Arsenal Thread

Why Diaby to leave? The lad has clear potential I think. Denilson is a bit average but nothing wrong with being a squad player.

If we had to choose between Diaby and Denilson, I would definately go for Diaby to stay.

He has shown in some games he can be so influential, if he can just be consistant, then I think he will be a great player.

Denilson can be a good player, but I think Diaby has the potential to be a great player.

LOL 2:1 to blackburn so far. their 2nd goal was a corner aimed 3yards away from goal and our gk still couldn't get it LOL pathetic

Truth be told, the team acted as though they didn't give a fuck for the last 3 matches. I think many players don't.

Floppyhandski again, again, again and again. How many more times, Wenger? FFS, the man is the biggest liability I've seen wearing an Arsenal shirt.

He is shit AND was fouled on both Blackburn goals. That Samba dude was there nudging him, even pushing with this arms, on both goals. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the keeper was untouchable inside the small box. Those guys were pushing him inside the goal, for crying out loud!

I don't even know why I bothered watching and posting here. It was a nothing match agains a nothing team, one of those teams that play something similar to football, but not quite the same sport. This is fucking disappointing.

I have a feeling that they're gonna let the Spuds take the 3rd. What do you guys think?

spurs to overtake us? if that happens will you fucking arsenal fans start asking for wengers head?

Anyways that shit wont happen and i mean ever. fuck that for a laugh.

City will win, it`s a home game. If we win at home which is reasonable even a draw would put us above, no worries. If I was an Arsenal player I would be very worried, justification without presentation and 3 games is enough to make a reasonable judgment.

I`m really not concern w/ City or Spurs . Arsenal had lost their passing game which left defenders nervous and now its too predictable. I`m optimistic and say 3rd spot is secure ,but some players will leave before being asked to. :BYE:

It's not an impossible thing to happen with this shitty attitude these players have been showing. It's unacceptable, they didn't care for the last 3 games. Especially that Wigan game. It's the stuff that makes us wanna see heads rolling. If Wenger doesn't take out the trash, it may fucking well be his head rolling soon.

No.

If spurs don't take us over will you shut the fuck up whenever we lose and stop spouting off the same old shit ;))

We need a keeper which lately seems to be the problem of conceding the recent goals. There was no reason to think Almunia would have been shit from the season before. We need a new keeper along with maybe two other players and people to stop being injured.

I think there is more chance of us being over taken by Tottenham, if we lose Wenger. Who are we going to get that is as highly regarded as wenger? who are we going to get to play the style of football we have been accustomed to? and believe me if we get rid of Wenger players like Fab will not stick around and other players of higher calibre will not come to us.

I do believe howether that Wenger needs to address the issues over the summer, if he doesn't act on what is now painfully obvious and we have a shit season next season. Then I might start thinking we need a new manager, but until then, he needs to stay and for the good of Arsenal as a hole :DD

So now you could be losing third spot to Spurs? Imagine that.

Spurs have to win both there next games to do that though. Both are away and the first against Man City.

We have to win or draw against Fulham to make sure of being above them. Of course it is possible and if it happens spurs will deserve it. But Fulham will have an eye on the europa cup im sure. So hopefully our players buck up their ideas.

Anyway at the beggining of the season the majority of people were questioning whether we would even be in the top four and up to a couple of weeks ago we were still challenging for the title.

Again if Wenger doesn't make some positive buys in the transfer window, and we fail to mount a challenge and don't do well next season, then I might think of a change of management. But until then lets wait and see.

Back to spurs, they will have to get above us in the league at some point, if you consider the amount of money they have spent over the years, they should have been where they are now along time ago. So there is really no shame if we do lose out on 3rd to them.

They will be gloating of course, but then we can laugh at them when they get knocked out of the champions league :))

I keep saying morinho but you fail to read my suggestions. i couldnt give two fucks if we stopped playing sexy football and start winning trophies because thats what makes a team succesful, not the amount of passes you can make. have you not fucking watched the barca vs inter game?

guess not.

can't argue with that. But given the transition Wenger had to make with the departure of Hleb, Flamini, Gilberto, Toure, and Adebayor (5 consistent starters mind you), and the persistent injuries of Eduardo, RvP, Rosicky, Walcott, and Gallas, we've coped quite well. When they get injured, who do we have left? Diaby and Denilson in the middle of the park with Silvestre still managing to start games somehow. I'm still a big fan of Nasri, but I feel that he needs to improve much more or just give us 200% perfomances instead of behaving so casually all the time. My point is that we need some more solidity and depth in our squad, because we've already seen many times what happens when Song, Fab, RvP, and Gallas go missing. The team just loses its spine because they're the last remants of the invincibles. I have a feeling Wenger senses the same thing, hence the signing of Campbell even at age 35. Please Wenger, get us some real ironmen and not a bunch of Arjen Robbens whose bodies will give out before the season's even half over.

I'm still not letting 2008-2009 slide, because we really should have spent in those transfer windows.

I would hate to have Mourinho at Arsenal. I don't neccesarily want success if it is at the expence of the way we play football. I would like to have both. I think we have been successful for being one of the top teams in the league year after year, qualifying for the champions league year after year after spending a fraction of alot of the big clubs in both compititions have over the years. We are one of the most successfully run clubs in the world. That can be seen by our place in the table of richest clubs even though we haven't won anything for a while.

I've said my piece in the barca thread, but the way Inter played in that second leg was fucking dire and I would rather poke my eyes out than watch my team play like that.

I used to watch Arsenal in the 1-0 to the Arsenal days with George Graham. At the time it was nice winning. But fuck me I went to see some fucking awful games. Even though we were winning back then, we are at a different level now. Our football is regarded as one of the most attractive in the world, we have a top class manager, a wonderful stadium, a decent board that hasn't sold our souls (...yet!).

I don't care what anybody says as long as Wenger keeps trying and doing his best for Arsenal (that is also shown by what he does in this years transfers) and we keep competing I am happy to keep going for another couple of years without winning and see where Wenger takes us, because i think we are not very far off and a successful period (in terms of medals :PP) is just around the corner.

Anyway bottom line for me is, I don't think the success you crave for is the success I crave for, maybe I am on my own? but at the moment Wenger has taken us to another level and I think he can make us even better.

No mate wenger has taken us down a few levels since we went the whole season unbeaten. Come on we could in theory blow 3rd and come 4th by the end of the week. how is that taking us to another level? thats a huge downgrade for me especially the fact that spurs could finish above us.

I meant we are on another level than we were at in George Grahams era. Yes we won things but not like we have won things with Wenger in charge. ~We have done it in style and have the respect (on the whole) of alot of other football fans. We qualify for the biggest cup competition in the world every season and do reasonably well in it nearly every season.

I think he will take us to another level in the future. I'm not saying that he has done it right now. But we have everything in place to be winning things again soon. You could say we have done better than last season (this with all the injuries aswell).

If Wenger didn't have all the problems with injuries this season and he did shit and failed to recongnise it and say he isn't buying anybody and he is sticking with the team next season, then yes maybe I might start questioning him.

But he did have a ridiculous amount of injuries (that is a whole other debate about that and whos fault it is) and we didn't do to great this season, but he has acknowledged that and sounds like he is going to try and remedy that in the summer.

His faith in some of our younger players has not been repaid and he needs to wipe the slate and get rid of some dead wood and get in some quality. I think he has the balls to do it and I hope he does.

Spurs used to win things (its hard to believe but it happened :DD) and they had a very good team. They have finished above us before and they will do it again. You need to stop being fixated with that. If spurs get above us then they get above us, they were the better team. but I think our future no matter if spurs get 3rd or not is alot brighter than theirs.

Getting rid of Wenger isn't magic, we wont instantly become better and win things. Like even if we get a goalkeeper and other players we think we need, we wont necessarily win the league etc. If we get a new manager they are still going to have the same injury problem, and that is the biggest thing that has been hampering Wenger over the last few years IMO.

You just need to wait and see, people have been spoilt with the success we had late 90's early 2000's. What if the next manager we get isnt good? then we sack him the next season etc etc. We then become a Real madrid/chelsea that is mercenary and has 10 managers in 10 seasons. That isn't good for anybody.

I think we are heading in the right direction, people need to chill out.

I'm with bobby, I prefer sticking to a personal style. At long term, you're more eager to win than changing your style to fit someone else's. Mourinho totally fits the Inter style of play and the players they have. Yet he was quite lucky overall against Barcelona. They played very well deffensively, but that's it. I would watch an Arsenal game everyday instead of an Inter game, and even if Arsenal won't win any cup this year, I still rate their football higher than Inter.

I know it's donw to personal likings, though. But I think Arsenal has found a kind of "personality" with Wenger, the same way Barcelona changed forever with Cruyff and the netherlands style of play. I think having a personality as a club is more important than silverware. Mainly because you can't always win, and when you have personality you are proud even if you lost.

We lost against Inter, and we could have played much much better, but we are produ of the team for playing all the season as they play, even if we don't win the league title at the end.

It's an old debate and people is free to prefer one thing over the other. But it would be a pitty if Arsenal looses all they have now for a coach that is basically a poor human being and a great tactician.

All you need is Wenger spending the money on some expert and top players and have luck with injuries. You already have the most difficult qualities, you're only lacking some details.

I'm surprised with everyone thinking about needing a new goalkeeper, defenders and defensive midfielders that noone has mentioned wanting a new striker.

RvP is never gonna complete a full season, Bendtner and Eduardo are shite, Vela is shite and Chamakh isn't an out and out goalscorer either.

People haven't mentioned it because of Chamakah. Bendtner isnt shite IMO and will only get better. But yes Eduardo is a shadow of the player he was before the break and vela isn't going to get better for us anyway (think he might need to try a different country to play in).

But we were scoring goals throughout the team this season. So it would be nice to get another striker. But a striker is the least of our worries at the moment.

I agree absolutely with you Bobby (again, what's wrong with us...).

And if Spurs would be third (i honestly don't believe this will happen this year), you can't say they (we) deserved it because Spurs had a very good season and is defintely closing the gap with the top 4. I also think it would be better for Arsenal is SPurs would have a CL place than Man City. If City are in the CL they willl be champion contenders from next season on.

Knowing Spurs, if they play CL they will fail in both te Premiership and the CL. A team who is capable of loosing one of the most important matches against Portsmouth is always a laibility...

I thought Chamakh was an out and out striker? Looked that way in the CL, but tbh haven't seen much else of him.

Also stand by my opinion that Bendtner is going to be a very good striker one day, probably soon.

Arsenal are a weird one because on paper the squad looks good, goalkeeper aside. You can't make signings assuming injuries happen, and would Gallas/Vermalen really be satisfied as 3rd choice? Maybe you could use one more CB for that role, but generally the CB pairing play the vast majority of matches together. In midfield you have a huge number of players that all play nominally CMF (Cesc, Song, Diaby, Denilson, Nasri, Wilshere, Ramsey) and Wenger seems to like a 3 of them. Up front you've got a pretty good group too, despite Eduardo's failings (and I would argue he was never actually that good to start with, but that's for another day).

But even if you get Buffon/Lloris, I still don't see you winning the league. Can't work out why. It would be great for football (especially if City and Chelsea are right behind you, as I fear they'll both be up there next year) but doesn't seem that likely. :(

He said an out and out goal-scorer, not striker, Ryan. ;) He is definitely a striker as you justly thought. :)

Chamakh is a great player! Has finally fulfilled the potential we knew he had since an early age as he's improved dramatically (in particular his consistency which was the biggest concern) over the past couple years. I'm very jealous but proud of Arsenal and Wenger for getting him for free! Because other clubs will go and easily spend about $14-$18M on this type of player and not necessarily even get what they're looking for.

Anyway with Aguero supposedly heading to Chelski, and you guys getting Chamakh, I'm just a little more excited as an EPL fan for next season! :D Makes the league a little more quality and more fun to watch.

EDIT: Oh and about all the stuff recently talked about here, I'm with Bobby. Though not necessarily because of the whole 'beautiful' football thing (though that's nice to see for neutrals like me) but winning and being effective in my book is always much more important, but because I, too, think your best chances OF actually winning and silverware, is still with Wenger in charge and not someone else anyway. Can't really think of someone else who could come in at Arsenal and replace Wenger properly. If anything, then I can see the likes of Cesc moving on and Arsenal isn't truly able to attract the world's best talent either.

Now if Wenger was to again fail to strengthen the squad the way it needs, like he's sometimes been guilty of in the past (and I agree with that) and Arsenal were to have a bad season, then, his position needs to be considered more seriously.
