Arsenal Thread

Bottling a relatively straight forward (with the greatest of respect to Birmingham, a side you beat 3-0 away from home not that long ago) Cup final doesn't bode well in your pursuit of greater honours.

Media talk of a quadruple and Wenger's finished article was amusingly premature.

Of course reactions will be over the top and premature. In the eyes of the media especially! One day you're in heaven beating Barca, the other you're conceding a replay to Leyton Orient and a bit later you're bottling an "easy" final. Even though I still maintain, I knew this wouldn't be easy, Birmingham is a club which can now afford to have Oba Martins and Beausejour on the bench.

But that's the beauty of Cup football mate. On a regular basis, Arsenal are way superior, which is shown by our position in the league compared to theirs. And normally we would beat them 2 or 3-0. But at the end of the day, when it's all about only one match, anything can happen. They had their day, no doubt about it! And Arsenal was out of sorts... That's what it takes to lose an "easy" final... that AND a terrible cock up by our guys at the back :(

People are talking like Birmingham are a 2nd division side. They are still a premiership team and shit happens.

The media were the people talking up the quadruple stuff. I don't think any supporters/players/staff ever said anything along those lines?

Also Just because we lost this final, doesn't mean that this team are totally shit either and will not win things.

As I said before the real test for me is how they react to this loss. If they let it get to them, then they will need a kick in the nuts!

The fact that a couple of Man Utd fans are overreacting now, proves that they see Arsenal as a serious contender for the title.
The fact that Arsenal beat Barcelona, has made a big impression on them.
In my previous post, i was just pointing out the obvious (Rooney's elbow and the fact that he did get away with it in that match and that it changed the outlook of the match. Wigan were playing very well...). If that is perceived as hate, that says more about the perception of those people than over any suposed hate from my side...i don't hate persons, let alone a football club. If United deserve to win a match, i'm the first to concede that.
The win against Wigan was very far from undeserved, but the decision of a referee about Rooney's elbow made a huge difference...at that time United certainly weren't the better team.

In a fair world Rooney will get a ban of several matches for his elbow.

OFF TOPIC Sorry
Talking about Rooneys elbow when i saw it it was just OMFG!!...AND NO RED!!!!
When will EPL refs open eyes to these kind of things !!Disgusting!!

Well, gerd you would agree it`s not about Rooney or Mutd it`s the incident itself. Rooney is still a top player and Fergie is doing what any sensible Manager would do. It`s not like they show him the replay and ask him to respond like they did to Wenger

I blame the ref knowing he really didnt see it but gave a free kick most likely from fan spats. And to recant will admit more then he would allow. That was a shocking foolish attack and I hope it will stop w/ Rooney :COAT:

The post of mine you quoted doesn't really contradict anything you just said.

You've yet to learn the art of grinding out results when you play badly like we and Chelsea have done in past years, which is probably linked to the mental fragility that still lurks in your side and why you've got a reputation for being perennial bottlers.

The fact that a couple of Man Utd fans are overreacting now, proves that they see Arsenal as a serious contender for the title.
Huh? Most Man Utd fans have long since seen Arsenal as a serious contender for months, given Chelsea's collapse, Utd's poor away record and the general drop in quality at the top this season, with no real standout team in the league.

It's just that we don't think they're the finished article or have a team to battle on four fronts as the "flavour of the month" press was keen to point out after their defeat of Barcelona.

Well it was the tone of your post :PP

Saying the final should have been straight forward, when we are still playing a premiership side and how competitive the premiership has been this season.

We have been grinding out alot of results this season. Much more than usual, games we have been losing in past seasons we have been winning etc Maybe one of the reasons why the press have been saying what they have been saying?

The fact is Koscielny and Djourou have been growing stronger and stronger as a pairing and we have been looking much better defensively over the last couple of months. One fuck up and every jumps on the Defensive fragility stuff again. I'm not saying we have a great defence, but people are acting like Arsene hasn't tried to address the problem, when he bought in two new defenders etc.

Anyway, It's pointless arguing with a United fan, because i can't win either way. Because you can just point out what you have won over the seasons we haven't won anything and rightly so.

your post annoyed me anyway and that's why I posted. the way it was written aswell was supposed to put someones back up...whether you like to admit it or not :DD :PP

Well I apologise, it wasn't meant to sound like that.

I suppose it does show how the previously massive quality gap between the top 4 and the rest has shrunk, the last couple of seasons. But you've also drawn against lower division sides like Leeds, Leyton Orient, scraped past Huddersfield and lost to Ipswich, so clearly there is a problem there, perhaps a complacent mentality within the side?

I was more concerned back in 07/08 when you were grinding out results more often, the 1-0 win at West Ham with a rare RvP header comes to mind.

I don't think the defence is anywhere near as bad as it was the last few seasons but there are still one or two question marks. It's not as much a quality problem as it is a mentality problem.

No, this isn't a "my dad's harder than your dad" argument, it's attempting to give a proper assessment of where this Arsenal team is atm. It's strange because we and Chelsea are also in transition, so we can't really draw many concrete conclusions at this time. The end of the season will give us a much clearer idea of what lies ahead. Or not. :D

I still think Arsenal will win the league. Their run is a piece of piss relative to United's. They don't even have to beat United themselves - after the next 4 days (lovely having to go the Bridge and Anfield so close together, when both opponents will have had full weeks of rest) Arsenal should be able to go top. Then just continue to batter the crap teams.

I think 80 odd point will win the league this year, and that's very achievable from Arsenal.

If we can get through this week and remain on top then im confident we'll do it, both run ins are pretty similar after that.

Agree - but that requires us taking at least 4 points. I just don't see that as likely unfortunately.

Definitely have more hope for Anfield then the Bridge. We're utterly tosh in West London.

I dont think you even believe that! Mutd has given mutd supporters a distinguish outlook and incorporated arrogance . Most if not all feel Arsenal will slip . To quote the Bible.. a stone to stumble, a rock to fall, but those who trust will not be ashamed.

I see Mutd grinding out a pt if not all 3pts. Fulham gave Chels a tough time and should of won it from the penalty. Chels are on a decline slope and dropping rapid. Liverpool are too complicated to perceive they play very nice w/ good ball movement and still lost to WHU. Im sure their changing to a certain style of play maybe. Carroll may change it back to long ball again. I hope not I would love for Liverpool to play the way the game was design too .I`m not sure if Liverpool will get all 3 pts at home and a draw will suit them . I see Mutd getting 4 pts best or 2 pts worse case scenario.

Arsenal are in a better position than the other teams very comfy sitting in 2nd that to me is very dangerous. If wenger ever felt pressure to win the board should make it aware ,because I`m not convince Wenger is feeling pressure he might get a bump in pay for being in 2nd spot :COAT:

I guess we'll find out tonight, but I can't see us taking more than a point from these two. Which will let you jump back above us with Sunderland and West Brom as your next two. From there it'll get interesting I guess.

Moreso now that RVP is out. Sucks, really wanted you guys to beat Barca. Tough decision for Wenger now - I'd be tempted to play Walcott through the middle if he's fit. Barca fear pace, and neither Bendtner or Chamakh has any. :/

Crap!!!! I wanted to watch VP and Walcott live at the Camp Nou. I hope at least Cesc will play (I'm quite sure he will). I would love to see both teams at their top battling for the ball and enjoy one of the best matches that you can watch.

Of course I want Barcelona to win (we deserved to win in the first leg in my oppinion), but I want to win with the best players in the pitch. Still, Arsenal is favorite now and we will have to fight and play very very well (and specially don't waste so many chances again), no matter the players Arsenal put in the field.

Good luck and please, please, please, don't get any more injuries!!!!

Doesn't matter about our run compared to Man Uniteds with all the players injured we will probably struggle to win those games. Unless Chamack and Bendtner get their shooting boots on? but that isn't looking likely.

If we don't have Van Persie, Walcott and also Cesc out (or a just back from injury Cesc) then we will defo get bummed by Barca, which is also depressing. Why can't we just have an injury free season, or at least Squillaci and Eboue etc get injured instead of our main players

Oh well lets see :DD

I can't see how we are the favourites? you have an away goal and we have key injuries, so I think that Barca will still be the favourites to progress especially at the nou Camp. Even if Cesc is back he will have just come back from injury and Van Persie at the moment is our only goal threat unfortunately.

I find it hard to believe any Barca fan wanting to have a full squad going to Nou Camp :CONFUSE: . How is Arsenal favorites ? Messi n Xavi said they lost by accident

Well Man united lost.

What will Arsenal do against Sunderland? my bet is not win :)) I really hope I am wrong, but I can't help be pessimistic, especially with the injuries and such.

We need to win convincingly tomorrow and at the weekend for my gloom to lift at the moment.

Sure thing Bob ! FA Cup 1st then Sunderland . Funny I thought Mutd would win they looked hungry enough in the 1st half. Nani n Rooney diving gave me a few chuckles here n there . Luiz`s 2nd foul not given to Rooney who should of been suspended was priceless and Vidic getting a 2nd plus marching orders classic.

Saying that I hope Dowd won`t ref any of our matches yet!

what a car/ peach. (see jeremy clarkson)
if man utd win the next one, even if we win our two games, they'll still be on top with 1 pt. :)
injuries and arsenal are starting to be synonymous.

Hehe great reference. Atkinson is a Chelsea loving peach ;)

It's good for the neutral, and will make the title race more interesting. As predicted yesterday, United are going to get nothing from these 2 games. I didn't expect the refs to make it quite so obvious though!

well playing 4-2-2 and bully rough tactics somewhat of a surprise for the Champion team innit. Seeing Rooney, Nani and Hernandez just getting knock over repeatably , but both goals were sweet.

Did they play 2 men down then? It's always harder that way :D

It's funny to see United fans complaining about referees now, when their goal was scored by a guy who should've gotten a 3 match ban.
