Are people being over-critical about PES2008 ?

There seem to be a lot of very unhappy PES2008 owners out there !

Now I'm not what you would call a " serious " player . I simply like playing football games . And I know there's thousands of real " experts " who've repeatedly mastered PES over the years who may well disagree with me . But I would make some points : -

AGAINST : -

- It's a disgrace that Konami issued a game where the only way it could be run properly on my PC was if I found Kitserver 7 ( thanks Juce and Robbie ) .

- The online game is still a laggy joke, despite the patch . The messages you see in-game when logging on promising further improvements in effect have Konami admitting as much .

- For the PC game, it's obvious that Konami didn't state accurately the hardware requirements to play the game at optimum settings . I suspect a lot of people are caught out by this .

FOR : -

- Once I applied Kitserver , I must admit to being surprised at the great graphics .

- The more I play the game, the more I'm beginning to enjoy . It's DIFFERENT from previous versions and there are some gameplay flaws but it's not nearly as bad as some would have you believe - it may well be with more practice and experimentation many people will come to appreciate it .

- I still believe that once the online situation is sorted out it will be a game well worth having .

To sum up, in my opinion it's still a very good football game if you've got the rig powerful enough - it's certainly still way ahead of FIFA both in gameplay AND now in graphics . And once Konami get the online situation sorted, the PES community develop more kits etc. and people get used to the different feel of the game is it not possible that complaints will subside ?

I have to agree am lovin the game offline runs great but online at the mo is just a joke fingers crossed that will get sorted soon
 
No to me basic things are wrong so no matter how things improve the core cannot be changed such as Goal keeper AI.And the overall spongy feel to the game too fifa like for me.
 
I always enjoyed playing previous PES eventhough on low settings but tried this year's demo and how awful was it on low ...
 
Can't play network Arghhhhhhhhhhhh Whenever I tried to play network, and the match began, it froze before the match was over. I suspect it's related to Windows Vista..
 
Yes people are being too "over the top" with their criticism. However, we're talking about opinions and everyone will be different.

Personally speaking, I think this is the best version made. It is the right pace for what I like. The passing is nice and crisp. The shooting is easier to carry out (not easier to score). The defending is more of a challenge (I found it too easy to keep clean sheets in the last version). The graphics are, well, Pro Evo! Why change something that is'nt broken on that front? It works well so keep it.

The online mode is poor but give Konami a chance to rectify it. Yes, it should be ready by release date but sometimes these things happen.

A solid 8/10 from me.
 
game has gotten easier offline since pes6 imo and you can dribble with 1 finger basicly by just turning and scoring inside the box is just a joke theyve made it so boring that the striker places the shot himself you dont even have to hold r2 to place and you barely have to aim anymore, you dont need any skill to score anymore in this game wich sucks and the goalkeepers are just hilarious.

and you really cant be overcritical about the online part of the game it really couldnt be any suckier with the unplayable lag, the really lousy chat system(if you cant talk to the opponent during the games or in a normal way in matchrooms whats the point of playing online anyways, just makes the game stiff and boring might aswell play the computer then), no groups and no 2v2. so offline id give it 6/10 and online 1/10

its a case of people dont like change. I cant believe people honestly thought that the game would feel the same when it came to next-gen. Even pes6 on xbox 360 which was just a port of the PS2 version, and it felt alot different to the PS2 counterpart.

I will critise the goalkeeping though. I think that could of been done alot better. The online on the other hand, i found hasnt been as laggy as people have said. You do feel more distant from your opponent, with the lack of chat, but the lag i think will start to calm down over the coming weeks. Just look at pes6. Most people couldnt even log on let alone play a game. So dont be hasty just yet.

I kind of agree and dont agree with the opinions of the shooting system. I do think that you do have a little less control over where you put the shot, some shots seem to go straighter. Which means more emphasis on using the R2 button, which gives more precision. Which when you think abot it is more realistic. You cant just hit a shot with loads and power AND expect it to go exactly where you want it too. That doesnt even happen with most professionals.

I think people have forgot how bad PES1 was, which was the first edition of PES on the 'next-gen' console back then. Im not saying this is really bad. But its far from prefect. Its only up from here
 
i would just like to say something about goalies, i want to defend them. .lol

till now i found them pretty good. i feel they are more realistic compared to previous version. Making goalies Super-man just for the sake of making game tough isn't a good move imho.
instead if we concentrate more on second-last line of defense, that is defenders, that will be more apt. .if the defenders are positioned correctly(as i manage to do most of the time) and keep it more organised and make them work together. .goalie positions himself in a lot more better way and the goal is saved.

initially what i was frustrated about was scoring in 1v1 situations. .while counterattacking -where the opponent didn't defend well as i'll say- it is very easy sometimes and can miss as well. .which is i feel realistic, as in the ground any good striker 1v1 will score 9/10 times.

Anyway, if we defend well. .and prevent 1v1 situations , the game feels better with clean sheets on the board :)
 
i do agree with you there ^ but there are times where keepers make stupid errors, for example, corners. and some crosses. and occasionally fumbling a shot into a strikers path, but that happens more online, which is VERY annoying.
 
i love the new pes..knackers to all you jokers who want to run it at 13574x5432 with 512x AA and high settings..my pc isnt amazing(amd 3200+,gts6800,1gb ram and runs sooo smooth at 1280x1024 on high..indeed it does so phhhhhhhhh get over it
 
Well, my PES came from England yesterday. What I saw? I saw goalies taking balls under their bodies, I saw players loosing control of the ball every minute, I saw lightspeed long passes across the field, I saw balls hitting ankles and gaining great speeds.

And I saw sure goals for the computer (FKs, CKs, etc.)

For me, the game is horrible. It looks like that it was made in one month.

Without a massive amount of editing this game is awfull.

It didn't used to be like this, in older version that got every addicted to it, you didnt need to edit anything for it to play well.

If this was a new football game and not PES, most on here would pick it up, play one or two games and never touch it again. But because it is a PES game and there is a comunity that will strive to improve it, we will stick with it until people releases patches and option files.

No game we buy should need the following changes -

The AI is poor, the keepers are shocking, the game is too fast - so we create option files with tweaked game play

The pitch's look like something of an amiga game 15 years ago, so we import turfs

The stadiums and strips look look very unimpressive, so we import them.

The chants are worse than they were in PES4 on the PS2, so we import them.

The commentary is still poor, so we import FIFA's.

Because of licencing we correct teams, name and formations and add new teams.

I really feel sorry for people just buying this game now, who know nothing about the editing that can be done. I am sure I was the age I was when I first started playing ISS, I wouldn't know how to do half the stuff you need to in order to make this game look and play well.

Because it's way too large and it's the third time you've posted it. Seriously, if you have nothing worth contributing to this place, you're better off searching yourself a new playground.
 
No I dont think people are being harsh when they criticize Pes2008. Konami have been very lazy towards this game. AI is poor, GK's are terrible and online gaming is an absolute joke. I no people are saying give them time to fix that, but why cant it be ready when released...its not like that havent had notice. However, I still thinks its an ok game and with the Kitserver/Lodmixer coming out it has helped people on the lower spec. Im looking forward to when/if GDB's are sorted with Boots/Kits/Faces/Hair and most of all stadiums. I think once we have these, we can then talk more about what we feel about PES2008. Its just ashame that it takes our fanatastic community to sort it out.
 
I Disagree ! no patches will change the awful gameplay and unsolid buggy unfinished feel to the game it is quite obvious imo that this game has been released before it is ready.
It has beta stamped all over it.

#1 Keeper AI
#2 Balls bouncing off players after tackles at bullet speed and going out of play
#3 In general any ball won withing 25 yards of any line it will go out of play like a bullet
#4 Players standing still when taking a throw in and letting the opponent get the ball
#5 Unfinished poorly executed sound effects
#6 Chants not being separate and playing over each other
#7 More 99% certain ways of scoring now added such as free kick or even direct from a corner
#8 Dribble the entire length of the pitch with ease
#9 Long balls crosses moving like bullets
#10 Bad or lack of camera options
#11 Complete lack of goal reaction sound
#12 I can go on and on all night about why this game is poor but cannot be bothered any more

when pes6 was released you could immediately see it was better after the shock and getting used to it this is not happening with pes2008 what so ever for me in fact i don't even play it any more uninstalled it and just play pes6 online.

They have released it without fully testing and tweaking it it's as plain as day.
No amount of patches are going to change fundamental programming errors.
So unless someone picks up where Konami got to on this beta it's

I want to see someone post a video of them dribbling the entire pitch on the hardest mode. It cant be done. Until someone posts some proof of them doing it i call bullshit.
 
It is Konami's job to make the game playable. Not the players. There are so many creepy errors in this game in addition to the usual crap that haven't been fixed in the last two or three years. The collition detection: How can it be that in year 2007 game developers allow this kind of shit to be released?????? Cpu players head the ball while going through my players chest!! Konami have no sense of dignity or professional pride at what they do. They release these alpha state crap at full price. After this they can't really be wondering why people download warez versions of the game. I wondered Konami had the guts to release a demo this year. Last year it was released after the game (which sucked big time). I'd rather wait for two or three years and take a well made and polished game that has "we did our best" written all over it. Konami doesn't even make it easy for the patch makers to "save" their crappy effort. If they did, they wouldn't be making it so damn hard to edit they game.

This PES, is LOOKING GREAT, but playing it... sucks!
To me, there is NO CHALLENGE to play!
I'm playing in Professional mode with LFC and I'm ALWAYS wining with 5-0 in 10' game, generally...
In Top Player mode, I'm wining 8/10 the games with the rest... DRAWS, not lost games!
So... where is the fan about it?

AI sucks!
Goalies sucks!
Camera sucks!
Edit mode sucks!
Referee MEGA-sucks!
Difficulty sucks!
HUGE BUGS' AMOUNT... that's REALLY sucks!

So...? ARE WE fair, about cursing Konami or what?
 
u are completely right when u say u not a serious player....this version totally sux dude!!!
i been playing top player, very hard setting since pes5(my 1st konami),total crap as a footie game, reminds me of early arcade footie games where u could score bags of goals....
