Arsenal Thread

Apparently a top 4 club is in for Craig Gordon of Sunderland and it's rumoured to be Arsenal, he's a good keeper, better than Almunia anyway.

I can't believe Wigan came back to win that game today, what a fucking weekf for Arsenal

i'm not crazy, but the result is actually good.
we don't have any more chances for the league and we will surely end up 3rd.
so, this loss will serve as a catharsis.

it's pretty clear what AW says. and i hope he will keep the promise.
IMO 8 mil for Heart is too much, why not Frey or Akinfeev.
let's hope for a good campaign and a better new season.
tc811, i agree. Vermaelen is very good, but we need a bully or two still.

In Wenger we trust.

8m for Hart would be better than Almunia either way you look at it. No offense to our current GK, but we just need something better. I'm all for Frey or Akinfeev, but either choice seems rather costly. Gooners sit tight, it's only getting better as long as AW stays in charge. Even though we lost almost half of a senior squad in one season, we still managed to score a shitload of goals.

That epitomises the current state of affairs. This must be the worst set of GK's Arsenal has ever had. We could keep Almunia to be a reserve, but we need to buy someone like Akinfeev and kick Fabianski's butt. He always cocks it up at the end and I don't know what AW saw in him really. It's time for Fabianski to think about things he can do well in his life. Goal keeping is not of them. He's 24 or 25 (not a kid anymore) and playing for a top side in big matches (what can motivate him more?) and still he fails every time!

Arsene Wenger was as lethargic as the team today IMO. The hour mark had passed and it was clear we needed a change. He didn't do nothing and only put RVP when it was already 2-2. Bad bad performance from team and manager.

And what about this masturbating approach to offensive football? Diaby and Walcott had clear cut chances to score today, but opted to pass the ball aside. This has to do with Wenger's philosophy of over-elaborating attacks but it's frustrating and ineffective. Sorry for repeating myself and others here, but Chelsea and United would've banged in 4 or 5 before the hour mark.

I hope Wenger feels the pressure and unsettlement for winning fuck all again, so that he changes things around. Fans and players won't be pleased with another trophyless season. Fabregas' pledge in that Nike ad at the beginning of the season springs to mind.

If true a VERY good move by Arsenal.

A established international(even if it's Scotland) Wenger has been admiring him when he was a visitor to Hampden when Scotland played France.

The only other team would be Man United IMO as VDS is almost retired and as for

This is quite interesting:

http://goonertalk.com/2010/04/19/picture-arsenals-net-spending-in-premier-league-era-is-32m/

Net spending of under £1.8m per season and still at least challenging is impressive. You can help but think what might happen once the stadium debt is under control completely. This isn't a complete picture of course, it doesn't make any mention of player wages.

Chelsea's obscene spending is no surprise, but it is mental when you see it written down like that. £558m! :CONFUSE:

It's also crazy that Spurs have spent well over £100m more than us since the EPL started.

Interesting this reflecting from buying, selling solely on players from `92- today.

That is very interesting.

Just goes to show with spurs, that money doesn't necessarily buy you success. lot of other factors to consider.

But I suppose when you spend copious amounts like Chelsea and Man City then you have much more of a chance to compete.

From what Arsene has been saying over the last couple of weeks he will be spending quite a bit of money this summer. Maybe the most we have ever spent in a transfer period?

I know that we have more or less got Chamkah (or however you spell it) but I think whatever funds we get is all spent on defence. At least a couple of established central defenders and a goalkeeper. Once this area is sorted, I think we will have a much better chance next season.

Although I do think we will always suffer to some extent defensively by the style we are playing at the moment. Better and younger defenders are needed. Djourou was turning into a great little player, hopefully injury doesn't do to him what it seems to have done to Eduardo and Rosicky at the moment (hopefully those two can get back to their best).

Anyway, I think Arsene has lost patience with some of the squad and some players haven't turned out the way he wanted. Time for a bit of a shake up :DD

and whom do you think those players might be?

rosicky is very poor atm. he was always on the ground only showing bits of what he used to be...sad.

so...Chamakh will come for free?

Not sure on what players. I haven't got great knowledge of footballers worldwide. hopefully Wenger and his scouts have an idea ;))

I'm not sure what the Chamakh deal involves, I can't remember? there was a reason why we waited till this summer though I think. So we might be able to get him cheaper at least :))

Well we've not done to badly coming in 6th with the likes of Villa, Newcastle and Spurs even above us. :))

:LMAO: At Liverpool and City.

Those people thinking of a clearout are such fickle fuckers. As soon as we go through a bad blip, when half our team are out injured, then they start calling for people to get rid of.

The only players I wouldn't mind going are Silvestre and Gallas. The reason being if we get rid of these, then we can fill their places with quality. Silvestre is shit and Gallas is getting older and getting injured more often (also I think he wants to leave anyway).

Our team, or the team that is left after our injuries, need a stick shoved up their arses, but that is all. They need to be more aware of what is going on around them and when they are in a defensive situation, then they need to think about defending. Not leaving players to run about, because they think it is not their job to defend.

We haven't had a full team for most of the season, yet we have showed some passionate and determined performances.

Seems to be we get to cocky, when we are winning games. This needs to be slapped out of the players. They keep saying they have learned their lessons, but the same thing keeps happening.

Anyway, alot of the players that people want to get rid of, will definately come back to bite us on the bum if we get rid of them IMO.

I for the life of me I don`t see Alumina biting any bum, and I think our squad is thin ,because we don`t bring more it`s like 2 leave and we`ll bring in 1 making the squad thinner. Keep the squad just add to it. Not common sense if there`s no sense!! Sol should stay he`s great as a back up.I rather get experience for the backs not fussed about our striking force think there fine.

try telling that to others who want almnunia, eduardo, eboue and denilson out.

they are decent backup players and we sSHOULD keep them.

ALL YOU LOT KNOW HOW EASILY OUR PLAYERS GET INJURED so having a larger team will benefit us

I don't think we should shift too many. Last season I was about as convinced as can be that Eboue should leave, but he's done enough and turned it around for me.

Silvestre is the only obviously casualty IMO. He's not as disastrous as many think he is but he's not top four quality anymore. Almunia shouldn't be our number 1. Again, not a rubbish player but if we really want to kick on from what has been overall a pretty encouraging season we need a rock solid keeper IMO.

The rest are good to stay for me.
