No it's not official, it will be announced on Friday. The squad sonoman posted is a leaked list by a Mexican reporter.

We need to check it on Friday if the list is right. Same for Argentina. Only the squads I posted are 100% official.

High possibility, but personally I hope he'll keep Volland and Großkreutz and eliminates Jansen and Draxler instead.

Yes, Jansen has absolutely no right to be there. Großkreutz would be a much wiser choice in terms of current form, fitness and his overall flexibility. I'd rather Löw would keep Meyer and axe Draxler, too.

Durm, Jansen, Mustafi, Draxler, Goretzka, Khedira, Hahn - Those I'd leave at home. Löw already gave the "wildcard" to Khedira a couple of months back, so I doubt he'll get rid of him, though.

I've corrected the list with the official one revealed today, it has a really unfortunate decision in defense IMO.. :(

I'm curious: Who would you have taken instead in defense? Torres? Mier? Jiménez? Mier and Jiménez will get their chance after this World Cup. Herrera will most likely be playing 3-5-2, so I think it was wise for him to take Guardado as a defender because Herrera will be looking to attack with that formation. The only head-scratcher for me was not seeing Aquino's name on the list. However, I've only seen him play for Villarreal, so I have little to no idea of how he has been playing for El Tri.

Hey Steve!
I absolutely loathe (sp?) Maza Rodriguez, i think we have few other players who could use that CB spot (Ayala, Dueñas, Magallón, etc.)..
I also don't like Salcido who is clearly past his best (remember Confederations cup for both this defenders?).
What worries the most is that Herrera rates Maza really high even if he's always doing stupid things on and off the pitch.
The defenders you mentioned will definitely have their chances after this WC, i'm impressed you can name them to be quite honest!

About Aquino, he hasn't really showed himself at El Tri, I also think he should've gotten a chance..

and about Vela.. well, that's a different story :/
i'd love to see him upfront next to Oribe Peralta

Magallón is the only one of those guys that I've seen play and even then, I can't really remember how good he is. Maza has always seemed to me like an okay defender -- not great, but not awful -- a player who simply does his job. I'm surprised that you dislike him so much. What did he do off of the pitch?
I also don't like Salcido who is clearly past his best (remember Confederations cup for both this defenders?).
Salcido has always struck me as a very underrated player, but I agree with you that he should not be included in this group. I think Herrera took him because he played on the U23 team that won the 2012 Olympics and he is respected among the younger players. He must have been a good presence in the locker room, otherwise I don't understand what the manager sees in him.
The defenders you mentioned will definitely have their chances after this WC, i'm impressed you can name them to be quite honest!
I've always been impressed with Torres, and Mier and Jiménez have the talent to make the transition to an elite European club similar to what Reyes did with FC Porto. Fabián is just as talented as Reyes and Herrera, but he needs to improve the mental side of his game. He can become a very good player, but his mindset is very similar to Gio's. He is talented enough to decide a match by himself, but he floats in and out of games too often. If he can become a more consistent player and have an impact on matches this summer, he will get himself a move to a big European club.
About Aquino, he hasn't really showed himself at El Tri, I also think he should've gotten a chance.
I think he should have made the list. Even though they play different positions, Aquino should have been selected over Salcido. He would have provided attacking depth, plus he plays with Gio week in, week out and having the ability to link up with him when you're in need of a goal could have really come in handy.
And about Vela...well, that's a different story :/ I'd love to see him upfront next to Oribe Peralta
The Vela situation is an awkward one: Either the Federation is refusing to apologize to him or he is too stubborn to forgive them. Either way, they both need to make amends and move on for the good of the national team and the country. It's a shame that a player like Vela will be missing the World Cup. I think he is making a decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life, especially if the type of form he is now is only temporary. He is too good of a player to be missing a major tournament like this one. And I completely agree with you about Peralta starting. Chicharito has been out of form since early to mid-2012 and all Peralta seems to do when he comes on the field is score goals. In fact, I think Peralta should start and Chicharito can come on for him as a super sub.

Also, the politics within the Federation and the team always seem to undermine Mexico from reaching their potential. They are a legitimate quarterfinal team and with the talent they develop they should always be considered a dark horse going into a World Cup regardless of who else in in their group. Mexico is so much better than what they showed throughout qualifying and I genuinely hope that they do well this summer.
