Arsenal Thread

Imo Wenger will only sign Hazard if Fabregas leaves. They play the same position, and I don't think either would work well out wide. Plus Ramsey is rather good, and already there.

Does seem like a Wenger buy, price tag aside...

I thought Hazard was more attacking than Fabregas? He played as a lone striker in the second leg of the tie with Liverpool. I'm sure I've seen clips of him playing wide too (or at least he starts wide and cuts inside and scores), so maybe it could work?

In the Belgian national team he always plays wide and in his last match (Croatia) he was superb in that position, best Belgian player (and not only according to me, because since i realise i know his father, i guess i'm not the most objective person to judge Hazard).

He looks like another Nasri from what I've seen. He's certainly a Wenger type signing (small, technical, Gallic) but do we really need another mini midfielder to add to a an already congested lineup? As beachryan mentioned, possibly if someone leaves, but I can't see him joining otherwise.

I’ve already written you three letters but they haven’t been delivered...Well ... My name is Olga, I’m 13 years old. I go out for football and I’m your biggest fan..... Well, my dad does not allow me to play football but I want to…- Andrey, tell me what to do?

Arshavin: Listen to your Dad.

Eh? Fabregas is a CM, it would be a bit like saying you'd replace Xavi with Messi. Hazard is Wide Forward or in the hole player.

he'll go to Madrid the season after next IMO.

This kid Hazard really looks quality from the youtube clips!
To sign with Madrid would be hazardous to Hazard's career. Sorry about the pun but really, where will they play him? They got C. Ronaldo, Kaka, Higuain, Van der Vaart... I could see him getting more first team football at Arsenal. Madrid is a team who wants every offensive player who appears in the spotlights but then they don't know what to do with them. For instance, look how amazingly well Sneijder is doing at Inter. Look at Huntelaar's case as well. I think Real Madrid will only rely on proven players. Or maybe they just have to justify the shitload of money they spend and not playing a young kid for whom they didn't spend as much. It would just show even more how awfully managed they are.

Even Arsenal is packed with attacking players. But with the amount of injuries we get he would play a lot, unless he was a victim of injury himself...

i just read on the metro that inter milan are preparing a 36m bid for fabregas and they say they are very confident they can seal the deal as they have already taken out health insurance for him!

on top of that 36m they will trade in one of their players Balotelli.

edit: seems to be some confliction going on here. inter are ready to give us 50m not 36 but no player exchange.

http://luqblogluq.blogspot.com/2010/03/inter-milan-launch-50m-deal-to-land.html

umm 50m willl do us nicely. buy messi or torres and we probably still have some money left after those two deals

Um, Jonny - you been drinking this mornin ;) ?
1. No way would inter be the destination of lil Cesc
2. 50m could maybe buy you Messi's right leg. But that's not really useful now is it?

I think he meant to put a wink next to the messi comment.

Why would Fab go to inter? sounds like bollocks to me.

But Fab could want to go to another top team, before he goes to Barca? it is a possiblity.

football never fails to suprise me. But hopefully it wont suprise me this time.

hehe ;). How much would messi cost these days? 100m?

50m is a lot of cash to spend

Messi would be much, much more than £100m
Thats a joke right? has football really gone over the top? 100m for ONE player is still a lot mate.

im guessing 200m? 1 billion? seriously when will it stop? When will they put a cap on such insane price tags?

what can 50m buy u these days then? a 16 year old youth? sounds like it if messi is worth 200m+

If thats the case then we should be selling fabregas no less than 100m.

I think Barca would sell Messi for 100m. They'd be stupid not to, for the long term success of the club.

But yes, football transfers have definitely reached stupid status.

I doubt it, They have no reason to sell. If Ronaldo wanted to stay i'd bet my house on us rejecting that 80M bid we had.

I can see your point but for some reason this just doesn't stop talented kids in joining Real, Just look at Benzema and Canales. Most of them have the attitude of enjoying the challenge of getting into a side like that rather than shying away, im sure its one of the reasons they've made it this far in their careers.

Nah that's bollocks YG.

Benzema and Canales (and probably every other young talent that chooses Madrid from now on) have gone for the money, you can tell.

It's not worked out for Benzema in reality because he's struggled to cope with the pricetag and pressure of being at Madrid, and I can see the same happening to Canales, especially when he struggles to get into the side.

As much anyone dislikes Real Madrid they are every Latin players dream club, on the continent their regarded as the pinnacle and theirs a reason why most players feel you can't say no to them, the cunts.

That's a whole different kettle of fish really, Catalan players are pretty much honour bound to ignore Madrid.

Not to say that some haven't played for them in the past of course, but for the most part it's a sin to play for Franco's team.

Fabregas' future depends on many things. I think he realises his importance for Arsenal, he is the captain of the team and if he gets a taste of silverware this season, as captain, he can become more bonded to the club.

But there's also the World Cup, his success with Spain could change things. We cannot know for sure. I hope he stays of course!

About Barcelona selling Messi: this would never happen. Not even for 100 million or 150 million (I could see Barca snubbing an offer like that). He's a 22 year old genius ready to take over the world. And I think he wants to stay put.

Speaking of the devil, the Barcelona game seems out of hand now... Before sales opened for Red members it is sold out already!! WTF!

Yeah I think the fact he is captain and so loved at Arsenal makes a big difference. If he goes to any other club, he will be behind other players (Not that I think he will mind that).

The game was never going to red members, I didn't even look. Big games like this will never go to Red members unfortunately.

No chance for Reds for the Barca game. Every seat will be full will Gold and Silver members, can't blame 'em really!

As to whether Barca would or wouldn't sell Messi is open to so many factors. At the present time, given his form and Barcelona's position as the 'best' team in the world, he is genuinely priceless. There is no financial incentive for the club (as there was with Man Utd and Ronaldo for example) and even less playing staff incentive. Who are you going to find who is better, younger with more potential? The player is not unsettled, he has no (stated) burning desire to play for another club, again, as was the case with Ronaldo and, sadly, may turn out to be the same for Fabregas.

However, football can change very quickly. Just a few years ago all of the above would have been true of Ronaldinho. It didn't turn out so well for him in the end.

It's impossible not to be a fan of Messi and I hope he stays at his current level for the rest of his career. If history is anything to go by though he is likely to go through some kind of form dip at some stage. Then we might be in a better position to ask if Barca would sell him. But at the moment, there is quite literally zero reason to sell.

Barcelona would be stupid to regect 100-150m for messi. End of the day its a business for the owners of these clubs.

I think you're wrong in this one. Barcelona doesn't have "owners" as 99% of the clubs. The owners are the members of the club (currently around 175.000 people, all of them with the same exact share of the club). The main goal of the club is not making money, but enjoying sports (football, basketball, handball, indoor football, athletism and hockey right now). And as far as the club is economically growing, there's no need to win more money. On the contrary, the club wants to increase income to sign better players in all categories, expand the youth teams, etc.

The club will never sell Messi for money, a player grown up here. We could have sold Puyol, Xavi or Iniesta years ago if we were seeking for that, but we're just different. Hey, we even PAY for putting a brand in our shirt (Unicef).

These are all reasons why Barcelona is the only really massive club i like a lot. They are completely different to most other football clubs...
To me Barcelona is a club with a heart (hart?).....it's not my favourite club...but i like them as a club.
I like a club like Arsenal because they play attractive football, but this could be temporary (because of Wenger or because of certain players)...Barcelona as a club is different and will always be different. And the fact that they usually play stunning football is a mere bonus in this case.

In that sense i'm not a real football fan. Well i'm a bit of a Spurs fan, but i've also been (temporarily) a fan of teams like Deportivo La Coruna, Sevilla, Ajax, Wolfsburg, Roma and other clubs when they played good football.

I know what you mean gerd about being a fan. I live far far away... and something inside doesn`t let me look to support another club though. I admire how you are able to admire and flirt w/ other clubs. I eat the same breakfast as i did at 5yrs old ffs change is extremely hard for me. I`m asked by ppl what correlation to I have to Arsenal...I just say " Arsenal somehow found me.." I think players like Kevin Campell (hairstyle did it) or Wright. I was in Orlando WC94 and was close and personal w/ Dennis and was interesting to see him go to Arsenal. If I`m honest I was moved by players and in theory 97-98 title won me over (cheap I know) Today`s player don`t move me like before...I`m focus on the shield and what it represents to me I`m a member of the Arsenal Trust , somehow that complete me

So in conclusion....I support Arsenal only, even if their footy change to a boring long ball team. 5 long years and all they manage to do is lift Amsterdam Cup / Emirate Cups so if I couldn`t leave then don`t think I`ll ever move. What you are able to do is great thank you for your input I understand myself a bit more now. My brother supports Ipswich ,but that`s because he worked at Lockheed Martin their and doesn`t even follow football go figure same tree but different fruit

I'm a bit like Gerd when it comes to admiring teams that offer quality football. Needless to say I like Barcelona a lot. A decade ago, in the Rivaldo years, I even supported Barca with the same dedication as I did with Arsenal! I also followed other leagues and had a preference for PSV in Holland and Inter Milan in Italy. But all that kinda died down years ago and now there's only space for The Arsenal.

Funny you should mention Dennis, beboq. He was the main reason I started following Arsenal in the first place. Back then I considered him the best player ever. Well, still consider one of the best. He was the firestarter, so to speak. A couple of seasons later Arsenal became more than Bergkamp for me and Arsene's style and the other great players were very appealing to me.

In the WC94 I was quite sad that Brazil had to advance at the expense of the Dutch. Regardless of Bergkamp, I still want to see Holland winning a World Cup before I die :)

Sorry for the off topic!

All this rivalry with Spurs (or vice versa) is also big nonsense for me.
If Arsenal play against Spurs, i hope Spurs win (yes i know, they never do) but i'm not exactly happier because they win against Arsenal...it's just 3 points like every other match..

This year could be special. It's clear that i hope Arsenal wins the title, but i also hope that Spurs catch the fourth place. They have to play each other...this match could turn out to be the match that decides that Spurs loose 4th place or (less likely, but you never know) that Arsenal would loose the title...in both cases i would be sad (but not devastated, it's only football).
