Arsenal Thread

Hmm, that was the famous match where he didn't miss a single pass. That was quite good! But then again I still maintain my opinion: even if he completes 100/100 passes, he would still be at fault if he let in a goal like that in the same match... He has to be constantly reminded of the defensive burden his position carries. Either that or change his position to a more offensive one.

It's not like he's rubbish, he has obvious technical qualities. And I also like his mid/long range shooting, which he should be doing more. But he's one of the guys who need a good bollocking to understand that to wear The Arsenal shirt it takes a lot of effort as well.

Oopsy, you're right

Wilshere was fantastic apart from that silly mistake (although it was too soft a penalty). He created a lot of chances there and showed he can be a tremendous playmaker. Rosicky was quality in that aspect as well.

But I still think Arshavin is perhaps the main offensive brain. No one is more incisive than him in that squad. Nevermind accusations of laziness, the man has moments of brilliance and sheer class, like that back heel to Walcott and the through ball to Chamakh a day before that.

Even though BobbyBox puts him in the same bunch as Denilson and Diaby, I think Arshavin can afford to look out of sorts sometimes. Because when he's on his day he's a match winner. I wouldn't say it's laziness in terms of workrate, because he does pressure high up the pitch and fight for the ball against guys twice as big as him. It's just being on really bad days, not producing and being unable to get into a mach. Diaby and Denilson, on the other hand, bring too little to the table. And the fact that they play more defensive roles, not tracking back and busting their guts really gets on my nerves.

To sum it up, Arshavin is a special player, really really dangerous; while the other two are just peasants. Sorry to disagree with you on this one, BobbyBox :)

You can disagree with me, I don't mind :))

I only put Arshavin with Denilson and Diaby because they are all inconsistant and can lack motivation sometimes. But Denilson and Diaby are much better players than you suggest, especially Diaby has the potential to be very good indeed, but he needs to show it every game.

There is no doubt that Arshavin is a key player for us, when he is playing well. But when he is not, he doesn't give 100%. But he can change a game in a moment of brilliance which is invaluable. I like Arshavin, but I do question his commitment at times.

Denilson is a water carrier in the same mould as players like Busquets or Carrick. Diaby on the other hand I agree has the potential to be a very good player, he's 24 know so I think he needs to start showing it more on a consistent level.

The thing with Diaby is exactly that he's already 24... I hope he's one of those players who really flourish later, maturing around 26 years old. However, I have the feeling he's an eternal promise. Most players already show signs of maturity and real quality at that age. But Diaby still has miles to evolve in many aspects. His first touch is often clumsy and although he's a big fella, he doesn't use his body too well.

We saw signs of improvement last season but we don't know for how long Wenger can keep waiting for him to come good.

I still have hope he will come good. But you are right if he doesn't start performing soon then I think he will be moved on.

But this season is going to be key for him to really stake a claim. Especially with Fabregas more or less leaving next year. Lets hope he can step up.

Rumored to be heading our way maybe before the photo shoot on Thursday

Emir Spahić (CB) 29yrs. doesn`t seem like a typical prospect of Arsene I just hate to think a player quotes aren`t made up.

The most important thing is that so far the negotiations go as planned and that the transfer could be completed soon.

Arsenal is a great club, I’m an admirer of Arsene Wenger and I hope that Montpellier will cooperate

Spahic would be a very good player for Arsenal.
An older player who could be the perfect complement for Vermaelen
I hope for Arsenal that this is not a false rumour. Great player.

Heard a rumour though that they have smacked a $23mill price on his head because Arsenal are after him

Well boby, i don't want to start another discussion like the one we had about Cesc/Barcelona.
But.

Can you blame a litle club like Montpellier who overachieved massively last year and risk loosing quite a few of their good players?

But i hope he can come to Arsenal, because i rate him high and i want Arsenal to see as title contenders....

I can't blame them, but it is ridiculous.

£23 million for a young defender who is considered to be one of the best in the world or will be very soon? then £23mill wouldn't be that laughable.

But for this guy? (not saying he isn't good, but he is old)

If it is to keep him at the club then fair enough, but if it is to get a stupid amount of money for him, then they obviously don't know Wenger or Arsenal as we don't usually pay ridiculous amounts for that type of player. If Man City were in for him then maybe :))

Anyway it was a rumour, probably isn't true.

Weird to see him speaking about a deal ...quotes makes you thing something is brewing. Let`s hope Arsene is do the business one thing for sure he hates for media to get btw the bidding anything is possible w/ a french club lol

On other news Fab is back and hopefully the reception made him feel warm n fuzzy

booo! Spurs got Swiss team young boys in their qualification game for Champs league.

Probably the easiest draw they could have got. I was hoping that they would get knocked out before the group stages, that would have been funny.

Anyway, young boys beat Fenerbache in Turkey to get through to this round so it might still be possible ;))

On another note, Fabregas is supposed to be releasing a statement soon, hopefully it will stop all the big mouthed barca players for a while.

Fair play to Arsenal for sticking to their guns and fair play for Fabregas not making a fuss about not getting his move.

Sounds eerily like the same statement Ronaldo made I wouldn't take much notice of it.

We all know he is going next season. I don't think anybody is thinking he will now stay with us forever?

I'm sure this year, Wenger will be seeing if anybody at the club can do an effective job in that role, or he will be lining up a replacement.

I just hope we can have a season without all the Barcelona bullshit cropping up again. I doubt it, but I hope.

Lets just see when the January transfers happen and we will get Puyol et al saying how much they want Fabregas on the end of their dicks, because god said so.

Actually, even though too many barcelona players have mouthed too much this summer, Puyol never said anything. The things he was presumed to have said ended up being a lie of the sun, as the players put a legal threat to the newspaper and they recongized it. So, it ends up even the english newspapers were playing the same game after all.

I'm glad Fab stays at Arsenal a year and he didn't make any scandal against the club. I prefer him to be at Barcelona, if possible, next year, as I stated many times, and it's the best solution for everybody it seems. So I really hope you take profit of him and finally you can take some silverware!!!

I take it back about puyol then (although he did the shirt prank). Anyway as you said hopefully we do well this season and then we sell him to barca for loadsa Money!

Apparantly we were 3-0 down by the 30th minute?!

What a comeback! ;)) 5-6 now thats a game I would have liked to watch.

Hopefully our defence will have got all of the crapness out of their system in that game, ready for the premiership :DD

And again a blooper by Flappyanski, we need a new goalieeeeee  !!!

With him under the bar, a corner against Arsenal is a certain goal. It's ridiculous. When he does manage to catch the ball he drops it onto someone else's head, and so on... He always manages to cock it up.

Lukasz is shite, old news. We've been pointing this out for the past 2 seasons. AW will keep this set of keepers at his own peril.

Cock ups like these will cost a title FFS! What became of that old football saying "a great side begins with a great keeper"?

he can't be our number one for the season.

I would rather have the young guy in goal that I can't pronounce (or spell) his name, in goal at the moment.

I would rather have Almunia in goal than Fabianski at the moment.

Fabianski is shot to pieces, he has no confidence and no command of the area. Until he rectifies both of these he will never be a good keeper.

But you have yourself a catch-22 there. The only way he can get confidence back is to play games but we aren't prepared to play him because he may make mistakes, and because he makes mistakes because of a lack of confidence we can't loan him out or sell him to clubs playing at a sufficient enough standard for him to prove his ability.

And it's not just the keeper that's the problem. It's a lack of cohesion and communication between the entire back-line, although it is of course part of a keeper's job to marshall the defence. It's all well and good bemoaning Almunia and Fabianski, but there are big mistakes caused by the defensive unit as a whole. Look at the match against Spurs towards the end of the season, look at the first leg against Barcelona (and also the second leg). Sure we can keep bringing in defenders who, individually, are excellent defenders but that doesn't fix the problem - just look at Atletico Madrid, they suffer a similar kind of persistent defensive/keeping problem as us but on a more crippling scale.
