Arsenal Thread

This is incredible night! I love MY Arsenal :BOP: This win means more than the first leg. It gives us belief for the league.... Yeah ! We have to go there sure but not tonight

@VanderVoort  go on son... my sunshine is too bright to hide :BOP:

What a great victory for the gunners. ARSHAVIN!!!

Of course Clichy would be suspect yet again but that was great character from the players to come from behind to win it. High pressure stifled Barcelona and what a sweet strike from RvP.

Let the players celebrate they came back from a goal down to win the match. Against the best Team in the World!!! ffs Listen to Cesc n Robin they were very humble even they said it`s only 45min played not nearly over.

Go on bob !!

Congrats Guys. Arsenal were really great: bravery, win-mentality, and before that great tactic & attractive football. I must say I enjoyed the match despite the loss. We weren't on our best today, but wish we can return the favor on Nou Camp ;)

Koscielny and Wilshere were brilliant. Second half we deserved our win overall.

Even though Barca in the first half were passing it around for fun we matched them for actual chances on goal. The second half we were much the better team imo.

Second leg will be completely different though, they hav ethe away goal. But I am living in hope and praying, we are more than capable of scoring there, but they are more than capable of scoring hundreds at their place.

Great night, great game....loved it! :DD

That's SIcK! :D

And yah Koscielny (especially 2nd half) and Jack were immense.

Wilshere played PERFECT! lol. I don't think he put a foot/pass/turn/tackle wrong all game! 10/10 performance!

Fantastic result for Arsenal. Congratulations for all Arsenal fans.
As much as i love Barcelona, now i would prefer Arsenal go through (A CL final Spurs-Arsenal...no maybe not because Arsenal would win by a large margin).

Wishere and Koscielny were great.
Song had a difficult start, flirted with a red card (second yellow), but IMO he was fantastic in the second half. Song came in the match and to me that was the turning point.

Of course Barcelona missed lots of chances and Messi was average (too selfish). But Nasri can only get better and in Barcelona Van Persie will have more space upfront and with Piqué missing...one never knows.

Calm down Gerd, no need to spam! :P

I think tactically Arsenal did well also. Everyone knows Barca tires in the second half (it's just not possible to keep up the tempo in the first half) and that's when you can get at them. Same happend last season at the Emirates. As long as you can contain them in the first half and let them tire themselves out you always have a chance imo. Physically the English teams should have the upperhand in these games as they are used to running about and playing at 100mph and can do it for a full 90min. Barca's double edged sword I would expect, is that in most matches they are home and dry after 60min and can relax.

Can't wait for the 2nd leg. :D

In my oppinion, the result was unfair. We deserved at least a draw and should have scored 2 or 3. The disallowed goal was a pivotal moment in the game, but the most critical thing was the terrible moves done by Guardiola.

As last year in San Siro, we lost the match because instead of going up and kill the enemy Pep decided to be deffensive. Putting Keita for Villa is the most stupid thing he could have done. Watching the match live I said to my friend "This is going to cost us the game".

Wenger played his cards and went offensive and I'm glad he did that and won. I hate cowards, so I hate when my team ceases the efforts. We did it last year at this same stadium, we did it at San Siro and yesterday.

Guardiola is a great coach, really, and I appreciate him a lot, but in the big matches it seems he's never in control, either the team plays great from start or he doesn't know how to change the match. In the other side, Wenger tried suicide but succeed. I'm glad football rewards bravery.

I don't want to sound too harsh to Barcelona, though, we played a good match and we were unlucky. The referee didn't help at all in key moments, but big teams must be over this. Messi was (strangely) too selfish and inaccurate, Iniesta was very poor and Maxwell didn't know where the match was being played.

Not having Pique in the 2nd leg is very important. I said before the match that Arsenal could win and we were no favorites. I still think we are no favorites and Arsenal is the only team that can beat us playing at the same sport.

Other than that... what a great match for spectators! The best match of the year in footballing terms. So congrats to fans of both teams. That's how we love this sport.

PS: I forgot to add that to me the best footballers on the pitch were Abidal and Wilshere. If Barcelona is to spend 40 M€ we would better sign him instead of any other Arsenal player. He was key for Arsenal the whole match and impressed me to no end.

Good win, had a feeling you'd do them over at the Emirates, albeit with the aid of a couple of poor ref and Pep decisions. But I think if you'd got a third, like Inter last year, you'd have been strong favourites to go through.

Will be interesting how this one pans out.

Well done guys, great comeback.

Thought Koscielny and Wilshere were outstanding.

I still think Barca are big favs going into the 2nd leg though as they are incredible at Nou Camp.

I think to get through you would need Barca to have another off night, your defence to stay resolute, as well as the officials who had an off night too though, maybe another decision or two to swing Arsenal's way can come into play in the return.

Pique being out is a boost though, although guess they will have Puyol back and last time they played they had 2 reserve centre-halfs in and still won easily.

Yeah but last time Arsenal had Silvestre as a center back and Almunia in goal. My man of the match was the keeper, Sczczney, absolutly immense. Stayed big for the first Messi chance forcing him to dink it over him and wide. Very good to force Daniel Alves wide at the end and then saving with his toe from Messi.

On the other hand Valdez was woeful, to be beaten like that at the near post is shocking. With Valdez in nets for them you should have a chance of scoring.

Yeah possibly, although think Barca are better now as well though with Villa up front and Iniesta didn't play last time as did Puyol. I actually think Valdez is an excellent goalie, poor for the RVP goal though.

But I guess the chance is there, but think Barca will possibly get a big score against them again.

They did it!! :)
Fantastic match! Wilshere, Kos, Szcezny, those guys are turning out to be amazing! With Szcezny between the sticks I don't feel that panic I used to feel with Fabianski and Almunia. The boy seems a lot more consistant, and at 19, he has what it takes to be a legendary keeper at his peak.

RvP was having a day off with his finishing until his goal. Credit to him for gambling on Valdez's early decision.
Nasri and Arshavin were very important in the second goal, both of them quite cold blooded, especially our Russian :)

Barcelona are still favourites, but now I can actually see Arsenal going through. It's different team from last season's and if we can reach the 2nd leg on March 8th again at full strength, we have a very good chance to upset the odds.
Cmon Arsenaaaaaaaaaal :)

Bravo Arsenal! This is a great victory. I hope in the return match they show the same or even better game and will take place in the quarterfinals. We also not can not see a "Shava" that his goal at 83 minutes and brought victory to Arsenal.:D

wilshere would make a better captain.
barca bought affelay he can play (winger and) CMF, right? why the fuck go to them when it's clear there's no chance to play?! just like in the WC with Spain.

“I don’t have the inclination to go anywhere. This is the best team for me to be in. The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. I know you can win trophies in many countries and in many ways, but I want to do that in our way and in an Arsenal shirt.

“I’m sure I could win things at another team in another country, but would it feel like our trophy, my trophy? I’m not sure it would. Anything we win here will come from the heart and that’s what I want. It’s my dream and I see no point in speaking about other teams when I have these dreams. I think other people know that about me; I’m just hungry to win with Arsenal and that’s it.

“It’s a massive game against Birmingham in the Carling Cup final, just massive. Going to Wembley in front of 90,000 fans, lifting that trophy, just imagine it!

“I know what everyone’s feeling having not won anything for a few years — how I’m feeling, the fans, everybody connected with this place.

“Making other people happy by winning the competition our way would make me so proud. We can make such a great number of people happy.”
