What Larian Studios did with this game is nothing short of genius. They were confident in their own abilities, took all experience they gathered after Divinity Original Sin 1/2, improved upon all the mechanics and then bought a well known IP in order to put a spotlight on their new game. And then they found an amazing middle ground between true old school rpg and new welcoming gameplay.
...And they poured so much love into this game that you can feel it at every corner...
I have to say - I hated turn based combat. hated it. Heroes of Might and Magic lll was my last turn based game and it was traumatizing.
I bought this game well aware that I might be throwing my money away, but I wanted to support developers that are passionate about their games, coz there are not many of them left.
Its only been two days and I have nearly 15 hours on it already.
And I can say that Im pretty much converted now.
Love this game. It deserves its own thread. And it deserves GOTY.

I thought it was so immersive to play in the Forgotten Realms Universe, with all the classic fantasy elements! I actually really like Turn-Based games (as I grew up with the old PC Dungeons and Dragons games and the 90's and early 2000's Japanese RPG's, my favorite being Breath of Fire 4 for the PSX), and so I am looking forward to this. I like the fact that, looking at gameplay trailers, it seems like it really retains the spirit of the first two games (they could've gone the other way and try to make it like a lot of the modern action-adventure games, which I am not a huge fan of). This old-school, isometric feeling to it seems like it retains a lot of the same elements, just with more detail and updated graphics, but most importantly, conserving the overall feeling of the saga, which IMO is the right move.
