Are people being over-critical about PES2008 ?

u are completely right when u say u not a serious player....this version totally sux dude!!!
i been playing top player, very hard setting since pes5(my 1st konami),total crap as a footie game, reminds me of early arcade footie games where u could score bags of goals....

Thanks for that .

I have to say that I'm totally digging PES 2008. I was a bit apprehensive to begin with, but after installing Kitserver and the latest beta drivers for my 8800 GTS card, it's running incredibly smooth. I haven't tried online that much, waiting a couple of weeks for it to be sorted out.

With regards to gameplay, I really have few complaints. Sure, sometimes strange things happen, but imo it plays a lot better than PES6 - I would never be able to go back to that now. I've been playing the series since ISS on PS1, and I truly feel the game has gotten better with each revision and this time it's no different.

Granted, it feels like a rushed release and the music is just plain ridiculous (K-k-k-k-kick it!), but be glad that you're playing it on the pc, and send some love to the people responsible for Kitserver and all future patches.

Yesterday, when I was playing, I received the ball with a player next to the referee and then, the next thing I know, he hits my player and pushes him away from the ball! OK not the first time, no big deal. But then the commentary says the classic old comment: "Oh, the referee says it's a fair challenge!"
Yea! Of course he does!

Completely agreed.

It's incredible that Konami seem to take away stuff in every release. They put something new into the new game and take something out. That is stupid. It shows they are not even trying to make the game perfect. Every year leaves us hoping for something better. Next year they sould definitely drop out hte PS2 developement completely. It was nothing more than a ridiculous way to take money away from people releasing a game that has absolutely nothing new in it. It was PES6, only worse as it was the most arcade crap I've ever seen from Konami.

I hope Seabass's promise that the whole way they make these games is going to change from now on. The truth is I don't have much expectations for this series anymore. Konami have pretty much screwed it up. And because FIFA is an absolutely ridiculous piece of crap (at least in PC) there really ain't any genuinely good footie games around anymore. That is a shame... Maybe there should come up a new developer to make a game that would put these two into some pressure...

Trust me, either one (or both) of FIFA or Pro Evo next year will be awesome. If FIFA carry on as they are it will be a great game. It's just down to Konami to step up, get some more people in and actually try, instead of rehashing the old versions.

I have 760mb 8800GT and have seen pictures of pitches with really good lighting and shadow effects. I have the program set to High and LOD mixer installed, with everything turn right up, but still see no effects like this.

Is there anything I am missing out doing?

I actually think that people will come around to the Game after the necessary patches are released from the great people that do the hardwork of modifying files etc., great stuff guys keep up the good work. I just started playing PES 2008 again a couple of days ago, because when I first picked it up I was dissapointed, and started playing my old PES6 patched version and was all good again, but then I thought how would the game, PES 2008, be if it had all the stadium patches, commentary patches, kit patches etc. like PES6 and I think that the game would be even better than PES6.
As for the game I am going to start with some minor Negatives and then onto some positives.
Negatives:
(1) The Camera angle for wide view that has no rotating levels (I am use to playing on 9, hopefully which I doubt when satdiums are created this can be fixed)
(2) The nets, nice movement an all, but they look bad, need to be more Box like. Just like in the EPL or closer to what they look like in the real stadiums. (This I believe can be fixed)

Positive:
(1) Graphics, good improvement largely do to because ofJuce & Robbies Kitserver.
(2) Game responsiveness better, more life like.
(3) Shooting is about the same, could use some work.
(4) Goal keeper animation and interaction, huge improvements.
(5) Editing Player movements, I like that you can choose different running style witht the ball, different styles for shooting & Goal Celebrations.

I just think the game with a great Superpatch in a couple of months and the game will be as just as fun as previous PES titles.

Excuse me mate, your first name is... NOSTRADAMUS???
How, in the Name of God, you know that?
Are you Lt. President of KONAMI?

The game's getting FANTASTIC in graphic/appearance and CRAPPY in game-play and rest, for TWO MAJOR reasons:

a. They doing them (games) like that, after closing deals with HARDWARE companies, to making us UPGRADING the bloody PCs all the time! Consider this; if KONAMI would create a SUPERB (by all means) game and communities LIKE THIS FORUM creating EVERY updates/transfers/etc, WHAT'S THE POINT of KONAMI's existence???

b. They doing them (ALL GAMES' genre!) SO DAMN MUCH... arcade/console like, because their MAJOR customers' target group are... KIDS!

Got it now?

dribble the entire length of the field with ease, id like to see that on youtube on the toughest level thanks

it is possible with above average players even on hardest setting...
IF you let your good player have the ball from anywhere on the park....
8/10 times he will get to within shooting distance of the goal and AT least have a shot saved....
but most of the time it will reslut in a goal either by the player themsleves OR from the rebound from a poorly saved shot from the goal kepper giving your "smaller" players an easy tapin...

this however is not as eay to perform online...
BUT...
what is VERY easy to do online is get your fast players BOMBING down the wings without to much fuss and firring in a bullet crosses...
ronaldo(both)...kaka...gigs...ronhildenio...robben....robinio...(to name but a few)

the dribbling is made easier by the fact it is harder to tackle!
and when you have good players on the ball it makes it very difficult to contain the good players!

IMO this version sucks because:
The budget that KONAMI allocated to Seabass was SAME as PS2 versions last year...
So making the engine graphics and animations (which are hugely improved compared to PES6) sucked up 80% of the budget at least as its evident from the games state...
So gameplay got the shaft toghether with testing...
Thats why Seabass is stating that PES2009 will be hugely imrpoved the engine is ready graphically so they will have 80% of the budget on gameplay and testing again...
At least thats my take on teh subject and hope...

1. Graphics...thats not a plus point when it takes members from the gaming community to MAKE the game better than the retailed version!!
2. the game is no where near like a simulation..detailed arcade game would be the closest description for PES2008...
3. Shooting being the same and neeing worked can't also be looked at as a plus point...
4. the goal keeper animations, AI, movement is terrible!
5. this has been avaiable since the early days of PES!..thats not new tech!

i am not trying to be funny and take the jimmy out of you..., but the things you have said are good points about the game cannot be viewed as good points what so ever!

what you have described is an early version of PES....PES5 it sounds like to me...
2 years later we have a game thats probaly worse and more flawed than PES%!!!!

konami have done next to nothing to this version of PES!
and in some cases..made the game worse than previuos versions!

not dissing any modders work here...the guys that mod on here and other sites are top notch superb guys and i thank them for anything they do to improve the game...
but i think even a super patch will not rescue this latest version from konami!
