What one player would you take your main rival team?

vanzandt

Everton
If you could take one player from your rival team, who would you take and why (open to all fans).

As an Evertonian our main rivals are still Liverpool though I am sure some Liverpool fans will say there main rivals are xy or z...

Anyway I would take Macherano or Gerrard, I'd say Gerrard based on versatility enen though Macherano is the better defensive midfielder.

Who would Man Utd take from Arsenal or Liverpool or Chelsea if they could and vice versa and why?

What about Milan fans, who would you take from Inter, Juve etc....

Barca fan....etc etc

Hopefully this can be an interesting thread...please no partisan piss taking out of rivals;)

I'm a Brussels fan and our "big rivals" are Anderlecht.
If ever brussels could afford him (not in a million years) i would go for Lucas Biglia.

There isn't really a team I consider a main rival to my lot (Chelsea). Based on geography I suppose it's Fulham - in which case we'd probably have to pass on this generous offer! Can't think of any of theirs that we'd take.

From Juve I'd take Chiellini or Buffon, from Inter Javier Zanetti because he is a class player with loyalty. He is also very clean. I'd also take Cambiasso as he'd be better than Emerson.

He is widely touted as one the the big names to look out for in the future, how good has he been Gerd?

Will he stay at Anderlecht and either way how good is he?

Of course being a United fan Liverpool are "1" of our biggest rivals... id have to say either Fernando Torres or Steven Gerrard... those 2 are fantastic for Liverpool and would be great in any team.

From a United perspective I think Torres when be the one you’d want most as he would offer a differing striking opinion that you don’t really have Saha and his health issues apart. I mean ass good as Rooney and Tevez are, if you need to ask a team a differing question via an aerial threat, if a team has a strong deep lying defense say, or if they concede a lot of ground on the wings then…a more direct player can be very helpful. Gerrard is excellent of course, but I think you already have ample ability in that area.

Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal…..don’t you see these as rivals? I am surprised if not.

Benfica > Sporting > Liedson

Benfica > Porto > Quaresma

I admire Liedson, very good nose for goal.

I think Milan could seriously do with a keeper so I’d say Buffon would be the one you’d want to steal in my opinion Hehe, of course Cambiasso would compliment Zannetti in the center and allow freedom for attacking midfielders 4-2-2-2, wingers or a three man mid with two holding….Javier has been an amazing professional but is a tad old now. I need to see more of Chiellini to have a proper opinion of him.

hm, wouldn't that be more like 1860 or my team? ;) i think it's more down to historic and fan rivalry here, right? otherwise you could just take milan and barca or whatever.

Well, in all honesty, I do not count 1860 into that anymore. The club was broke and saved by Hoeness and Co, that was pretty much it with a REAL rivalry, if you ask me and on a competitive level Bayern outclassed 1860 for almost forty years now.

Nurnberg... maybe, but mostly from a geographical point of view. My cousin is from Nurnberg and a die hard Bayern fan, his home club coming only second. I never experienced a big rivalry there. ;)

From the Club I would probably want Saenko or Pinola.

Cant really think of anyone from Liverpool or Arsenal. They have great players but no one I'd want. From Chelsea it would definately be Essien. And Drogba if I got a second choice.

Arsenal > Man Utd > Vidic/Ron

Arsenal > Liverpool > Gerrard

Arsenal > Chelski > Essien

Arsenal > Sp*rs > eeeeeerrrm......... errrrmmmm..... nah

Biglia is fantastic vanzandt (albeit in the Jupiler League)...he will almost certainly meave Anderlecht in january...

Biglia as something of Fernando Redondo, which means i rate him, very, very high because Redondo is my alll-time favourite player...

villarreal x valencia, definatly i would take VILLA...i dont think i need to explain since hes one of the best strikers in the world, and would fit in any team.

T Butcher fan, it's a shame how times change.
Traditionally for Chelsea fans, it would have been us and Spurs without question.

For us it's traditionally Millwall, but nowadays Spurs, so I have to go with probably Robbie Keane or Berbatov.

Yes, they're rivals for trophies but I didn't think you meant it like that.

In that case I'll take Ronaldo, Babel and Toure. Thanks! ;)

I mean't for each individual fan to decide who they saw as their main rivals and an opinion based upon their own feelings.

I didn't think it was for me to tell other people who to clasify as their rivals, I think this is an individual thing really.

Anyway some very interesting posts.

Surley the striking option and differing abilities that Torres would bring would be one from Liverpool and with the brilliant Scholes getting a bit older and Anderson not the finished article yet (very good though he is) would you not love Fabregas?

Gerd,

Redondo like hey Mmmm big comparison, be good to see him play, maybe catch him in a European game or a friendly.

Rentalkid, Diego and Mertesacker, if I had to choose one for Bayern it would be Diego as an differing opinion to change the game as I think you are decent enough defensively anyway an the more creative options you could offer Klose and Toni the better.

You would think this was really happening the way I am speaking Haha

If anyone is down on Spurs I was a rival I would take Keane because I think he has had great consistency...

brunnoce...David Villa cracking player obviously.

Zenit > Spartak > no one ...

Nearly spat my tea across the room- no comment.

Liverpool > Torres . Arsenal

Liverpool >Gerrard . Arsenal

Chelsea > Peter Cech . Arsenal

ManUtd > C.Ronaldo . Arsenal

ManUtd> Evra . Arsenal

Spurs> fans . Arsenal

ManCity > Richards . Arsenal

Aston Villa > Young . Arsenal

Damn brilliant thread

I'm looking at it from a more realistic point of view. Essien IMO is the best player in his position in the Premiership. A Essien/Hargreaves or a Essien/Carrick midfield would be tough to break through. And if I got another choice, I would have gone for Drogba. Drogba would be a bigger presence up front compared to anyone else I could think of out of the other teams. I think a Tevez/Drogba or a Rooney/Drogba combination would be more lethal.
I'd maybe go for Fabregas but not before the players I've just mentioned.

Thanks Beboq..

Spurs fans...that is a very nice things to say :applause:

Arsenal lookin at Chelsea I would say Cech myself.

Rune I can see what you mean and yes I don't disagree. I just meant if you didn't have the Chelsea option who you would want from your other rivals of Arsenal and Liverpool, but yes I see what you mean.

A lot of people would like Essian and Drogba for sure.

Richards from Man City is a very good call to for Man Utd looking at City.

United- Ronaldo (the missing link IMO)

Everton- Arteta (no-one comes close :D) Doubt he'd get a game though!

Chelsea- Drogba (upfont with Torres? MMMM, questionable attitude however)

Arsenal- Cesc

rolf, some names and why please ... ^^

The love you shared for your rivals is why

Not get a game Mmm. So that must mean that Yossi benayoun who does get games is better; interesting. Arteta also plays on the left and right, so I guess Pennant and Kewell are better as well....or when Gerrard is played on the right then Arteta would be worse in the middle than Sisoko as well Mmmmm.

Sorry mate I can't agree with that, because to be honest I rate him higher than Gerrard as well.

I'd agree with that. Liverpool with a top winger would be very dangerous.
I think a lot of teams could do with Ronaldo in their side. Kinda like Ruud van Nistelrooy would fit into any side you put him in.
