Arsenal Thread

yeah, to say Campbell is awful is harsh on him. In fact, I still trust his defensive skills and experience but he is too old and too heavy to mark Messi. He simply doesn't have any pace. Vermaelen and our full backs will have an extra load of work, no doubt about it. If AW lets them overlap like they do in the Prem it will be asking to be raped.

Shit...this is a premature final.
The two teams who play the best football meet too soon.

Lami is a fine goalkeeper. If Arsenal had a GK that is half as good as him...He should go to the WC.

I'm afraid that Barcelona will win. As much as i love Arsenal, Barcelona is the stronger team. If Wenger plays Campbell, this will turn out to be his Waterloo, the end of a useless come back. Messi will tear Campbell apart...he's simply not good enough (i'm sorry if that hurts some people here, well anyway it's just my meaning).

PS: my 7 year old son suddenly performed a Zidane roulette in match today, came alone before the opposing GK and hit the post...everybody was astonished...not least his father. You can have him Arsene or Pep (this last sentence of course is a joke).

Lami is that good?! Ring SAF mate we need a replacement soon (;))).

I just can't see how your defence will cope, Henry probably won't start IMO and Ibra's size can play an advantage and he could really bully your defence if he plays at his best.

Song was outstanding.... our 1st red of the season too :COAT:

Well that was 2009 :P
But seriously, this scares the shit out of me. I hope 2010 isn't as good for him or at least he will be in a bad day against us, cos otherwise the guy is unstoppable. Some of his moves don't even look like real life. It's more like watching someone playing PES

Actually, it wasn't even the best of 2009, most of the 30 goals wasn't there. In 2010 he has scored even more goals, and most of them are goals that maradona could have scored only once in his life. I think this guy is the best dribbler I've ever seen. When he's high, h'es truly unstoppable. Watch his 2010 goals in youtube to see what he's been doing almost every week.

That said, he can be stopped as any other human, but it requires great teamwork to stop him. In my oppinion, if Arsenal tries to play bravely and attack they have more chances to win than playing conservative. I've seen many many teams in our stadium and the only ones that have taken any profit are teams who try to have the ball and attack. Those who come to defend end up beaten badly (except Rubin Kazan that had the biggest portion of luck I've ever seen in 90 minutes).

So, I think if Arsenal can hold possession of the ball, it can inflict a lot of damage to us. And precisely Arsenal is one of the few teams that can do this. So, from my point of view, Arsenal was the worst team we could face in this round.

I'll try to go to the Emirates if I find a ticket and a cheap plane. Those are one of the best matches I could ask for, MY team against my favorite english team!

I may NOT agree with everything you said Arsenal is similar in style but Barca`s way is proven while Arsenal are still pushing their belief into a reality.En otras palabras Barcelona es el hermano grande y el Arsenal es el hermano mas joven ;) pero gracias por su palabra noble .

Arsenal have been playing the same kind of football and proven since wenger first came to arsenal.

your quick to forget how this style of football brought us loads of trophies in wengers first 5 years with us.

We will fucking beat the shit out of barcelona. i fucking hope so!! ;)

I'd say your style has adapted and morphed into different forms over the years.

I mean the current side is nothing like the lightening quick counter-attacking invincibles that played through the early to mid noughties.

I'm a big admirer of Wenger, but sometimes i don't understand him.
Why was he complaining about Thomas's sending off ?
Vermaelen committed a foul and he was the last man...clearly a straight red card...

I hope Arsenal won't miss him...they definitely have a big chance to win the title this year.

@ Jonneymendoza I haven`t forgotten jonney I`m referring to Arsene`s new approach in belief , highbury was then and Im referring to the now. The new system 4-3-3 building a team where one doesn`t make the difference. Bringing the best out of a player , back then his players were somewhat polished . Now, he`s building the mold

I thought it was a harsh decision myself :))

He is out for one game, so hopefully we wont miss him too much. But a central defence of Campbell and Silvestre, doesn't fill me with much confidence. Maybe Song will step back there for the game Vermaelen is out?

That is a distinction that is usefull...like i said in another thread: "a soft penalty" is like a woman who is a litle bit pregnant.
For a soft red card the suspension should be less longer. And for fouls like Vermaelen maybe the red card is enough of a punishment...

This shows how "much" confidence Arsenal have on Sylvestre...

A central defence of Sylvestre and Campbell would be bad. Anybody with any pace would give them a torrid time. Add to the fact they have never played together before.

Appeal was rejected. Looks like he still has only the one game suspended though :)) hopefully we can play well against Birmingham on Saturday and Campbell and Silvestre prove us wrong.

I wouldn't be suprised if he put song back there though.

Song at the back. Diaby, Denilson, Fab to make up the midfield three. Should be enough to do Birmingham. If it's not then we don't deserve the title.

There is a very big chance that Eden Hazard will play for Arsenal (although maybe not necessary next season).
Wenger is following Hazard for about a year now. He's charmed by him and he is scouted weekly. Hazard himself loves two clubs: Real Madrid and Arsenal.
Hazard's parents would prefer him to go to Arsenal (and maybe later on play for Madrid). I know this from a very, very good source (i know his father).

Arsenal would do well to follow his younger brother Thorgan too. He is 17 year old and has just signed a proefessional contract with Lens. According to his father Thorgan is "at least as good as Eden". There is a third Hazard brother (Kylian) who is younger and is very good too.

The Hazards are from Braine L' Alleud which is a neighbouring village from where i am. I used to play football against (and later with) his father Thiery. His mother Carine played for the national women's team. A couple of weekends by coïncidence i met Thiery Hazard without knowing that he was the father of. We talked about football and my son said he plays football and then i asked Thiery if he had any childeren and then he started about his football playing sons...i was flabbergasted.

Today the story about Hazard is all over the Belgian papers...it accords with what his father told me...

It's all up to Lille now. Hazard and his parents wouldn't mind another season at Lille. Lille wants to transfer him for 22 million Euro...

Nice one Gerd, thanks for that.

I haven't seen him play, but I have heard alot about him. So hopefully it will happen.

I can see 22 million Euro scaring Arsene off though to be honest. he will have to think of him very highly to pay that amount.

Wenger took the trouble to ask after Hazard's cell phone number and took the time to phone and ask him considering going to Arsenal (and not Real Madrid).
Furthermore Wenger was on a French football television show and when he was asked if there was one player in France he wanted to buy for Arsenal, he answered something along the line of :' "if there is one young player in the world i want to buy it is Eden Hazard".

There is a clip in the Liverpool thread where Zidane is asked the same question and gives the same answer...

And i'm not sure if this is such a good thing to be honest...expectations will be sky high and Hazard will judged according to expectations.

Take the example of Vermaelen, everybody was convinced that Vermaelen was transfered as fringe/squad player for Arsenal. Due to injuries of other players he started playing and did well...he's a hero now for the Arsenal fans.

There is a big danger that Hazard will be considered a new Zidane and if that's case he will certainly fail...He's damn good, but not as extraordinary as the press and most Belgians (including me) think he is. For all the big young talent we are supposed to have, we lost matches against Armenia and were absolutely slaughtered by Spain and Bosnia...
