. I'm really glad I haven't pre-ordered this.
