Arsenal Thread

All this rivalry with Spurs (or vice versa) is also big nonsense for me.
If Arsenal play against Spurs, i hope Spurs win (yes i know, they never do) but i'm not exactly happier because they win against Arsenal...it's just 3 points like every other match..

This year could be special. It's clear that i hope Arsenal wins the title, but i also hope that Spurs catch the fourth place. They have to play each other...this match could turn out to be the match that decides that Spurs loose 4th place or (less likely, but you never know) that Arsenal would loose the title...in both cases i would be sad (but not devastated, it's only football).

The rivalry is good, when it is full of banter. It's only ridiculous when people get into fights about it all.

I love Arsenal and football, but I am never going to have a fight over football.

Arsenal/Spurs is just like any other rivalry. it is good for football as it makes games much more special and mean alot more. It adds more to the season.

I know more Spurs supporters than Arsenal. My two best friends both support spurs. We always take the piss out of eachother :DD

What a cockup today, I cant believe it...

The ref as somewhat one sided (Webb again!). Arshavin was taken down by a last man when he was trying to chip the goalkeeper who was out of his line, but just a yellow card was given. That, among other baffling decisions (the "foul" on Diaby's goal).

But all in all we had ourselves to blame really. Nasri could have killed the game when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper, and also we didn't do what we had to in the final minutes, which is hold the ball in the opposing field, bring down the tempo of the game, etc.

And, of course, Almunia's pathetic display. Totally unreliable and inconsistent. One week he can save a penalty but the other he can put it all to waste.

A good 2 points down the drain, these are the things that make the difference.

Arsenal blew it. Wont win the title. if we somehow still win the title, chelsea and manu should be ashamed of themselves.

TBH i am fucking surprised we was still in it after united and chelsea fucked us up in febuary.

We are still just about in it.

But we still have games against Spurs and Man City where we could easily lose points.

Especially away to Spurs and the form they are in!

i am really happy we are still challenging up to this point, even if we don't win it.

Lots of positives for next season though.

Song has really strengthened out midfield, Diaby is starting to prove his potential and looks like he will be a very important player for us. Van persie will be back (don't know for how long though).

We are getting another striker if rumours are to be believed (hopefully to cover Van persie when he is injured for half the season)

We need a reliable keeper and a good solid defender to partner Vermaelen and then I think we are sorted (As much as we will ever be) and can hopefully do even better next season.

If Fab goes though, it could all fall apart. But I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will give us another season after the promise of this one.

So excited about the Barca game! hopefully they do us proud! :DD

I'm confident there's a few more twists and turns to come so I wouldn't say you're not out of it yet. If we draw with Chelsea next weekend then lose to City and Chelsea drop some more points then you could be back at the top. There's still a long way to go and while there's only a few points between the three teams a lot can change each weekend.

There's not much in it, the fact you actually drew IMO makes it harder to predict as your fixture list is piss easy compared to us/Chelsea.

once you and Chelsea play eachother, the fixture list is quite even really.

We did have a 'piss easy' fixture list after the last times we played you lot. Thats why we have won our last six games :)) and drawn 1 :((.

That is why the Birmingham game was important to win. Because if we would have won and you two draw next week (and we won obviously) then we would have had a great chance. That last minute goal from birmingham and yours and chelsea's goal difference just makes a huge difference in my eyes.

But as I say after you two play eachother, the fixture list is pretty even IMO.

Considering we got Chelsea, Spurs and Blackburn/Sunderland Away. Chavs have also got Liverpool. Still your as likely as us to win it.

Fixtures after Saturday.

Arsenal-------------Man United------------Chelsea

Spurs (A)-----------Blackburn (A)---------Bolton (H)
Wigan (A)-----------Man City (A)----------Spurs (A)
Man City (H)--------Spurs (H)-------------Stoke (H)
Blackburn (A)-------Sunderland (A)--------Liverpool (A)
Fulham (H)----------Stoke (H)-------------Wigan (H)

After Saturday (saying after saturday, because the only way we can benefit slightly is if you two draw, if one of you win then we are fucked) the fixtures are pretty much the same (arguably) so our fixture list isn't piss easy compared to yours and Chelsea.

I would argue Chelsea have the easier fixture list, considering they don't have the Champions league to deal with either.

I'd buy Akinfeev and kick Almunia's behind with a Idiot's Goalkeeping Guide. And the fact that he's been given only 1 year contract extension makes me optimistic. AW should be blind to not see our gk problems.
basically spurs can deside the title. personally i think they'll get smashed by Man Utd. and i'm not too confident with those 3 away games neither with Man City home.
Chamakh should suite us well as a real CF, but that will make us top heavy, with many attacking players.
also, what do you guys think about Subotic from Dortmund?

Can't see United or Chelsea for that matter dropping more than 4pts, the Spurs games will be a good pointer...

Tottenham are playing well but I personally think the only team they will trouble will be Arsenal. United and Chelsea have greater depth and don't have the whole 'derby' furore hanging over the fixture.

Worth pointing out that Spurs will play (I think) United at the end of a 10 period with Arsenal, Chelsea and an FA Cup semi...

That said, I still think Arsenal have the best run in. United and Chelsea have tougher away matches, and really at this stage of the season that's where the points are going to be dropped.

Should be interesting though. Chelsea's CL departure might just tip it for them (see this saturday, they've got time to relax and get fit while United have to play Bayern on either side)

I wouldnt mind Chelsea winning saturday...they face stoke and pool both are very tough games. Mutd have a high confidence that needs a dent or 2, because if they have the confidence ain`t no stopping them with or w/o Rooney fit.

Arsenal have a mental block and that`s the biggest test...it`s a mental battle which Mutd are immune to

ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL......ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL......ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL.....ARSENAL!!!!

WE CAN DO IT!! :DD

DEFEND FOR YOUR LIFES!!! :D

Seriously though should be a good game tonight and with Iniesta definitely out and maybe Xavi you could be able to control the game which Barca aren't used to
