Champions League 2009-10

Great night for Olympiacos, despite the loss.
My team suffers from the start of the season from many injuries, manager changes, and as a consequence, the players have no stamina, no physical condition. BUT, tonight they gave everything they had, and despite losing 1-0 and playing with 10 players because of Derbyshire's red card, they stood up, and made the match "a thriller". We managed to keep possession of the ball (56% OLY - 44% BOR)(!), and Bordeaux had no shots on target until 75' minute! Sadly, Nikopolidis was in a very bad day, and we conceded 2 goals from his mistakes.

ps. Mitroglou scored a decent goal after being subbed in only a few minutes!

Yesterday Barcelona (and Messi) were absolutely irresistible.
Great football.
The best thing that can happen is another final between Barcelona and Arsenal. Boy that would be great.

I second that. We were just fantastic, and that's because Touré is back! Messi is from another world, and if we reach our peak in the next weeks, we arwe really a threat for the title.

My favorite final would be against an english team, but first there are a lot of difficult matches in quarterfinals and semifinals, and all the teams are very very strong and deserve to reach the final. But the good news for us is we're getting in shape again.

Yup drekkard, Messi was out of this world and yes Touré was the second best...
I loved the second goal, Messi's pass and Touré's run were pure genius...great. Art.

I hope we get to face you at some point this season, your brilliant side to watch but I do feel we owe you something since you didn't see the real United in Rome. :))

If we have to face Manchester, I would prefer it to be in the final, just to make it epic. I just love Rooney. Not his goals, but his vision and his absolute determination. It's the reason why this season I watch more Man Utd. matches than usual. And I'm glad Ronaldo is not shadowing him. I have more fear of a Man Utd leaded by Rooney, it makes the whole team play better.

I think were much more of a "Team" now rather than having players compensate for Ronaldo and Rooney has been brilliant since.

Its a conspiracy!

But seriously, all games are promising, specially Arsenal - Barcelona, their games can be epic.
I can see Inter and United having quite difficult matches too. Although Bayern is weird sometimes, lets hope it won't be one of those days for them.

Yah but you could argue Robben and Ribery will tear the likes of G. Neville or Rafael apart. We'll just have to wait and see... but yah I think Man Utd has a good chance of making it to the final now.

Barca 4 - 1 Arsenal. All four goals for Barca were scored by Leo Messi after Bendtner scored the first goal for Arsenal. Does it make any sense to ask who on this earth could possibly ever stop this guy?

Easy answer mate:

Ha ha ha, how true is that. If Maradona has the best player in the planet and fails to do something big in the world cup would be only because of his null skills at coaching.

I've already said in another thread that Argentina's WC campaign could be troubled by the fact that Maradonna could be jealous of Messi.
Maradonna considers himself the best player ever (IMO Pele is the best) and the fact that more and more people are beginning to think Messi is the best ever (it's to soon to say that) could influence Maradonna.
So yes, the only one who can stop Messi is indeed Maradonna.

Messi isn't anywhere near the best though, He's not even as good Ronaldo (el phenomenon). Saying that I think Argentina are 3rd favourates behind Brazil and Spain.

The only problem I have with Ronaldo is that sometimes he'll put himself before the team, I hate that.

In recent games its been so blatantly obvious that he goes out of his way to get his name on the score sheet. In the process he ignores team mates who are clearly in better positions than he is, its as if he gets upset that Higuian has scored but he hasn't.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to score but not at the sacrifice of your team mates.

No one can question whether Messi is a team player.

Barca vs Bordeaux in the final.

He meant the original Ronaldo mate. :)

Agree but the contrary is also true. Remember when Higuain didn't pass Ronaldo in many occasions against Lyon at Bernabeu.
Too many egos at Madrid my friend, that's why I want Mou to Real.

I read it wrong then, my bad.

EDIT: ^ I remember those but I'd put that down to Higuian desperately trying to make up for his earlier miss, it doesn't make it any better but it's also understandable.

He used to do the same when he was at United, but it's that selfishness that makes him such a good player.

I remember a couple of seasons ago in a match against Dynamo Kiev we were beating them 3-0 or something and he hadn't scored and until he did he kept going on solo runs, refusing to pass to anyone and smashing shots at goal from all over! Think he got two in the end!

I'm still pissed off by that first half, but then again: It was one out of four, so ...
Coming back from a 0:3 is awesome. Robben is absolutely brilliant, producing one screamer after the other.
Lyon will be another close call, I'm sure of that. I just hope Badstuber never plays left back again - but who should replace him? :(

Pranjic used to play left-back and very well too.
Yeah Badstuber had a very poor game!

Olic continues to prove what a f'n beast he is! No wonder he's Bayern's #1 forward now despite probably being the less talented out of the whole bunch. The guy NEVER gives up! His tenacity, determination, work-rate and stamina is phenomenal! Only a 100% Rooney (so not today's) can probably match him among forwards in those departments anyway.

If Bordeaux had gotten that extra goal and they would've if it wasn't for some really great saves from France's #1, I could see them taking care of Bayern and meeting probably Barcelona in the finals as tobi predicted. Now with OL, I'm not as sure... it'll be a tight game between 2 good teams and could go either way and perhaps Bordeaux can focus on holding onto their French title which at the moment they're under huge pressure to do with 5 other competitors (Lyon being one of them) and would still be an AMAZING season!

The French league in general is mad exciting, especially this year.

Don't get me started on Pranjic ...
He had his share of caps during the season as a left back and on the left wing. What is there to say? He was terrible ALL the time.
Only decent game of him this year was the first leg against ManU replacing Schweini.
But, yeah, I think I'd still prefer him on the left and Badstuber in the center, where he belongs.

I see great potential in this Bayern team if they can keep Ribery. What Nerlinger needs to do is get in some decent CB's. It's funny if you think about it: They sold Lucio for 8 millions (my favorite player :() and youngster Mats Hummels for about 4 million Euros. Both of them do great in their new teams. A defense consisting of Lahm, Lucio, Hummels and a decent right/left back? I'd kill to see that! :D

Yeah Bayern's main problem is defense. But your goalkeepers aren't great either. For now, they've gotten the job done with some luck as well as some shaky moments. But a top goalie as well as some re-enforcements in defense like you said need to be made.
