4fansGames - indie football sim in development

The ball on the net physics video seems a little heavy to me, or something with the ground not causing much bounce. Still very early, of course, but just a small observation of mine (that could make or break it for some)

Is the engine he's using not just an old FIFA? Look at the stadium / adboards etc. - you don't tend to work on rotating adboards etc. first.

It probably is a scam - however, I am so desperate for a football sim, I'll put my hope and support (if not belief) behind anything at this stage.

I just find it interesting that the advertising boards in the goal net video were changed right after we discussed it here on the forum and a user was mentioned on the football Discord. A coincidence?

sorry if this is stupid question but what does "indie game" mean?

at first i thought it had something with india (country). :)

Mostly it's meaning that game is developing with limited resourses by one developer or by small team of developers, who is doing their work with soul.
Sometimes from such small projects can be in result "small, but shining brilliants", when good conception, good game projecting decisions, nice accurate graphic style of game and cool fabula for game can combine together and "voila" - yet one small indie studio making perfect brilliant game.

I am impressed from what I have seen so far! Yes there is no actual gameplay released yet but fundamentals look spot on. Hoping to see more soon!

The thing that puts me on edge about this one, is the asset side of it. Now I'm not a developer, but it feels really weird in 6 months to have, well no real like gameplay bits worked on, but just the look.

More in the sense he's got (what I would guess based off the sponsors) looks like St. James Park, individual crowd all moving independently, he's got stewards/security and managers modelled, animated adboards with real companies, Man City's kit... But then only has a few animations and player locomotion, only one player model.

It honestly feels like he's extracted files from EA FC to Unreal, then just added his own player model and added a locomotion preset.

Even if this is real nobody is going to create really good single player football game, it just not worth the time and effort for the payback. Online will creep in as that's where the revenue stream will be and then that will be priority

Kind of OT, but didn't feel like opening a topic for it;, anyway, Geografifa (144k subscribers Fifa career based youtuber) just released a video about his own football game project:

This guy is kind of a name in the community (I personally appreciate his videos and his creative ideas on how to play careers, even if I'm not a fan of the latest Fifas), so he's at least risking some of what he built in this (he's also asking for support).

I have no idea where all of this is going (even cause it's all very ambitious, just look at what he has in mind for career mode!), but it kind of feels like some general awakening in the community is happening. As per usual, I'm not holding any hopes high, but perhaps some bigger fish might finally perceive there could be a market for something like this...

Where is he posting updates? His social account doesn’t feature anything about it I think?

I just want some arcade street football with tekkers all around

VOLTA and REMATCH whet my appetite but both dead/dying now

I want singleplayer preferably I don't think there's such project currently right?

"he's extracted files from EA FC to Unreal," Mate, if you have no idea how game development works stop spewing this BS:D I don't know why you all are so "suspicious" of this guy, OF COURSE he hasn't got the gameplay ready yet. That's the hardest part! He doesn't even have an patreon nor from what i've seen asked for any money, why are you all calling this a scam? It's weird!

He posted a Patreon page in the description, I guess that's where he'll update people other than his youtube channel!
He hasn't posted a patreon link anywhere. So either someone is claiming to be him and stealing money, or you're lying / mistaken

Okay so as a game developer, I can try to add some logic into this. The reason he has done the stadium, crowd, adboards, security/managers modelled and animated first is because that's the easiest part. Making the logic and controls of ball movement, NPC AI behavior, a proper 11v11 functioning game is the hardest part and most time consuming. He is a solo dev with just 6 months of work on this so of course he hasn't done those features yet!

yeah asset creation is the fun part the not so fun part for me is trying to figure out those things even for my own small vertical slice game haha

It's literally in the description...

Have you read my post at all? I was talking about a different football game than OP.

So you say it's logical that he hasn't done the parts of a football game yet that is the most important.

If you are a game developer you would know you don't start with some nice assets. Quite the opposite. First you get the core loop right of the gameplay itself. At that time most is still grey boxing and your focus is on the essentials.

So yeah that he does it the other way around makes me definitely doubt the project. Every other serious game developer I know starts with the core. I mean it is what they teach in every game design class around the world and every course about game making and everyone who has worked on games knows this.

Like in 6 months he could have definitely worked on a good base core loop and created something instead of focusing on assets and so on.

Also you joined 16 minutes ago and all posts in here, running to defense for that project? Interesting.

Well true I didn't notice, however this thread is literally titled "4fansgames" so idk why you're focusing on that other game lol
They are both very early stages (to be generous), since there isn't much content to talk about and the conversation was also about generally making a football game as an indie/solo developer, I thought it was redundant to open another thread just for that single video of Geografifa.

However, if it grows enough I agree it could be a good idea to open another one
😉

thought Geografifa has some reputation amongst those FIFA modders?

then again I think putting patreon just puts pressure on yourselves and creating demanding backers which is not optimal for solo dev work imo
Yes, totally agree! I think for asking this kind of support so early, you should either be a famous dev going indie, or present something in a far more advanced state that he currently has. Even with the best of intentions, it can become overwhelming pretty soon.

Regardless, wish it will work out fine for him!

What games have you worked on?

No. It is the easy way to create a buzz for the project, especially for a YouTube audience.

- New registration on this site
- Defends a project as if its life depended on it
- Tries to make us feel guilty for being sceptical, because the only football games left on the market are poor or dubious

Evidence that leads me to the following theories:
- It’s the developer
- A friend or associate who will sooner or later ask for money for the project

Personally, I find that all those companies or indie developers who want to pass the entire business risk on to the customer (or outright scam them) are often untrustworthy. I am a customer; I pay once the product is on the market and has reached a standard of quality that is on a par with me as a paying customer.

Let’s hope for a game we’ll enjoy.
I’ll only pay once a good product is released.

Last time I probably did that was for FIFA16! 😉😂
