Arsenal Thread

We won without playing so good. I can't remember seeing Arsenal playing so many wrong passes!
Diaby saved the day and Everton and Villa made things interesting again. Let's hope it is not just Hope playing with our feelings...

What's more interesting is that if Man City win their two games in hand, they're right on your tail. After that, one more slip up and they could take the 3rd spot.

A pretty mixed performance all round. To be honest we looked like a team who had just played and lost the two biggest fixtures of our season so far.

Credit where it's due; Diaby has stepped up so much in recent months that I think he deserves to be first choice in the midfield three with Cesc and Song. He does add some physicality and a more consistent goal threat than he's shown before.

By contrast, criticism where it's due; how poorly is Walcott playing at the moment? I know he's just come back from a fairly significant injury and has only played in fits and starts but in this, a World Cup year, he seriously need to start doing something. Aaron Lennon's injury is the only thing that gives him any hope at all of getting on that plane to SA. Even with that considered he looks well short at the moment.

Definitely getting ahead of myself here but looking at the run in, Chelsea still have City at home, Villa at home, United away, Spurs away and Liverpool away. In between those they have two legs against Inter and FA cup fixtures.

United have Everton away, Liverpool at home, Chelsea at home, City away and Spurs at home. Also two legs against AC Milan and the CC final against Villa.

You have to think there will be points dropped in and amongst those, so it really is up to Arsenal to ensure they get the absolute maximum from each game if we're going to have any chance of winning. All interesting again all of a sudden.

Yep, when all said and done. We basically need to go undefeated till the end of the season (with 99% wins) if we stand a chance.

I have my doubts if we can do that, but I hope the lads give it a damn good go!

@Joystick you made a very good point... Chels is playing lots of midweek + weekend games. Mutd are on form ,but their not machines so a slip here and there will happen...very interesting season w/ them dropping pts.

Really is good stuff, Wouldn't it be strange if you lot won it after those two previous games where if were being honest you were outclassed.

Chelsea and our fixtures are pretty tough, Interesting weeks ahead with pretty much positions 1-11 are pretty tight between the side below and apart from Pompey the relegation battle is close too :))

I dont think we were totally outclassed.

we got torn apart by deadly counter attacking against man utd. and Drogba was the difference in the chelsea game.

We don't have a Rooney or a Drogba at the moment and I think that is the main difference.

But I am not denying the better teams won on the day :))

Eduardo should be back for Porto. To be honest I think Arshavin needs a rest anyway. He's looked tired of late.

We'll have to wait and see with Song. No football this weekend so he could be back. A midfield trio of Denilson, Fabregas and Diaby wouldn't be a disaster anyway.

Anything can happen, for that's the beauty of the game. But I still think that a season like this is decided in close details and especially in direct confrontations - where we gave our opposition 6 points each. Remember 2008 when we finished 3rd 4 points behind.
Having said that, let's hope Arsenal defies all the odds.

One thing I forgot about the match against Liverpool that has to be said: Clichy stepped up to the plate and redeemed himself with a great performance. He didn't resemble his previous poor performances at all. Hope he keeps it up.

Chamakh is exactly the player Arsenal need.
He would be vital for a plan B: the long ball...he is very good in the air and on top of that a team player...

Chamakh isn't exactly an "attractive" player but he is (together with Gourcuff) the most influential player in the best team that France has nowadays (although Bordeaux have a bad spell at the moment). A team that was better than Juventus and Bayern in the grou phase of the CL.

If you know that Chamakh wanted to leave Bordeaux at the beginning of the season and that Bordeaux did not let him go, then you know he's a very professional player. He kept on playing good matches.

I think he's exactly the kind of player Arsenal needs and if i were Wenger i would get rid of Bendtner...Chamakh is the same type of player, but much better.

Of course all this is not a guarantee that he will succede with Arsenal.

Not Bendtner for me. I learned to like the Dane. He adds power, has good chest control, decent passing... I think it would be Vela unfortunately. He's an interesting skilful player, but is not doing so well. And most importantly, he's another midget among our many.

Bendtner is better than Eduardo and Vela and offers something different to almost all other Arsenal forwards. He's got the potential to be a great player.

Vela is shite really.

He's got a nice touch but apart from that, he's way too weedy, he's too small, he's not quick enough and he doesn't offer a goal threat because he barely shoots, and he's completely one footed.

Move him on and you won't regret it.

I agree at the moment.

But I really think he will be a really good player and will come back to haunt us. But he wont be ready for a few more years yet and we can't really wait that long.

If we could keep him and he would be happy to be on the fringes for the next couple of years, I would keep him. But I know he will want to be off soon, if he doesn't get games.

Why doesn't Wenger loans Vela out to a team like Blackburn, Sunderland, Fulham...a team that is no threat to them and that will stay up.
