Sir Alex Ferguson

He still has the hunger for trophies and I don't know how we'll replace such a fine manager. Since he began coaching he always believed in possession and entertaining football which invented Man United for what they are known for today. Sir Alex is Manchester United in my opinion.

Ferguson's achievements at Manchester United:

Domestic competition

FA Charity/Community Shield: 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007

European competition

UEFA Champions League: 1998-1999
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup: 1990-91
Intercontinental Cup: 1999
UEFA Super Cup: 1991-92

From what I've seen, Ancelotti. He took charge of Milan when we were doing awful and were shit and won us the CL in 2003. He then got us to a final in 2005, and won it in 2007. He also won Serie A in 2005 with beautiful attacking football and bringing in Kaka that year. He may be a little stubborn but he usually ends up finding a solution to his problems.

How old are you Milanista? I have seen better Milan coaches in my lifetime and I am only 28. :)

20 soon! When I was a kid, I only managed to see the end of Capello's career. I barely remember Sacchi's, so I don't count them. Zaccheroni won us the Serie A but then he took Milan into a crisis.

Ah that would be why mate! I remember Milan under Capello, I used to watch them play on Channel 4's "Gazzetta Football Italia" and they were such a brilliant team.

THE PROF, YOU HAVE TO HAND IT TO HIM, ARSENAL ARE A TEAM RICH IN TRADITION AND WITH A LONG HISTORY, BUT WHAT HE HAS ACHEIVED IS IMMENSE, HE HAS TAKEN THE CLUB FORWARD AND INTO THE FUTURE, HE MADE A HUGE CLUB BIGGER, AND HIS EYE FOR TALENT IS SECOND TO NONE. IT REFLECTS IN THE RESULTS, THE ACHIEVEMENTS DURING HIS REIGN AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IN THE FOOTBALL.

i see your points, Ste. But even if u barely remember sacchi's milan, u still must know he was a milestone for the european football. his trainings methods and tactics have been studied by most of the coach in thw world, and we could easily consider him as the father of the modern european football.
Helenio Herrera was the only coach in history who had the same impact sacchi had on european football.

ancelotti is a great coach, among the 3, 4 greatest coaches in europe at the moment, imo....... but afterall he's a sacchi "alumnus". actually to have an idea about sacchi's greatness, u could also take a loot at his "apprentices"; rijkaard, donadoni, tassotti, ancelotti, del neri, van basten, gullit. look at where are they now (well, actually van basten, rijkaard and gullit weren't really good students, as they didn't learn a lot from him )....
or u could also consider all those coaches who admitted sacchi was their icon and inspiration; hiddink, benitez, camacho, they all said they studied sacchi's football to become coaches... and even if he won't ever admit it, i think capello too did it

mi picks for milan would be (in this order):
sacchi
liedholm
rocco
ancelotti\capello

talking about palermo, my pick is guidolin, of course :)

Capello's team that beat Barca 4-0 in the 1994 European Cup Final were one of the best ever. That performance from what I remember was sensational!

Wasn't Sacchi really the architect behind the great Milan though? I think Capello just took over and continued on with the work Sacchi begun.

sacchi changed football as we used to know it... fo ever. so, in some way, yes that milan still felt sacchi's influence.

but Capello made many drastic changes in milan's gameplay (it would take too much to deeply explain all those changes) and i think Fabio deserves most of the credit for what milan achieved with him on the bench.

anyway capello's milan was completely different from sacchi's milan, talkin about tactical approach. ;)

sacchi's milan was great, talking about spaces aggression and wide opened gameplay.

capello's milan instead became famous for zone pressing and short distance between the midfield and defence.

sorry for the little off topic

John Aldridge. Nothing to say except he brought more happiness to my club than I think we'll ever have again.

Arsene for me.

Many would say Chapman or Mee (As in Bertie, not Myself ;) ) even Graham.

But Wenger has made us the envy of many a team and won trophies along the way. Plus I am alive to see his Teams play unlike Chapman.

I saw Graham - although I liked the winning etc and the cups. The teams Wenger has produced are on another planet and so is our Football at times.

I just pray we start Winning things again.

Most influential managers ever:

Chapman (Arsenal)
The coach of the Hungarian Wunder Team
Helenio Herrera
Raymond Goethals
Arigo Sacchi
Arsene Wenger

but also: Johan Cruijff when he was a player...the Totaal Voetbal concept comes from Cruijff (not Michels)

Fatih Terim (Galatasaray SK) 1996 to 2000.

fatihterim2.jpg

We lived great moments with him. First, he let the play young and talented players like Emre Belozoglu, Okan Buruk, Umit Davala and Fatih Akyel in his first squad. And then, he managed old stars like Georghe Popescu, Georghe Hagi and Cladiou Taffarel very well. And then success came. Also he improved local players like Hakan Sukur, Tugay Kerimoglu and Arif Erdem. Then they went European clubs like Inter Milan and Blackburn Rovers. After his AC Milan and Fiorentina carrer, he returned back his home at 2003 but he couldnt get success like in his last Galatasaray career.

I might add Karl Heinz Feldkamp and Mircea Lucescu in this list. Also Mustafa Denizli.

Has to be Fergie really, on pure success.

Busby deserves mention as well obviously. (Though again obviously, I've only ever sit bits and bobs of his teams).

Ron Greenwood (rip)

Most have him and West Ham to thank for bringing a foreign style of football to England long before it's time.
He modelled West Ham on the great Hungary team at the time and created what we now as movement off the ball and runners, 1 touch passing and 3rd man running all before other teams did.
The way Hurst, Moore and Peters developed under him was a massive reason behind England's only World Cup win.

Also ex-manager of England and never even received a minutes silence/applause when he passed away recently.
Ken fucking Bigley did.

Disgraceful.
