Arsenal Thread

Could do with a draw today with Spurs vs Chelsea as in reality I think a draw is the best result we are going to get tomorrow. I really hope we can do more and stamp our mark on the premiership fr sure, but at Old trafford and Man united having alot of their players back is alot to ask I think....especially with our dodgy defending.

Draw or a Chelsea win today....I have alot of Spurs supporters coming over for xmas, so we definately need to be above them in the league by xmas day. :DD

Thing is.... All you hear is Chels vs MUTD !!! which one will take the crown. Arsenal isn`t even mention! in everyone`s eyes Arsenal are not even contenders .Arsenal wont win w/ flappy n no vermaelen fair enough ,but ManCity is getting into gear.

Another headline "to snood or Not to snood" it seems to me snoods are doing the business Nasri, chamakh and Toure . I notice Max Rodriguez not wearing his snood and no goal. He needs his snood back

Perfect result now we need to do our bit :DD....here's hoping.

on the issue of snoods, If their little necks are cold, then why not? as long as the players that wear them play well ;))

I've got squeeky bum time already thinking about our central defence :(

Indeed, I think we are either going to win or we are going to get beaten badly again

I hope Arshavin and Nasri are on form, then we have every chance. But yes depending on Man United's mood, they could take advantage of our defence. Especially Clichy against Nani, he needs to be on top of his game completely.

COME ON ARSENAL!!!

We need Diaby to stay out of the game (remember last season) :P
Apart from that, we're fine as long as there aren't any major fuckups by Koscienly and Pshyco-Squilla.

A good sign is that Nasri, who's in astonishing form now, loves to deliver the goods against Mutd.

A draw wouldn't be too bad to be honest, although I can sense Theo coming on near the end and causing mayhem :)

Two stunning counter-attacking goals but I doubt we'll see anything like that from us tonight. Both were away games so the impetus was on Arsenal to attack.

A good sign is that Nasri, who's in astonishing form now, loves to deliver the goods against Mutd.

Correct me if I'm wrong, he's only actually scored or played particularly well in that one game at Emirates where you won 2-1, can't think of another game where he did anything of note? That said he's in great form and really showing his worth so I wouldn't be surprised if he did us some damage tonight!

How many long balls can this side send . Rooney`s missed pen say it all a harsh pen at that. We defended well I thought , our starting line up was shocking. What for the life of me can not get is Fletcher runs to web and pushes him and not even see yellow. Mutd won but they don`t play good football they look like a Bolton side of old.

You lot were shockingly crap (We weren't great by stretch of the margin either!) You could barely complete any passing moves and seemed very predictable, We really should have won by a bigger margin had Nani and Anderson not fluffed their chances.

Very disappointed with this result.
I'm the last to say that Man Utd don't deserve their successes, when a team has won that much, it is no coïncidence. So congratulations to United.

But this is bad for football. As a neutral, you can enjoy watching teams like Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea (last season and at the beginning of the season), and even lesser teams who can play attractive football (Sevilla, Deportivo, Ajax and Red Star Belgrade come to my mind, although this is all some years ago). What is attractive about the football of Man Utd? Watching paint dry or grass growing is more exciting than watching Man Utd play football...On top of that this seems the weakest Man Utd side since Ferguson took over.

Nevertheless: well done United i suppose.

Very poor show by the gunners today. When are they going to learn that all the passing in the world means nothing if you don't convert your chances. Also, when is this team going to start using Chamakh? Someone tell Wenger Chamakh is actually very good at heading in crosses, although that is another issue altogether considering our shocking wide play and delivery.

Ballbags said it all really. I'd like to add 'bag-o-shite'.

One effort of note in the first half, but we should rightly be seen as perenial chokers.

Wenger either cannot motivate this team for big matches, or a change in personel is needed where a real leader on the pitch lifts these overpaid idiots by the scruff of their neck. Please Wenger, don't blame the pitch for Christs sake - you're building your reputation as a whinger. Just state that we were crap. The sooner the players hear it, the better. With the current team, i think he has taken them as far as they can go.

Reports comparing Parks goal to Hernandez' are funny. Looks like Park was actually trying to get out the way.

Even then, piss poor by Arsenal. I'm glad i wasn't one of those who travelled up to OT last night.

5 losses already this season?? And i thought he was working on our weaknesses from the time Utd handed us our ass in the CL semi final.

*sorry, pissed off - rant over*

At least you have a decent keeper, the boy was exceptional at Brentford last year on loan and should have been given his chance earlier, obviously league one isn't the same level as the Premier League, but he was saving shots left right and center at Griffin Park. Almunia is a waster and Fabiansky is only really good for the bench.

You're missing Vermalen a fair bit and Fabregas shouldnt have travelled up to Salford, he wasn't fully fit, couldnt do anything when he came one. Van Persie as well didn't look anything like fully fit. Still if there is a draw at the bridge and you beat Stoke by 2-3 goals you'll be level at the top and only 2-3 goals behind them, City will be on the same number of points too if they beat Everton on the Monday.

You've played what are on paper your most difficult away games:

Liverpool
Man City
Chelsea
Man Utd

Aside from a trip to White Hart Lane, that's all the really difficult away games gone and you're still hovering very much around the top spot. All the others in and around the top have much more difficult away games in their run ins.

I thought this was the game that Arsenal would play like "We are here, and we're gonna win it all this year!!!", but instead all we got was "oh pretty please United, can you let us win?" - "no"...

It was bad. It seems like Wenger jsut doesn't pay any attention to other teams tactics. Ferguson looked at the way we play and completely stifled us, he used differing tactics to beat us and it worked very well.

Wenger on the other hand just seems to say play as you play and all the rest will come together?! which works alot of the time, but in big important games, you need alot more.

But we are still in the title race, so it's not all bad. But we really need to pick ourselves up and get ploughing into the season.

If we lose against Chelsea at the Emirates and play as bad as yesterday, then there really is no hope for us this season in the league.

As long as the other big teams are loosing points there is hope, even after a loss against Chelsea...it's too soon to loose hope now.
I'm not convinced by United, Chelsea, Man City or Spurs...so why could Arsenal not win the title?

Both sides made a lot of silly mistakes last night.

The thing we notice quite a bit when we play Arsenal is that they seem to drop the fluid passing game and try to match us on the physical aspect - hence the number of fouls by Arsenal in the first half. In the second half they seemed to slow down, picking passes and looking more likely to get back into it.
That said we're not too bad at playing through teams either (we had a couple of one touch passing sessions last night to prove it), though it usually goes unnoticed. (just an observation, not a dig!)

Some credit should also go to the United backline. IMO they were the reason for you not being as effective as usual.
