Can be any game from any generation.
Please highlight why you recommending it, but also what are the bigget flaws of the game.

If you never tried it I would recommend giving a go at Fifa23 on switch. On pc you can emulate it with ryujinx. It has a few bugs but it is definitely playable.
It plays like a mixture of fifa14 an fifa16. The AI is really smart and plays a believable football. Teams identity shines quite well too, individual players seems to play according to their strength. It is also a better recreation of modern football with more counterpress oriented football without being too end to end.

I would recommend PES 17. The team ID means that every single opponent plays differently, to the point where it sometimes feels like you are playing against an actual human.

The gameplay is really arcade, perhaps too arcade, but its extremely fun. It is a bit too fast but the gameplay is fun on -1 game speed too.

The master league experience is basically the same as that of PES 21, except you don't have the stupid cutscenes anymore and the menu is arranged differently. I don't think there are any differences from PES 21's master league apart from those but I could be wrong.

There are a fair few flaws with the game though.

There aren't a ton of gameplay mods available, so if you dislike the vanilla gameplay you don't have many other options. The few gameplay mods that do exist, you'll have to search out on some obscure YouTube video or bundled in with some other patch.

The modding scene is there, but it's not nearly as active as that for PES 21. There are lots of patches, but their quality sometimes leave much to be desired. The modding scene is also not as organised as that of PES 21, where you have every mod with a page on evoweb.

Lots of people find the difficulty to be too easy even on superstar, and I sometimes agree. The graphics are also really awful on PC, visibly inferior to that of the PS4 version of the game.

Ill second this, the variety in play from the A.I is unmatched, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's like playing another human but it's close, they shoot at the right time, feint, long balls. it all feels very intuitive and natural, it has the one more game feeling to it. The graphics aren't the best, but a good option file on ps4 helps. Master league is where it shines, im 10 season's in, starting off with the default players presents a challenge initially, I try and not sign superstars to add some longevity.

At least the graphics are half-decent on the next-gen consoles, they're downright awful on PC. I wish Konami had put a little more effort into the PC ports of PES 15-17.

As for gameplay take a look here, at least as a start

Hey Pap
What's the current state of emulating that version? No shadows, right?
As long as I remember, EA FC 25 was running with shadows, but at 30 FPS

There is no players shadows (just the ball one).
Fans in the stand might look all red in some stadium.
Some weird white lines can appear randomly on the pitch sometimes.
It runs at 60fps unless you use the pro cam like me.
To have the controlled player icon, you have to emulate with ryujinx.

I wish we could find a way to port the gameplay straight into FIFA16.

Good question, for me depending on mood, i often go back to FIFA 17 FIFA 15, Pes 17 and a newly started league mode on PES 19

I’ll throw FIFA 13 (on PC) into the ring. Loads of fun. Maybe leans arcadey. Biggest downside is no mod support.

I'd recommend any pre-Frostbite engine FIFA game. My personal favorite, which I still play a few times a month, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa on PS3.
Truly one of the best football games ever made. The qualifiers scenario mode and the fact that you have both the qualifiers and the WC kits is so cool. I really miss the full WC games and not just the half-assed mods that dominate today.

EA even managed to replicate the annoying vuvuzuela sounds :D.

The WC 2014 version of the game was pretty solid as well.

There was a guy on the soccergaming forum who was trying to make a 24/25 season patch for it, not sure how he's doing now

2014 FIFA World Cup Brasil PS3 also good in it's own unique way...

I like different soccer games for their cons and pros.
