Arsenal Thread

Losing Fabregas is a huge blow, he's been fantastic lately! I really hope Arsenal win something this year though, Let's hope the team can cope without a lot of their key players.

Only hope is that when Fab was out earlier in the season, we did very well. But it is a huge blow. Also with Gallas out aswell.

Arshavin we can cope more without, as we have rosicky and Walcott to take over in those positions.

Hope Nasri will play in the middle as great as in the match against Porto,
then he can fill Fabregas' position. For the league it's no problem to play
with Sol in the middle but against Barcelona it's a huge blow as he is to
slow for Barca and Song was bad yesterday as CB. I would try to play with Sylvester.

Nasri can play in ther same position as Cesc. That will not be the problem.
I agree with the analysis of Drekkard.
To me Vermaelen really played a good match (but i'm Belgian and maybe biased).

To be honest, i was disappointed. Barca's first 20 minutes were fantastic, but then it stopped.
I'm afraid that the fact Arsenal came back is more due to complacency from Barcelona.

Let's face it, normally there is no contest between those two teams (and yesMessi was not good in the second half). The red card was harsh, the penalty deserved.

Those are the two teams that play the best football in the world but there is a huge gap between Barcelona and Arsenal. I wouldn't mind if Arsenal would prove me wrong, but Barca will thrash them in Nou Camp.

And then Almunia, what a tragic figure. And outstanding performance in the first half and then another howler with the fisrst goal. It doesn't matter if the defense made mistakes (and i'm not sure about that), Almunia should never have come out...i'm a former GK myself...i'm not talented but i damn know how it should be done. I really felt for him because he was superb in the first half.

I hope for a better match in the second leg. (Not that it was a bad match, but i expected much more from both teams).

I agree, Vermaelen was good. Both goals came when Song dropped into centreback and didnt stay close to Ibra. Watch the replays from the side of the pitch, both goals look identical... a longish ball over the top, the movement of the Barca forwards pulls Vermaelen and Clichy towards them and Song fails to track Ibra who finishes both times with style.

Also I think it was a bit silly by Wenger starting with Gallas, Arshavin and Fabregas when none were anywhere near 100% and now he's paying the price. He should have started with Song at the back or Campbell instead of Gallas and maybe started with Denilson or Walcott and brought on Cesc or Arshavin later on. Now all 3 have aggravated their injuries and you won't have them for ages.

I think Barcelona suffered from their continual pressure through the first hour of the game.

Any team would have trouble pressuring a team that well for a full 90mins. So in that respects their tactic did not work for them 100%. I think Wenger knew to some degree they would tire and brought on Walcott to take advantage of that, at the right time.

I think it is hard to compare the Arsenal last night to a near full strength Barca team.

Our best striker was out. Our captain and best player was not fit at all. One of our main defenders was not match fit either. The one player that usually is dangerous for us in big games, went off early.

A full strength Arsenal would have played alot better against a full strength Barca. but we wont see that for a while. Of course it is all ifs and buts and nobody really knows. But to suggest Arsenal as a team is that far behind Barca in general, not taking into consideration the points above is not a true reflection.

But yes Barca are a better formed and established team. It is something we can look to being like in the future. but i don't think we are majorly behind them.

I think that next weeks game is too far for us. But they have their first choice defenders out for the game. So there is always a chance.

I never thought we would come back from 0-2 down last night but we did. You never know :DD

Nah, Barca suffered from not taking their chances.

It should have been a cricket score.

Taking off Ibra and bringing on the useless Henry didn't help either.

Of course they suffered because they didn't take their chances, but they gave everything in that first half. The amount of pressure was ridiculous. Whenever we got the ball, there seemed to be about 3 people around us. That is always going to have a great effect on the players in the later stages.

Bobby, Barcelona was not full strength: they missed Iniesta.
I don't understand why Guardiola left Touré on the bench, he was outstanding against Stuttgart.

Busquets was the one losing the ball for Arsenals 1st goal. Pep is a really good coach, but his obsession with Busquets is getting more and more stupid by the minute. Can't he see that Yaya is our best DMF? He offers everything, and yet he is benched for that childish 1,90m guy that makes a terrible mistake every match? Come on pep... open your eyes!

I think I said near enough full strength? which is what they had, if they were only missing out one of their main players?

Good news... Clichy and Denilson is back I was more concern for Clichy even though Denilson comes good at scoring so...hopefully we can get a smashing result at the Emirates

Sorry Bobby, i thought you siad full strength...i should read better in the future.

There have been some reports suggesting that AW fielded Cesc with his leg already broken before the match, which is ridiculous, considering how protective Wenger is of his players.

I hope Cesc and William recover before the World Cup! And Andrey even sooner, since he won't be at the WC. I've read somewhere that he might be back for the game against City.

As for a full strength Arsenal, this sounds impossible to me. It's ridiculous, the amount of injuries! 3 important players in the same match? :(

Truth be told, Arsenal have been handicapped throughout most of this season after losing its best striker. It's such a shame, RVP was in great shape and scoring for fun. Then that happened to Ramsey, who had been so far a great squad player. And now we just keep on losing more players. If things carry on like this, Eastmond and Watt will be in the starting lineup before the end of the season!

With or without trophies, at the end of this season the same old questions will have to be asked again. WTF is going on with all those injuries? Is the entire squad injury prone? I don't believe so. Physios? Medical staff? Someone has to answer.

I genuinely thought RvP had gotten over his injuries, he looked stronger this year and was in excellent form up till he got injured.

Arsenal would probably have walked away with the league if he'dve been fit throughout the season considering how well you've done without him.

Even if Cesc's leg wasn't broen prior to the game it was clear as day to anyone that he wasn't fit for the game. Wenger should have sat him out instead of chickening out and playing him.

I think some players play even when their not 100% . I just wonder what % is consider match fit when they supposedly test them before a match?

ridiculous red card that though, sick of this new rule Wenger's moaning has introduced that you're not allowed to tackle an Arsenal player.
Aint tackles from behind not winning the ball a automatic read?

Your a joka thinking wenger doesnt want people tackling his players. get off your horse lad. Did you see wenger complaining on the tackles barcelona made? no? want to know why? because they dont go off on a witch hunt literely trying to take out our players and rough them up. they go and try to win the ball back.

Next week will be another demonstration on HOW TO PLAY this game called football properly.

None of this 10 man behind the ball bullshit and players setting themselves to "rough up" other players. its going to be all about football on the return leg.

watch and learn my boy watch and learn

yeah ! think it was his 2nd yellow though or would of been. The red card was harsh , Rosicky was hopping on his back then moments later was running .Eduardo(filth) has lost all confidence today ...Walcott needs to look up or at least give a ball to someone . Today was hard to watch seeing so many chances not taken. Bendtner is rubbish , but is improving rapidly into a well scoring poacher . 3pts with no goal difference advantage at home. Good news is after Barca`s national tv ...to be continue. We have a week to wash and sleep it off before facing the spurs at the Lane.

Sorry but diddnt you watch the game? there was marks and bruises all over the back of his leg. They put a bandage on and even then when he went back on the pitch he was still limping a bit. see his facial expressions.

Bendtner is far from rubbish. he is a decent player. he may not be as good as torres, rooney etc but he still does the job and works really hard on the pitch.

Now eduardo? Thats a player thats rubbish at the moment.

yeah Jonney I saw the mark on his leg I wouldn`t call it a Red though Neville did the same thing to Malouda earlier, yellow at best. Bendtner is not prolific but he`s improving rapidly he has to be the most improve player wearing an Arsenal shirt. When he came on I just knew he would find the back of the net ,but if I`m honest I never rated him as a finisher like he`s becoming now. Even you would agree were seeing magic in him atm. 10 behind the ball but we had 22 chances at goal to their 2 chances. I`m happy for the 3 pts. :BOP:

imo its border line red. he did go from behind and did not win the ball and last i heard, tackles from behind are a automatic red? I think even if he wasn't sent off, arsenal would have still scored. in fact we struggled when they only had 10 men lol. we was running riot when they had 11!!

Yea bendter has improved dramatically. good player he is. still young as well. 22? 23?

Super Nick a match winner, who would've thought?

But that was the difference between him and Dudu: physical presence. Dudu simply doesn't offer danger as the main CF. Also, he isn't the same anymore, unfortunately.

That Henry challenge and his subsequent reaction was a classical example of thuggery tolerated in this league. In most cases he would have gotten away with it but, surprisingly enough, not todayt. Tackle from behind, nowhere near the ball: straight red. That's a FIFA recommendation, not a "Wenger rule" as some like to put it.

3 points in the bag, still challenging. But today was very clear that our squad is in shambles. Very difficult to cope with all the injuries on the main players. Silvesta just proved he cannot cope as a full back during 90 min. At some point he was clearly exhausted and Vermaelen even switched positions with him!

That's how it's gonna be from now on. Scrappy 1-0 wins, thrilling stuff :D
